Really looking forward to this semi. Several good songs. I’m really curious to watch Gabriela and Seemone.
I think Seemone, Emmanuel Moire, Ugo and Gabriela will qualify.
Seemone is actually my favourite of all the 18 contestants. Hope she slays the live perofrmance. My winner of Destination Eurovision. Watching how popular Bilal is among the fans and at the semi, Seemone is the only one I can see winning instead of him. It’s between those two.

It was nice to watch the First Semi Final Destination Eurovision. Second Final gonna be nice and exciting too. My favourite is Ugo. I think he has chance to win. I’m sure other countries will give points too for him and he will win for the Final. I watched to First Semi Final and I’m sorry but Bilal Hassani didn’t sing powerful especially cours part like his studio version. Should be more good. But other artists were great. I’m so sorry for Florida. Also Là – Hout ( I forgot her name) made me suprised. She sang it better than… Read more »

1. Gabriella – This song is brilliant, original, well-constructed and she’ll pull off a great live performance, so I think this could actually be a surprise contender for the win. 2. Seemone – A perfect example of how simplicity can work better than all the factory-produced pop songs they’re throwing into ESC. A really nice song, and she has a great voice. 3. PhilipElise – The vocal parts are a bit flat, but it sounds very pleasant on the whole, a bit of a Zaz vibe to it. Really like the instrumental sections, and can see this doing quite well… Read more »

Agreed with many of your thoughts.

Not a huge fan of the singing parts of Philipelise’s song but the instrumental bit is awesome.

I have no knowledge of Emmanuel ‘s music career but the lyrics for “la promesse” are just so dull and the melody itself isn’t anything to rave about either.

I also find it kind of interesting that Gabriella’s song is basically all about going against social media/internet fame – almost like the polar opposite of Bilal’s song/what he more or less represents in a sense.

I think Emmanuel can qualify because he has his fanbase, I think one of the three women (Seemone, Tracy, Gabriella) will not go the final). I think Ugo has his chances too with the teens. The others except a surprise à la Sylvàn won’t qualify. It’ll depend on the staging and live. I really hope the mixing will be better. My faves are Seemone, Gabriella, Tracy and Ugo.

If Saturday winner has almost all the jury’s points, and a landslide or nearly from televote, Bilal can be defeated (and to be honest, It will be a guilty pleasure for me when I saw the not so good quality of the song, the live performance and some of its childish reactions in its Youtube videos…) The key is Chimene Badi’s fans + those of the second one on Saturday evening Because finally there were not too many televote points between Bilal and Chimene (especially when you know the “fans” of Bilal, which have spent a lot of money for… Read more »

I like Seemone’s song musically, but the lyrics are a bit basic so I don’t really feel touched when listening. I think it’s cooler for someone who doesn’t know french.

Let no one stone me but I honestly think that Seemone will not go to the final (unless the whole jury gives her best points). I understand that this song is dreaming when you don’t understand the language, it’s “typically French” and romantic, but as for the French (in any case I speak for myself), I think it’s on the one hand, boring and depressive to die on the other hand, “barely” copied on Louane. And I believe that French votes will also go in this direction, they will prefer to vote for a fast tempo song.

JohnMcFlame

For me, Louane’s songs are faster tempo songs than this one. An example please ?
Seemone’s voice is also different. Adèle like natural voice.

But the terrible question is always:
do we vote for a song that could win ?
or do we vote for a song that we love ?

Response: French people like this kind of song.
They didn’t vote a lot for Lisandro last year (winner potential) and and preferred Malo, Igit and MM.

example: it looks like a variant of Louane’s “Si t’étais là”, same theme, words that come together, barely different music, and even to debit the text, except on the verses. This is absolutely not a plagiarism but it is still done to look like a lot. The song of Seemone, it’s going to be the moment “we cry in the thatched cottages” and hollow of the evening, I already see the staging with the piano and black and white images. Our best success in recent years was Amir, I doubt very much that voters choose a title that has the… Read more »

Gabriellas song is easily the best for me, although gut tells me it’s more of a playlist song than something that will work as a live performance for Eurovision. Hope to be proven wrong so,only other song I really like is Philipelise but think this semi is pretty open tbh.

I fear for Gabriella, because full English chorus songs face trouble in French televote. More traditionally French entries are more preferred by the public it seems like. Roi is an exception since it’s one line french, one line English and his internet fame overall.

