Ermal Meta Fabrizio Moro Eurovision 2018 Italy Sanremo

National final season is almost at an end. But before things wrap up over the next couple of days, we can reveal that Italy’s Ermal Meta & Farbizio Moro are still your favourite Eurovision 2018 act so far.

After counting 29,006 votes, the “Non mi avete fatto niente” duo emerged as poll toppers for the fourth consecutive time. The pair garnered an impressive 2,230 votes.

ITALY: ERMAL META & FABRIZIO MORO “NON MI AVETE FATTO NIENTE”

However, for much of the voting period it looked like the Sanremo winners were on the verge of being dethroned. For coming in a very close second is Portugal’s Cláudia Pascoal with “O Jardim”. Attracting a total of 2,083 votes, the Iberian songstress actually led the poll for much of Wednesday and Thursday.

PORTUGAL: CLÁUDIA PASCOAL “O JARDIM”

Ukraine’s Mélovin rounds out the top three. A tally of 1,953 votes was enough to see the “Under The Ladder” singer climb up from fourth place in the previous poll.

UKRAINE: MÉLOVIN “UNDER THE LADDER”

After several weeks in either the top or second spot, Spain’s Alfred & Amaia tumble down to fourth. “Tu canción” weaved its spell over 1,819 voters.

The top five is completed by yet another newcomer, Finland’s Saara Aalto. She picked up 1,742 votes for “Monsters”.

FINLAND: SAARA AALTO “MONSTERS”

Entries from Belgium, France, Estonia, Greece and Cyprus make up the rest of the top ten. Poland and the Czech Republic occupy the 11th and 12th positions. No other acts passed the 1,000 vote threshold.

At the other end of the rankings, we find Montenegro yet again. The Balkan nation could only manage a measly 95 votes. Iceland did marginally better, picking up 109 votes.

Italys song doesn’t quite get to me. I like it, but the tempo is so fast, it’s easy to miss most of the song. Kind of an “in from one ear, out the other” type of song. I’ll have to listen to it few more times, perhaps it’ll start growing on me.

So far I’ve only heard about one third of all the songs in this years ESC, but there are few songs that I keep getting back to: the songs of Belgium, France, Greece and Estonia. Can’t say I have a clear favorite yet.

Italy’s song is the worst song released so far. Boring, repetitive music, yelling, rather than singing, and cheesy lyrics. They were smart to keep the song in Italian or we would hear lyrics that would make Iceland blush. So, so bad.

I’m from Poland, I apologize for bad English) I like the song of Italy, there is no commerce, and the song sounds beautiful. But I do not like the song of Portugal (sorry), the second place should be in Estonia or France. If Ukraine takes the third place, I can agree, his song is weak (I can forgive him, the guy does not have a producer and money for quality), but he has charisma and character, many participants do not have this. Or I did not see it. Spain. Sorry, I do not have emotions from this song. I do… Read more »

Trust me, Italians don’t even care about ESC, they probably don’t even know Non mi avete fatto niente is going to represent Italy, they only know that it won Sanremo and that’s it for them. Italy is too overrated every year and I don’t really understand why. So no, the poll is not rigged by Italians, only by tasteless people.

Firstly, neither you nor me know if the poll is rigged and even by whom and which nationalities. Question and exclamation marks in my comment show that I was not sure.
Secondly, if all italians do not care about Eurovision then they would not participate in the contest at all.
It is obvious there are italians who are interested in the contest in different levels. So generalisation does not bring accuracy.

Last year I didn’t understand the hype over Italy and now… is the same. Average song with chorus-autoplagiarism. But okay. Let it be high. But 1st place in poll is too much. What makes me really suprised are very high places for Spain, Portugal and Finland. These songs are horrible. What I saw during performance Saary Aalto was the worst kind of kitschy and overloaded performance. I feel sorry for Serbia, Switzerland and Hungary (my personal number one this year and dont’ think it’ll change) they’re so low. Serbia maybe doesn’t deserve top 10, but definitely not bottom 10. they’re… Read more »

Well, I for once don´t mind if the song in one way or another has already been “released”. It is the common way of how the music industry works, that you do samples and then pick them up again, make them better, and then release them. And I think just because it is a little bit unfortunate that this sample has already been “released” once, doesn´t mean you can´t work on it and “re”release it. Plus to me it is not plagiarism if it is your own work, which in this case it is. Same with Belarus. Yes, it is… Read more »

Ok . If you say that, you haven’t heard the song accurately. Because this is only the chorus which is the same ( in terms of vocals I precisely) the music isn’t the same . And why I assume this is an edit one is why the song which was presented at Sanremo ( for the new proposal and not big ) it has been eliminated and never commercialised. No this is considered a new one there won’t be any inspections like you say.

