They said they’d never return to Moldova‘s national selection O melodie pentru Europa, but here they are again. Sunstroke Project, the 2010 Eurovision act that propelled Epic Sax Guy to internet meme status, are back in the game with “Hey Mamma”. But is it anything worth writing to mum about?
The song, an upbeat dance track with reggaeton influences, is bound to wake up the audience at the national final on 25 February. By all indicators, Sunstroke Project is very likely to reach it, given the competition so far. The trio, composed of violinist and songwriter Anton Ragoza, singer Sergey Ialovitsky and Epic Sax Guy Sergey Stepanov, is one of just 11 acts to have submitted songs to O melodie pentru Europa 2017. Tomorrow, 18 January, is the deadline for submissions, and, in true Moldovan tradition, that’s when most of the artists send in their songs.
Mihai Traistariu has also announced his intention to send a song to Moldova, but unless it is a duet, the regulation does not allow him to enter the track. There are rumours, however, that the singer will enter a duet with the 2007 Eurovision representative Natalia Barbu.
If more than enough songs are entered, a semi-final will be organised on February 24, but not before the live auditions, which will be broadcast live on January 21.
Two years ago, Sunstroke Project finished third with “Day After Day”, behind Eduard Romanyuta and Valeria Pasa in the national final, despite being the fan favourites to win. Will they be luckier this year?
Until then, what do you think about Sunstroke Project’s bid for Eurovision 2017? And do you like “Hey Mamma” more than Boris Covali’s “Calator”?
This is semi final melfest standard! Good job!
it actually slays 😮 wtf
If Moldova will send this, will be the act most expected. I just hope that Moldova will not fall into MIHAI’s trap, nobody wants to see him, and he will not match the success of Tornero, so Moldova don’t feed his desperation.
Send Sunstroke Project !!!!!
It’s very good indeed and could do well across Europe.
It’s enjoyable, but countries need to stop this stupid no-singing-in-chorus thing! It never works, get over it.
The best choice, Moldova, send this !
modern , refresh and diferent, welcome MONDOVA
This song is amazing! A lil repetitive but i just can’t stop listening to it!
WOW! Didn’t expect anything similar from Moldova this year. The question is will they pick this??
Whoo!! A song from Moldova that’s actually credible and 2017 sounding? I’m into it! Can’t wait to see epic sax guy back in action 😉 This could hopefully bring them back to the final
this song is brilliant! i love everything about it.
Even better than their 2010 song. This would be so much fun, and it has a great, breathable structure for a great staging.
This needs to win. Moldova needs to make up for their mistake last year for sending Lidia instead of Doinita by sending this. If Moldova sends this, it may guarantee them a qualification again to the final.
this is GREAT!! 2017 is looking like a strong year…i LOVE the drop in this song
Like a Premier League transfer window in January, most of the action comes on the final day Chance and it gets very frantic.
This sounds good! Sounds like a ‘definite qualifier’ 🙂
OMG, OMG!! I LOVE THIS TRACK. Don’t fuck up Moldova, this needs to be the song you send:)
11? That’s it?
With this song Moldova could go to Final after being eliminated three times in a row. Moldova be smart!
Chance to make Moldova relevant.
Moldova, please pick this. It’s the most contemporary song so far and it’s radio friendly. Plus, you’ll actually be in the final this time
Now make sure they win the NF, this could get Moldova to the top 5!
Considering the fact that we speak about Moldova, which doesn’t have such quality at its NF this song is good! This can easily qualify with a good staging. And it will be a summer hit! Good job!!
Great beat! please save Moldova from a disaster lol
The song is quite good, and if is makes ESC it will probably get a huge amount of televoting points if the commentators point out the fact that the epic sax guy is there.
This song could WIN Eurovision, but it’s for Moldova and Moldova can’t win Eurovision (way too expensive) son that’s a problem. %aybe they shoud have sent this song to Romania, or another country that is able to organize the contest.
Or maybe they’ll win but Moldova won’t take te responsability to organize, like Israel made in 1980 after winnig Eurovision 1979…
YASS
WOW! It’s brilliant!
Please Moldova, just send this and you’ll reach the top 10 (at least)!
Actually the song is pretty good for Moldovan standards
These guys deserve to win ESC!!!
I think the swedes would like this
YASS EPIC SAX GUY IS BACK !!
