Ireland, Ryan O’Shaughnessy, 1

Ireland has struggled to make the final in recent years. And this year it’s up to Ryan O’Shaughnessy to see if he can bring the nation back on track with his song “Together”.

Similar to recent years, Ireland is sending a male artist to Lisbon. The song is written by Mark Caplice, Laura Elizabeth Hughes as well as Ryan himself.

Lyrically, “Together” is about a relationship that unfortunately didn’t work out. This is despite the couple telling each other that they’d be together forever: “I thought we’d be together ’til we die”. During the video, a same-sex couple can be seen walking and dancing around the busy streets during Christmas season.

The song is a slower approach, just like last year’s “Dying To Try” by Brendan Murray.

You can find the full Together lyrics below, along with the music video and our reaction:

Together lyrics — Ryan O’Shaughnessy

We were drifting like two icebergs out on the ocean
I was doing all I could to keep you close
There were troubles in the water
You swore it was nothing
You said that we would always stay afloat

Why would true love, look me in the eye and lie, lie?

I thought we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why
I thought we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why

Why have you been coming home so late in the evening?
Is there someone else that I should know about?
‘Cause there’s a smile on your face that I haven’t seen
Since we started going out

How could true love, look me in the eye and lie, lie?

I thought we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why
I thought we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why
I’ll forever wonder why

We said “Until death do us part”
And then you chose to break my heart
Remember right back to the start
When we said we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why
I thought we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why

You said we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why
I thought we’d be together ’til we die
I’ll forever wonder why
I’ll forever wonder why

The more I listen to this understated song the more I love it, and Ryan is a charismatic and confident performer. I hope they keep the staging quite intimate, not too much dancing around, and with a little Irish luck we’ll see Ryan again on Saturday

Can’t wait for the rehearsals, it could show if we are NQ or if we have a fighting chance to get through to the final. Hopefully the latter 🙂

One of the most underrated songs this year (But hey, it’s Ireland, what’s new?) It’s also one of the most standout songs for me, hopefully that will help it. And lyrically, we have one of the deepest songs in the contest this year. Nothing as shallow and childish as ” We Got the fire”, “love is like fire”, “So hot it burns” and certainly no ridiculous “Luna Moon Me Up”. The fact that these shallow lyrics come from songs in the Top 10, while Ireland is a true the very bottom of the table around 30th place just goes to… Read more »

If Russia is not banning this, can they do it for real! Cannot stand this guy spreading more lies. Good that NQ is guaranteed.
