This morning the D in Denmark seems to stand for DRAMA! Last night Anti Social Media won this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix national final with their entry “The Way You Are”. The result didn’t go down well with fan favourite and runner-up Anne Gadegaard. She’s fuming, y’all.
Tipped by our readers to win according in our poll, she has told Danish tabloid Ekstra Bladet that “The jury stinks to hell”. That’s because she finished second with the jury despite winning the televoting portion. Here’s how she feels about falling just six points shy of the winners.
“It is what it is. I’ve got a second place – and I shall be happy. It’s really nice. But it is confusing that Denmark voted for me. If Denmark had voted for them, and the jury had voted for me, it would be easier to accept.”
Well did the best song win?
“I cannot say. If I should go for the Danes, I am better. But again, I think it’s hard to say. I have gotten to know the boys from Anti Social Media and I think they are super cute. I feel really good with them. So I wish them well.”
DMGP: Our review and reaction
What do you think? Should Denmark have sent Anne Gadegaard to Vienna instead?
I truly think that the juries did not award her with more points because they knew that she would win the televoting so they wanted to make it impossible 4 her to be able surpassing the needed gap of points from the ASM that would earn her the victory in Dansk…Really pathetic…Too bad.. I like the song that won and will go to Vienna BUT i dislike these ones as they seem as obnoxious immature nerds.. Denmark HAS chances of qualifying to the final and surprisingly can end up doing really well on the final… I really expect them to… Read more »
Remember me on may
I predict ————-> THEY WILL BE IN THE FINAL!
Now nobody likes Anti social Media (ohhh they won’t quallify bla bla bla…. DRAMA)
But they were 2nd on the televote…
So… ok i prefer suitcase, but “The way you are” is not a bad song.
Can’t help but think ASM’s song is absolutely atrocious. If Israel were to send that, or Ireland, or Montenegro, it absolutely would not qualify. It wouldn’t even stand a chance…
However, it’s Denmark, so it’ll be fine annoyingly. Don’t think it will fare well in the final at all though. Maybe DR didn’t want to host again so soon so have purposely told the judges to vote for a lesser song.
Honestly, for me, Anne had to win. It was kinda shady that televoting was still open at the time the juries started to award points. Also, ASM had an excellent live performance, everyone should recognize that. They did it pretty well on stage. However, I seriously doubt that Denmark can make it to the finals with this song, correct me if I’m wrong but we’ve seen indie bands in Eurovision and none of them had done phenomenal (NONE!). If Anne went instead, she would give the Dutch a run for their money. Good luck to Denmark! This year they’ll really… Read more »
I bet DR feared another ESC danish win with Anne… Probably it will take at least 5 more ESC to get all the B&W Hallerne bills paid….She would be immediately at the top of my ESC15 top so far
Both are great songs (and better that “cliche love song”).
Hope Denmark does well this year!
She is actually reasonably generous with her comments. She didn’t storm off like Justin Hawkins
@ Jake I agree, it’s ridiculous that they show the votes of the juries first and letting the audience vote, cause I think Babou would have received so much more votes then… as he was first 7th and came 5th later on.. just simply ridiculous..
She was the best and really deserves to be in the ESC
anything else than Anti Social Media would be better, don’t understand jurors voted for this crappy song, but then again, all 10 songs were mediocre or just really bad. Suitcase had a big Joan Franka feeling over it, so would not have stand a chance in vienna as well. Denmark might not qualify this year, at least i hope not. It;s outdated.
At least she is honest…
It seems like “dated” is becoming the new buzzword to insult a song you don’t like. So what if it was written 10 years ago? It’s not like they’re making the song with a production kit from 10 years ago – and even then, I doubt that would be such a bad thing; it would probably sound retro. And moreover, do you stop listening to or refuse to listen to songs from 10 years ago just because that’s when they were made? I have to agree with the idea that the disjoint voting procedure leaves people with bad feelings like… Read more »
ASM should do everyone a huge favor, step down and take that highly out dated song with them.
Anne had the only Eurovison worthy song in the bunch.
I’m embarrassed for Denmark.
I really like suitcase. Anti social Media is OK.
I prefer Anne over ASM but I do think Anne was helped by trailing the boys with the juries throughout most of the scoring that would rally people to vote more for her. I don’t think it’s right for voting to be open after juries scores are revealed because it impacts voting. If I loved Mi Amore then I would never vote for it because I would be “throwing away my vote” on a song that would never win. I think the Juries will always be swayed more by “musicians” than by a singer. I think The Common Linnets would… Read more »
Sorry, but not sorry.
She is just another sore loser joining Rybak’s team.
She knew the RULES and she knew that winning the public votes did’t mean she would win the whole thing.
I was very sad about her last night…Really pity that she lost when the Danes people voted her 1st winner of the Dansk and the juries ruined their plans as they had different thinking sceptik about her song… What done its done and we can’t *undo* the outcome now.. Congratulations to dear Anne anyway… It was not ment to be 4 her as it seems.. Looks like the juries that voted dear Anne 2nd did not want Denmark to have serious chances of winning in Vienna and the Vision to return again back home to Danish soil after only just… Read more »
First, I could say that announce the jury results before the public voting was held is just stupid. DR biased the public decision, I believe that. If there has been a public voting held before the announcement of jury results, Anna would win by pure public decision at all. Show wasn’t Danish enough, it reminded me Swedish Melodifestivalen final at all. “Suitcase” is not a standart Danish entry that we see every year, it could be cool to send Anna but I also think that “The Way You Are” is a cool and enjoyable song. And at least, how ridiculous… Read more »
For the record, the producer of the winning song said in an interview after winning (for DR) that they had this song written (with the other producer) 10 YEARS AGO! So, if you happen to think that the song is outdated, you think right.
I can understand why the jury didn’t favour Anne. Her vocals weren’t strong in the verses and they’re carried by the backing track during the chorus. Having a sweet song cannot guarantee the top spot. Pity, though, I would have preferred it. I would have preferred Manjana overall.
Anne was, BY FAR, the better of the two. It’s a no-brainer really. She should’ve won.
Anti Social Media are okay. I think they should be replaced with Anne after all 🙂
Anti social medias song is average..will most likely not make the final. I understand Annes frustration.
How was Anti Social Media’s win unexpected? They were listed as the favourites to win by quite some margin on every betting website I saw. I liked Anne more than ASM, but I do think ASM will have a better chance of qualifying than Anne would’ve, it took me a couple listens before I actually liked Anne’s song.
I think they won’t qualify
Anti Social Media was 9th in my top 10 whilst Anne was 1st
When I was watching DMGP I was so shocked. Anne was the only chance of Denmark securing a decent placing. Anti social media may surprise but qualification for Denmark is highly unlikely as they’re in SF1
