Temos um vencedor! After a marathon show, Portugal has finally chosen Conan Osíris with the song “Telemóveis” to represent them at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv. The hype was real, and now his ticket to Israel is too.
Tonight saw the return of the one and only Filomena Cautela to the Eurovision world as well as one of the strongest (if not the strongest) line-up in the history of Festival da Canção.
In the end, Conan Osíris managed to get the most points from both the jury and the televote: “Telemóveis” earned 24 points: 12 from the jury and 12 from the televote.
First up were the juries. There were seven of them representing the different regions of Portugal, and Conan Osíris was the artist that received the most points by a landslide! He received six out of seven sets of 12 points and a set of 10 points, a total of 82 points.
NBC came second with 54 points, and Surma came third with 46 points. Those votes were later converted to points in Eurovision-style from 12 to 3 (there were only eight songs).
Despite Conan’s landslide victory in the jury vote, the televoting was tense. While waiting for the top marks — the 8, 10 and 12 — to be revealed, there was still the possibility that NBC got more votes than Conan Osíris.
However, the Portuguese public placed “Igual a ti” third and then “Telemóveis” in first, so Conan Osíris scored the highest possible amount of points.
Festival da Canção 2019 Final – Running order
- Calema – “A dois”
- Mariana Bragada – “Mar doce”
- Matay – “Perfeito”
- Surma – “Pugna”
- NBC – “Igual a ti”
- Madrepaz – “Mundo a mudar”
- Conan Osíris – “Telemóveis”
- Ana Cláudia – “Inércia”
Apart from tonight’s performers, the show also welcomed countless Eurovision stars. As interval acts, we had former representatives of Portugal at Eurovision including Vania Fernandes, Cláudia Pascoal and Isaura, and Anabela.
Do you think Portugal made the right choice? Who was your favourite? Do you think Portugal can be in the final for the third year in a row? Tell us in the comment section below!
And you certainly have spoons on your eyes! Unfortunately or fortunately Portugal will send something that is not just simply trying to please the audience with something mainstream the public can easily recognise and you’re a good example Musically the portuguese entry surely stands out and even if you don’t like let’s say it a brave choice and not an easy one such nearly all the other ones.
Why is he wearing spoons on his face? Seriously though, this sounds like 10 kids in Kindergarten pretending to play music. Monotonous.

Mastearpiece! I am really glad Portugal will send a diferent kind of music! And this is just wahaaaou Just listen it yersterday and I feel really hypnotised! I really thint this could me the winner, a big surprise from Portugal! Thank you!
Can’t get out of my mind… this song is amazing! The more I listen the more I want to listen to.
I can not resist. Since yesterday, 02-16-2019, social networks have attacked Conan Osiris and his song “Cell Phones” by Conan Osiris. This boy sang and (dis) delighted who heard him in the 1st semifinal of the RTP1 Song Festival. Although I enjoyed the music a lot, I had never bothered to understand it, especially the lyrics. That is when a netizen, after the atrocities that have been written, about the performance of this artist publishes a post that I strongly recommend his reading. I also read it (several times) and if I liked the music I liked it even more.… Read more »

The future just called on my mobile. It said: welcome to Portugal. I say: Yes pls.
Chile Eurovision fans support Conan Osiris!
Fantastic live interview with Conan tonight by Filomena Cautela on Portuguese tv, he is so funny and also so kind and humble, he may come across as a little bizzare on stage but he is a great guy.
I loved it!

People who don’t like this song have yet to form a good explanation for it. They don’t need one, but most of them try to.
“It’s way too weird”
“It’s out of sync”
“It’s scary” (I heard this!)
“It’s artsy-fartsy for people who think they are smarter”
When you squeezed them and their arguments they all end up at that point of “I just don’t like it”. If that’s the case just go for it, no need to bash who likes this song or to make yourself look smarter.
So true…
Don’t forget: “It’s not music”, Lmao
That one is hilarious!
People fear the unknown so much they just say “it’s not real”.