The big question is which one platiated which one. From what I see the one posted by you is posted on February 2018, most probably long after SanRemo submissions. I guess your post is a little cover of the song from Eurovision, so don’t try to provoke without any reason.

guadalupe
guadalupe

Is no cover, Meta-Moro accepted very calm and serene that they took the chorus from other song of theirs, just because they did not wanted to be lost. If you think is a cover, that shows the level of plagiarism. In fact they admitted everything and they say very calm that they wanted to recuperate/recycle their old song. Unbelievable!!!! WOW!!!

Roxy
Roxy

As far as I understand, this other song in the question was submitted to newcomers section of Sanremo but got rejected. It was never commercially released but uploaded on Youtube after this year’s Sanremo. It could be performed on other occasions though, I’m not sure.
So, I believe both songs have same songwriters and they decided to “recycle” the song. I don’t know if that’s allowed, the committee will probably inspect this.

I would still prefer to watch a contest where music wins, not commercial messages. Especially that I find it a little discriminating that Romania wasn’t allowed to participate with a global message, much more less commercial than others and more imaginative. Coming back to Italy, wow, you sing about being against terrorism, absolutely genious. It’s commercial, it’s generic, it’s banal, all the planet is against it, we don’t need a song to find out that. Ok, Italy deserves to win, they were robbed in 2015, they have the best music in the world, but it would be a little ironically… Read more »

Well, I agree that it is not the best Italian song ever nor of this century. And yes, it should be about the music. We had plenty of songs with political messages, that didn’t win because they were not good songs. But if one good song also has a valid message, then my interest grows. After all, I don’t think that talking about terrorism is banal. It may be heavy, but certainly not banal… For example, as much as I love the Spanish song, the theme is much more banal: teenage love… On Romania, I am not sure what you… Read more »

I had a look at last years wiwi poll in April. And actually the overall placings reflected overall the final scoreboard. There are even some high placed matches such as 2nd place for Bulgaria and 4th for Belgium. But also the 3rd for Portugal was close. Of course there are some outlayers such as Italy that won the 1st in the poll (but I guess that was in all the polls), 6th for Spain (yes, really!) or 10th for Macedonia, which did not qualify. http://wiwibloggs.com/2017/04/03/poll-who-is-your-favourite-to-win-eurovision-2017/183786/ I am (pleasantly) surprised with the high placing of Portugal, tbh, and based on the… Read more »

When the 3rd place was put in the bottom of the table, let me doubt about it’s potential. Of course there are songs that will fit, I still consider these polls reflecting nothing. And I guess that last year the poll was maybe closer than never. I mean I don’t remember wiwibloggs polls putting Austria and Netherlands in 2014 near the first places, or Ukraine in 2016. Ok, 2015 the winner was obvious a top placing one, it would have been ridiculous to have to big differences there.

🙂 Yes, indeed. Moldava was completely sidelined in this poll. But, from what I recall the whole hype after Moldava started in the reharsals but really picked up after the SF (me included, I must confess).

I have a feeling this year is going to be different. I think it’s more equal across the board and there are no clear favorites, so early polls like this might be less indicative of the end result. I personally think the Top 5 especially will be very different to this. I could be completely wrong, we’ll see come May. This is just a gut feeling I have.

I agree with you that it is too early and from what we know there seems not to be a clear winner, which makes this phase more interesting. Being Portuguese, loving Italy and also Isaura and Claudia I wouldn’t mind at all if the outcome would be this one, though 🙂

Is obvious that everyone has a personal taste, but when we go to found a really songs inside eurovision, I think that, the songs that they gonna do it very well are,(random order) Hungary, Spain,France , Greece, Australia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Chech Republic, Estonia…and Defo no my favorities as I found Hungary and Estonia totally…..dont gonna say it

I don’t agree at all. Hungary: I don’t they’ll reach the final, for the simple purpose that the vocalist is too weak. That song is not able to win even the metal rock fans, cause it is not a quaility one. This time I doubt that the different choice was a good one for Hungary. Spain: they could finish higher than usual, for their vocals and atmosphere, but top 15 is still a brave objective. Greece: in my opinion it is overrated, I don’t think they will win the audience that much, a mid table is the maximum I expect… Read more »

And who is going to win in your opinion?

