Their national selection is still due to last for another two weeks. But thanks to a leak on Spotify, we now know that Muireann McDonnell will represent Ireland at Junior Eurovision 2017 with her song “Súile Glasa” (Green Eyes).
Muireann McDonnell — “Súile Glasa”
With broadcaster TG4’s insistence on using the song in virtually all their promotional ads, it’s been the worst kept secret of the 2017 Junior Eurovision season. However, nothing has been official until now.
Earlier today, the track listing for this year’s contest appeared on Spotify. Currently, it’s only possible to stream a selection of the entries. Nonetheless, Muireann’s “Súile Glasa” is clearly visible.
Muireann is the last act to be confirmed for Junior Eurovision 2017. She’ll join the other 15 acts on stage in Tblisi for the final on 26 November.
Leaks to streaming sites are nothing new in the Eurovision world. In 2016, the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix line-up was revealed several weeks early on Spotify. And this year, Nathan Trent’s “Running On Air” appeared hours before its scheduled release.
However, this is the first time it has happened with the Junior contest.
Should you wish to continue watching Ireland’s pre-recorded selection, the fourth semi-final is due to be shown this Sunday at 20:00 on TG4. The final will be broadcast on 19 November.
What do you think? Can Muireann McDonnell be take the Emerald Isle back into the Junior Eurovision top ten? Could she get Ireland it’s first victory? Let us know in the comments below.
It’s a lovely song, very nicely sung. However, as someone who speaks Irish I have to say that her pronunciation of the language is appalling for most of the song. I know those who are voting will not be aware of this but it is really annoying that it is so bad. Hopefully this can be rectified in time and wishing her the best of luck!
Predictable.
Yay! This song was my favorite!
I guess a lot of people won’t be following all that closely – most are casual viewers I would imagine, especially the target audience : children.
millennial whoop is strong in this one 😛
It was leaked beforehand as well in comments online, I feel like everyone knew too! Yeah I do think the decision my hurt Ireland’s chances because most of the people voting are the fans who know the songs already, but maybe since it’s fresh in their minds it could be an advantage?
Why is no one talking about the studio version of the songs we had only heard live? Youtuber sounds so good, I see they did a little revamp.
TG4 are finally getting the hang of the singer/song part but just seem to have pushed things too far by leaving the reveal so late. I like this a lot
I can’t believe my eyes. So shocking.
Best Irish entry since Lipstick in either contest.
Whaaaaaaaaat?
Even though we know a little earlier than expected, I think the fact that this was released so late will still hurt it’s chances. It won’t have enough time to grow on people so it might not get many votes in the first round of voting.
what the hell why wont the songs load
Since the episodes for Ireland’s selection were filmed a few months ago, I’m hoping the winner has filmed a music video for the final version of her entry shortly after the final episode was filmed. Let’s find out!!! 🙂
You’re always optimistic, aren’t you?
why are none of these eurovision things available in the us? last year’s final and semi finals wouldnt be streamed off of youtube for us and now the spotify songs aren’t available in the us? i’m sorry but if the us broadcasts the show, regardless of how many people watch it we should be able to have access to it…
I think you have it the wrong way round. It is because the US rights have been sold that the videos are locked. Logo don’t splash out just to have then viewable on YouTube. I agree it is ridiculous and does more harm than good in drumming up interest, but that’s how the market works.
The EBU should never have made this deal.
Ah, okay. I guess I put 2 + 2 together and made 7.
How come it only became a “thing” last year, though?
Music clearances from record labels and whatnot became a clear issue upon the show being televised stateside, which is beyond Logo’s control.
This seems to be the case of other non-European countries as I heard this was the case for Brazil and Canada as well.
Serves the Irish right, why keep it a secret for SO LONG. Great winner, I like it and with a revamp this could score Ireland another top 10 finish.
I say this is winning material. It gives nicole and tom dice vibes.
I agree, I have a feeling this will win.
rip
You’re not saying that to Junior Eurovision, aren’t you? You should NEVER wish Junior Eurovision dead.