I voted for Seemone, Gabriella, Tracy, Ugo. I love Seemone’s song, its so special and ambient, but I fear she might have the end of Claudia Pascoal. Gabriella’s song is catchy and great, but I feel it’ll be hard to stage and perform a song like that. Tracy and Ugo – don’t really care about them that much. As far as predictions go I think my faves are going through, maybe Emmanuel will pull of a Silvan and have an amazing and effective staging and he qualifies instead of Ugo, maybe Seemone if people don’t get the appeal, but I… Read more »

Seemone (very special/unique/classy/sultry chanson), Doutson (African realness), Philipelise (catchy chorus) and Gabriella (worry about this live, though).

I don’t speak French and I haven’t found a proper translation to the lyrics, but am I right to say it’s not a sad song as Michael’s? Anyway, it sounds so cozy. I hope she can transmit the same feelings when performing it live.

Hi Sabrina, I can speak a bit French and the sentences I understand are pretty sad, Stuff about being last time she was in his arms, him still being her first man..etc. I think this is also a song for the dad who passed away or more likely left. Feels very personal, I dare to say more personal than Michael, because this is sadness rather than anger.

Étoile

It’s not a sad song at all and her father is very fine. There’s a “mélancolie” in it but that’s it. She just thanks her father for being there for her, for supporting her. It’s an hommage to her daddy that she really loves. Je suis fran (I’m French )

I used Google Translator (which sometimes is not that accurate) and I had the same understanding as you, @Étoile. I think the “last time in his arms” is not a sad memory, but a sweet one, @NickC. Like she was singing about the good times they have together, not as a past thing. For me it seems like a “thank you for always being by my side” song, which would make it the opposite from Michael’s.

Seemone is the one I’m most excited about, so I voted for her. I hope she has a better faith than Battista, who was my initial bet on the first semi. This is the type of Semi Final I dread, because there are at least five wonderful songs here, but only four can qualify!
Live performances might change everything of course, but for now there are five that I really like, three that are okay, and only one that I dislike. But I’m not telling which. 🙂

Actually a ballad is a good strategy. Last year’s top 2 had two very upbeat songs and usually countries follow that trend the following year. So 2019 could have less ballads, which means Seemone might stand-out (just like how she stands out in this selection as the only one who has a very classic ballad).

Send the best song.

Not your best song of the same type as the previous winner and the next one you think.
Always a bad idea. Always. Especially for France.

One ballad VS all the other upbeat songs => great result at the end for the ballad

Gabriella is so underrated to me. Her song is fresh, modern, catchy while retaining some kind of originality (that chorus and bridge are epic!). The lyrics are really good as well, it’s got an interesting message. Provided she’s good live and the staging fits the mood of the song, I’d love to see her fly my country’s flag against all odds.

Gabriella, Seemone, The Divaz and Tracy de Sa must qualify this weekend. And personnally, my winner for the French NF is Seemone. Her voice is so delicate and sweet, I love it. The melody of her song is really beautiful and relaxing. But, the lyrics aren’t really touching to me. The first time I listened to the 1-min snippet of ‘Tous les deux’ I thought she was dealing with her lover. And I was pretty surprised when I discovered it was actually about her dad. It’s so cute. But we don’t know if Seemone’s Papa is still alive or sick… Read more »

I think the hype is because it is quite different from the typical pop songs present in most contests (including DA). As a result, it stands out. I don’t dislike it but I’m not wildly crazy about it either – I think its mostly because people see it as a possible challenger to Bilal’s song.
Personally (and assuming she wows during her live performance) I’m hoping Gabriella has a chance at being selected. However Bilal is crazy popular in France and the jury seems to have bought into the hype so he just might be sent after all.

I just saw a video of Florina talking about her sadness because of the 0 points she received from the international juries. I was never really a fan of her song, and she didn’t gave the best performance, BUT her vocals and performance deserved better than those 0 points. I feel really sorry for her. Comparing her vocals to Bilal’s vocals, I can’t see a huge difference, and yet there were 58 points of difference between them. Tracy de Sa (pure bop – if she performs well I could see this being a top finalist at DA) 3. Seemone (Stands out due to its uniqueness. Could do well at Eurovision because of it.) 4. A little more difficult to decide on this semifinal because there is less difference in the musical genres. Emmanuel Moire is the one for whom the spectators of France 2 could vote. Ugo is the one to whom will vote teenagers. for the last two qualifiers, I’m going to bet on Tracy, who has a good song to dance and a lot of charisma, and Doutson who has a style that sells well in France. If I can add a bonus, I think Gabriella also has a chance to qualify.

My qualifiers are Seemone, Gabriella, Tracy de Sá, Ugo. But since last night juries’ votes, I think that Philipelise could qualify instaed of Tracy if the live isn’t good, just like Emmanuel could qualify instead of Ugo because it’s more “french” (that expression, lol).
