Padraig: I’ve been converted! Armenia are bringing it. I’d predicted a hot mess, but surprisingly this really works. The staging is magnificent, if at times rather literal. There’s an apricot tree blowing in the wind, some Tinkara-esque visuals on the floor and lots and lots of purple. Of the six singers, Essai, Tamar and Inga were the stand-outs. Genealogy are ready to do some serious damage.
Armenia First Rehearsal Eurovision 2015
William: When you see this live you will feel the power. The six members of Genealogy were bringing it this morning on stage during their first rehearsal. Vocally they were on point. I felt like Mary-Jean was holding back, but that’s probably because the opera diva needs to rest her vocals. All my fears that they couldn’t blend have been erased, and the staging is just fabulous. They really work the LED floor with lots of overhead aerial shots. Eurovision fans will recognize a shot of the diaspora map from their promotional materials: At one point it appears on the floor.

Omg! I felt like the wind was going to blow me away! This is too powerful! Wow! I used to hate this song, but now I’m speechless.

BRAVO ARMENIA!!!
I adore this post! I adore this entry cause is so valuable!
Sorry. This is just a big hot mess to my ears. I really don’t like this song one bit, regardless how good the staging might be.
interesting
they didn’t sound bad
“Eurovision fans will recognize a shot of the diaspora map from their promotional materials: At one point it appears on the floor.”
What do you mean about this,? Please tell us more about that map! 🙂
Love everything about it, this is the year for Armenia. Very impressed, the song gAve me goosebumps and I don’t even understand it. It’s visually stunning and love the idea, perfect for thus years theme. Also, the performers are unique and talented artist from different countries with completely unique cultural backgrounds, its really amazing how they come together and make this beautiful performance shine.
I looooooved it, OMG I don’t know why but it really touched my heart
Oh yes Armenia. Now I am crying. I can’t wait. Just do it
I like the purple and the tree. I’m very interested to see how the song/staging progresses.
Staging is totally on point, I really like the shaking tree ….. But the song is pretty MEH, just a vocal workout NOTHING more
Reminds me of a better staging of their 2007 entry. Overall I think their staging is simple yet remarkable, just like their song. Surprising how six voices from different genres can come together to create the powerful song that is “Face The Shadow”. My 12 points for the first semi-finals goes to Armenia!
Purple colour, black capes plus a tree blowing ominously in the background. From these 40 seconds it looks pretty funereal and no, they don’t sound good at all together. Perhaps genocide is too heavy a theme for a song contest.
This will struggle to qualify, despite all the friends Armenia has in this semi.
Personally I really like Essai and Tamar since I heard their voice with their own songs, but until a min ago I was still wondering what this song will look like on stage and giving live performance. Now I can say that they really did a good job though there’s only a few seconds in the rehearsal video. I think this will qualify. BTW, I love the color of purple and that tree in the middle 😀 !!!
@Eugene ESC UK – Not really, those OGAE votes are not true indicators of how a country will perform. Just ask Charlotte Perrelli
I always thought that the Armenian entry this year is one of those songs that if delivered well live will do really really well and I’m not disappointed. I think this has the potential to finish in the top 3 with Italy and Sweden.
this is just amazing… I didn’t expect this but seems armenia will be in top 10 for sure
Okay when are you going to post Belgium? The clip is now up on the YT page.
I came here to hate on this, because the song is horrible BUT the staging is excellent and I’m pretty sure this will make it easily to the final. Also that diaspora map is a bonus.
This song don t deserve to go to final. But because we have 6 countries from ex soviet union in this semifinal, 5 of them wili gave high points to Armenia, plus France, Belgium and Greece.
On video screen we saw tree, like in armenia staging in 2007 and 2010
I know that it’s supposed to be a song contest and I should focus on the song, but seriously… That Tamar Kaprelian is the hottest girl I’ve seen in the ESC in a long time. 😛
The stage is soo disapointing. I was convinced that it would be more spectacular.
It’s decent but I want to see more of it!
Their vocals are SPECTACULAR and I like them coming together at the end but I don’t like the song at all.
I keep refreshing the Eurovisionyoutubepage. I’m excited.
But yeah, good performance.
I think they’ll make it for sure, they just seriously need to do something other than just stand in a line, because then that’ll be boring and no one would vote for them.
no final for Armenia
The visuals are well done, but the song is still dreadfull…
