When it comes to Anna Bergendahl’s fate at Eurovision 2010, there are two camps – those that empathise and those that laugh. For of course she has the rather ignominious honour of being the only Swedish act to not qualify for the final. In the years since, her name has almost become an adjective to describe insipid Melfest performers (hello Ellen Benediktson). It’s an unfortunate legacy, not helped by a slew of dreary follow-up singles such as “Live And Let Go” and “I Hate New York”. But the thing is, when expectations are low it’s much easier to surprise.
And boy does Anna surprise on her newest release “For You”, a collaboration with Norwegian dance duo Broiler. Amazingly, in just three minutes she blows apart the middle-of-the-road Anna, replacing her with an EDM diva. And not your run of the mill, party in da club, sort of girl. When was the last time you heard a David Guetta or Calvin Harris contributor sing of a “stupid vagary”? The genre may be different, but the Bergendahl DNA remains. Everything works – the electronic wizardry, the beat, the falsetto, the electric guitars… did I mention the falsetto? More please!

Broiler “For You” ft. Anna Bergendahl Lyrics
I’ll be the mountain
I’ll be the shore
I’ll be the river
All you’ll ask for
I’ll be your heartache
and your headache too
But there is nothing
I wouldn’t do
For you, for you, for you
I’ll be there any old day in any kind of weather
I’ll be the rush of blood
The things you feel at worst
A stupid vagary
Some kind of curse
And I will be your victory
Your very own reflection
But there is nothing
I wouldn’t do

Love. It.
This is a very well-written, creative dance song. Really good job by Broiler here, and Anna sounds great. Her ESC song and performance didn’t impress me, but she does have a nice voice and is clearly capable of good songwriting. Definitely looking forward to whatever she has next 🙂
here = hear 😮
I still here a sheep doing the vocals…
Though I loved her Eurovision entry, I never liked her voice.
I’ve adored Anna since her Idol participation. “This Is My Life” was lovely and so was “The Army”. And I like this one too! Her voice make it sound refreshing, and it’s nice to see a new musical side from her.
A dance track … the only thing that makes anyone relevant to the eyes of Eurovision fans … the only thing that makes any artist loose soul and identity … As far as Anna goes … I’ll say this: rather boring than selling her soul to the devil.
