Eurovision 2018 Benelux Acts Sennek Waylon

It’s the three country strong politico-economic union located in western Europe. And all three were among the seven nations that debuted at the very first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. We are talking about the Benelux countries.

Sadly, Luxembourg withdrew from Eurovision in 1993, but Belgium and the Netherlands are still with us, for the 60th and 59th time respectively.

Both countries have experienced a lot of ups and downs in their Eurovision history. But with qualification records of 62.5% (Belgium) and 50% (The Netherlands) since 2010, this decade is going well for both so far.

While not all of their entries were successful, several songs became evergreen Eurovision classics.

We suspect that — despite their history of friendship — a bit of brotherly rivalry is spurring the countries on. Which is your favourite Benelux entry at Eurovision 2018?

Belgium: Sennek “A Matter of Time”

Belgium’s contender Sennek was chosen internally by Flemish broadcaster VRT. She’s tasked with continuing Belgium’s extremely successful streak of top ten results since 2015.

She competes in “the semi final of death” on May 8th. Will she be able to survive this and give Belgium another great result with her James Bond-esque song “A Matter Of Time“?

The Netherlands: Waylon “Outlaw In ‘Em”

Waylon is one of two returning artists at Eurovision 2018. He previously brought the Netherlands to the top three back in 2014. Together with Ilse Delange as The Common Linnets, he breezed to second place with “Calm After The Storm“.

In the past two years, the Netherlands fell just outside the top ten. Waylon sings in the second semi final on Thursday, May 10th. Can he bring The Netherlands back into the top ten with his country rock song “Outlaw In ‘Em“?

Let the battle of the Low Lands begin!

Will they let Waylon ride his iron horse (i.e., his motorcycle) on to the stage? >:-P

The Netherlands for sure. Waylon will slay his live performance and act because he don’t need a big led screen to make an impact. They will be top 5 for sure in the final!! One of the best voices this year!

It’s easily Belgium, my number 3 overall. I hope she can bring it live, but as we saw last year with Blanche, it doesn’t have to be super strong vocally or have a crazy performance, when the song is a masterpiece. Will she win? Of course not, but that’s allright. And we really need Luxembourg to come back. Them and Slovakia, I miss these 2 (the others not so much).

I love What we and Belgium are doing; we send quality acts and get good results. You almost cant compare these countries Before 2010 and After 2010. Belgium had so many bad songs; 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and The Netherlands had 2006 and 2009. We really Where bad but we picked ourselves up. Waylon and SENNEK are both 10/10 for me.

Another ridiculous poll. Was looking forward to this one!

Anyhow. Two of the most interesting Eurovision countries in recent years. There must be something in the water in the lower countries.
It’s only a matter of time before any of these countries take home the (long overdue) win. Probably won’t be this year, but very soon.

My vote’s for Belgium by the way. Based on studio cut. Wouldn’t be surprised if I switch to the Netherlands after the semis.

Belgium’s studio version is good but she can’t sing well live.
I chose the Netherlands.

Two songs that are cute but that completely lack charm. I like the Netherlands’ song more, wouldn’t care if the other stayed in its semi.
