On August 24 Ukrainians won’t just celebrate their country’s independence day. They’ll also applaud Dnipro, Kyiv or Odesa, as NTU has decided to reveal the Eurovision 2017 host city timed with this most important of days.

As Ukraine’s Channel 5 reports, Alexander Harebin, Deputy Director of the National Television Company of Ukraine, recently confirmed the date of the big reveal.

The NTU host city was originally slated to be revealed on July 27. But following a series of delays, we still don’t know where the competition will take place.

On Friday Dnipro’s mayor Boris Filatov made it clear he’s growing increasingly impatient for the announcement, which, in the event Dnipro won, would require him and fellow leaders to sort through mountains of contracts, paperwork and plans.

Writing on Facebook he said: “Dear members of the organizing committee of Eurovision 2017! Please, choose the winning city as soon as possible. Time is running out.”

Ukraine’s end-of-August announcement has taken longer than previous host city decisions.

Sweden’s SVT revealed that Stockholm would host Eurovision 2016 on July 8, while Austria’s ORF revealed Vienna had won the Eurovision 2015 gig on August 6.

But Denmark’s DR waited until September 2 to reveal Copenhagen as the Eurovision 2014 host city, suggesting criticism of Ukraine’s NTU isn’t necessarily warranted. Big decisions take time — particularly if there isn’t a clear winner.

As the clock winds down, which host city finalist are you supporting? And who do you think will get it? Let us know in the comment section below.

You know…recently i have started Loving kievs proposal to host in IEC. I will love it in Odessa to. Both have big arenas where you can make a quality show.

@Thiefo They could choose Dusseldorf in April and still have a quality event. The same is not applicable to Ukraine.

I’m hoping for Odessa, Eurovision by the beach , 2 friends from Odessa and something new as Kiev already hosted Eurovision and Junior Eurovision.

But I think it will be Kiev in the Exhibition Centre. 1000 extra seats to add to revenue don’t need to build a roof and better connected in terms of flights and infrastructure.

So hoping Odessa, predicting Kiev, anything as long as it’s not Dnipro I’ll be happy with.

I feel like if they went with Kyiv, then it wouldve been announced a while ago. The fact that its taking so long suggests its equally matched and the host might be Odessa or Dnipro

It will most likely be Kiev and all these bids will be for nothing. I still hope it’s Odessa though 🙂 Even Dnipro would be better than Kiev.

It will be interesting to see what city will be chosen. Hoping for Kyiv but wouldn’t mind Odesa either. Just please don’t pick Dnipro.
I would almost put money on Kyiv being chosen. Infrastructurally and culturally it’s the best option and it’s the capital and biggest city. But we will wait and see.

They will choose Odessa if renovation of an old venue or construction of a new one is required. The second option is almost impossible. Kiev and Dniepropetrovsk cannot afford (re)construction in winter period which usually starts in the first decade of November (in 9-10 weeks). Whereas the winter in Odessa is shorter – 3 months and is milder (absolute minimum temperature being -27C in Odessa, -33C in Kiev and -30C in Dnipro).
