Eurovision stars come and go, but Conchita Wurst is forever. The reigning queen of Eurovision has gone from strength to strength in the past year. She’s worked the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier, delivered a speech before the European Parliament, and even rubbed shoulders with Ban-ki Moon at the United Nations and Felicity Huffman at the Golden Globes. But at the end of the day Conchita is most definitely a singer. And today she reminds us of that with her fabulous debut album “Conchita”. It’s only been a few hours, but the album has already reached #1 in Austria, #8 in Finland, #12 in Switzerland and #24 in Belarus.
wiwiblogger William caught up with Conchita in her Vienna hotel suite on May 14 — the day before her album release. She says that the album is like her child. “It’s amazing and it’s my baby and I delivered it a year after winning the Eurovision Song Contest,” she says. “It’s beautiful.”
The many styles — swing, dance, and some diva balladry — reflect her desire to create an album of songs she wanted to sing, rather than following a formula. “I created it in a very selfish way, I have to admit,” she says. “I wanted to entertain myself in the first place. This is what I did. And that’s why it’s so colourful….I couldn’t make a decision whether to go in this direction or that one. I went everywhere.”