Something I like about this year is the lack of a clear frontrunner. When you watch YT Tops you see that it’s anyone game and I think that’s great.

At first, as songs were being revealed I felt a bit pessimistic about this year, but now I can say that we are getting a great year in terms of diversity and quality.

I am very impressed by the French Music Video – it speaks to me on many levels and different layers.
For political reasons I would grant Greece to win – after surviving their financial crises so far – it would be great to have Eurovision 2019 in Athens.
This year is very gripping – you can’t quite make out who is going to win.

What makes you think they survived? Have you noticed all the disqualifications from this year’s national final? Obviously they are the unfortunate that did not survive. lol
Seriously speaking, I would like Greece to win because they were hit the worst by the refugees, and a Grecian win will be a slap on the face for the rich countries that give us lessons about tolerance.

The first half of my comment was a joke, and of course Greece will survive, just don’t eat those leanders you have everywhere, remember ”Leander Kills” from A Dal.
Still a joke. My country is not more rich than Greece.

These are the worst possible reasons to support a country in Eurovision.
I love Greek entry this year, it’s among my favorites. I’d like to see them win but not for those reasons.

The mistake would be to talk about terrorism (Italy) and refugees (France). This is the narrative the terrorists want us to have. Don’t accept the narrative they want to impose to us.

So would you suggest to go like hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil about the issues like refugee crisis, terrorism or war? So you don’t want to be disturbed about these but you think you get away with it and clear your conscious by granting a victory to a country that gets all the burden? Go ahead!

Greece has a good song this year (easily their best since 2013) but if they won, it should be because people like the song and not because they don’t like refugees.

Honestly what is with all the racism that some fans are expressing here.

Exactly!

Some people call it as a surprise when something qualifies, they placed at the end of their poll (Montenegro 15, Georgia 16 just to mention two).
But they just failed to please the fan section, not the majority, who just listened to the songs the first time at the semifinals. Not the fanwank wins the ESC, the ones, who can make a sudden impact will win, and thats what makes this year special.

It‘s just a freakin‘ pre poll that doesn‘t mean anything.

It‘s just funny to see, how much expectation all the top 5 countries from this poll have and then they fall in the actual contest.

Since the 50/50 vote has been introduced, these polls are even more pointless than before, no one can smell, what juries actually like (they can honor beautiful songs but also be their nightmare, hello Norma John)

This is so funny. Actually, if many are accusing Azerbaijan of buying 2011 victory, I wonder why nobody did it again. Germany fooled the world with Volkswagen, but they cant buy some lousy televotes to escape last place at least? BTW I think Azerbaijan won fair and square, and we will have the same type of winner this year (Spain?). 2018 is full of equal songs, and if you are waiting for Julia Samoylova to save ESC, well……..

The fact that you adore France’s song, doesn’t mean others have head issues. I do believe that what I’ve said in my comments was coherent, I just don’t like France’s song. Is that a mental illness?

Coherent lol not !! The fact that you love unconditionally Spain song doesn’t mean that all the others are bad at the point to write negative comments just to be free unrespecful and to try to down the artists talking about details. It’s so childish….and yes head troubles because to have a such behavior something is not normal….

I hate the spain and estonian songs and so what, I don’t go to criticize them just for the pleasure. What is your goal in doing that ? What do you want to prove ? You want to show that your favourite are better, sorry it doesn’t work.

1. I like Spain’s song. It’s not unconditionally. If they do something bad, I may stop liking them.
2. What behavior do I have? Am I not allowed to say that I don’t like France’s song? Is that a symptom that my brain is not well?

I fear for Sara. She has the best up-tempo song but her vocals ruin it.

Belarus is one of the worst entries this year, what do people see in it?

Everyone is hyping Czech republic (and Spain) too much, just like it happened with Italy last year.

Melovin has an amazing staging and he’s a potential winner…not sure how it’s gonna work in the new stage, but everything about him gives me winner vibes.

Entries i dont see in the final: Armenia, albania, switzerland, romania, montenegro, croatia and latvia

Everyone is sleeping on Denmark and Hungary.

I think Belarus willl be surprise of the year. My prediction that Belarus 2018 will be similar like Poland 2016, Austria 2016 , Croatia many votes from televote and in bottom 5 with juries.
My prediction dark horses for win Germany.
My prediction flop for some favorites on betting odds for Spain, Finland,Czech Republic, Estonia, especially for Spain and Finland.
