While we still mourn Turkey’s prolonged Eurovision hiatus, at least we can take some solace from the new music which its past stars continue to release. In recent months we’ve heard songs from legends such as Hadise and maNga, and now it’s Can Bonomo’s turn. The 2012 contestant returns with “Tastamam (Alright)”, taken from his third studio album “Bulunmam Gerek”.

The “Love Me Back” singer is older and wiser. Speaking to Turkish media, he revealed that the new album is more mature and reflects the changes in his life. He says:
I worked hard on this album for two years. I felt stressed and excited writing my songs. Eight years ago I would never think that I could do these things and I never give up.
Elsewhere in the interview he states that “I unite East and West with my music”, something which is clear from “Tastamam”. The song details Can’s quest to reunite with a former lover “I want you back then everything will be alright”. And he wants her back rul, rul bad “I can’t breathe without you”. The video shows his many efforts to rekindle the romance. He hires an orchestra. He brings her to the Bosphorus Strait. He even paints her some wonderful pictures.
The painting isn’t just a mere plot device for the video. Can can paint and will stage an exhibition soon – “It took a year to draw these paintings”. Can Bonomo really is an artist in every sense of the word.