London DJ praises Conan Osiris’ performance and says he will be the winner of Eurovision: London DJ Shady Shae has posted a video on his YouTube channel where he comments on the performance of Conan Osiris, who will represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest … https: //twitter.com/dnoticias/status/1102910893417947136
I can’t believe y’all think this is good.. the instrumental part is awesome, i will give him that, but i’m sorry it says nothing to me, there’s no quality in his voice, and i can’t describe this as conceptual music or art because it’s not well put together in my opinion.
The comments section gotta be full of patriot portuguese eurofans cause otherwise it’s worrying lol
Anyway, good luck from Austria…..
Read the wiwiblogg article where they are reviewing Festival da Cancao and you will understand that is not only a “patriotic Portuguese” thing. Check also the Williams and Deban’s reaction video and many other reaction videos, none of them by Portuguese.
Sure, as if the people who run this website are never biased and they don’t want to root for the national’s favorite to ensure more clicks, views and income..
They were rooting for Spain’s ‘tu cancion’ last year, even saying it could win lol.. just cause it was the spanish fans favorite act of course
Now who is being toxic?… As I said, check other reaction videos, if you think wiwibloggs are not credible…
I am not Portuguese and don’t understand overall the language (only some words) but I adore that song. Of course everybody is entitled to their opinion and express it freely. The problem with your comment (and so many others) is that you act suprised that other people do like the song, just like me. Indeed, this is a bit offensive as you are imposing your view on others. Your comment is actually not the worse I’ve seen, but it goes in that direction and this is what pisses people off.
Thank you, Bart, for pointing out something that needs to be acknowledged by so many people in this forum…
Thank you 🙂
100% agree with you there Bart. If people dont like the song then its fine to say they dont like it but so many people make it personal, saying things like “you must be stupid if you like this song” or “you must be a crazy Portuguese eurofan”, there is no need to insult people who do like it. The same happened last year when i made some comment about not liking Netta (toy) song and i was accused of hating Israel and all kinds of stuff just because i didnt like one song. Its a crazy world we live… Read more »
Thank you! Exactly. 😉
I love this performance. Do you think IF Portugal winston they Will decline hosting Eurovision 2020?
Hei Chu. RTP’s frontman said on the second semi-final of Festival da Canção that Portugal is ready to host again 🙂
of course not
Portugal want to win and to host again!
im portuguese and no, but we dont even believe that we will win let alone host again. And theres no need to focus on that anyway
Speak for yourself, I’m Portuguese and I believe we’re going to win and Portugal is prepared to receive Eurovision again in 2020 and make a great organization again.
I’m portuguese and I believe we can win! Speak for yourself, Mario. Temos que acreditar 😀
Absolutely not!
Good job Portugal, it was the only performance that grabbed my attention.
Just sharing my opinion here, but am I the only one that really, really dislikes this song? Right now, it’s in my personal last spot. I think the staging is weird, I mean, the guy next to Conan looks like a bird?? I don’t like the dancing and I definitely don’t like his voice. It sounds too whiny and almost sounds like he’s trying to hypnotise you or something. I cannot really explain it well, but seriously, how do so many people seem to like this? Didn’t like Salvador, don’t like Conan now. My top 3 right now: 1. Norway… Read more »
Well, you love Norway’s song so much. The reason why you don’t like Portugal’s song is therefore self-explanatory…
So true….lol.
It sounds to me that you have a problem with Portugal not the song or the songs.
It sounds to me that you should leave your patriotism behind and enjoy eurovision from some distance, stop glorifying your country’s entry cause it’s simply not good, k??? .. and also, stop coming on the comments section to tell off everybody who dislikes this song… And by the way i love Portugal, but i hate: portuguese, albanian, croatian, spanish, and turkish (now they are gone) eurofans.. because they are toxic and they take over social media to defend their songs.. most of the days, it’s just annoying. If you like your freaking song, good for you, but let go and… Read more »
Wow, I think comments like yours are toxic. And yes there are many toxic comments everywhere and too much patriotism from commentors from all countries. But that kind of generalization you make, that’s exactly where the toxicity is. Don’t like a song, fair enough, but that’s just your opinion, like anyone else’s. It is not a matter of fact.
That’s exactly what I mean… So why can’t portuguese fans accept that not everybody thinks this is good? I mean, i’ve seen a comment just above that replies something like: seems that you have a problem with Portugal.. really bitch?! some people need serious reality checks.. And about being toxic, i think i’m just being harsh cause this comment section is ridiculous, but those are freaking facts.. portuguese, spanish, albanian, croatian fans are toxic, i can repeat it many times, and by the way all generalizations exist for a reason even if they are not nice or fair, but who… Read more »
Well and apparently austrian fans are toxic as well, at least one austrian fan
You are the one insulting people calling me bitch and I am toxic?… Please…
Well … the Portuguese eurofans are that they are toxic ?. by its expression against Portuguese spells and etc and the way it generalizes vésse that is toxic. Good luck to your country of a Portuguese who considers that in all there are people more and less toxic regardless of nationality.
Well, listen, you’re right that some comments are inflamentory… But you have to see, it has been years and years of laughing about the Portuguese entries in the ESC community. And now that the underdog has won and comes up with out of the box impactful material (whether you like it or not) there are fans that are reacting very badly to that and saying really bad things about Portugal (not only the songs but the country and the people, which is unfair and uncalled for). It’s natural that the Portuguese fans overreact.
Salvador and Conan are way too different why do you compare the 2? . ridiculous, move on already. i did not like Sobral at all but i LOVE Conan. Also, saying it sounds whiny when you like Iceland and they have a whiny voice singing the chorus? give me a break.
I personally believe Telemoveis is extremely artistic, brave and interesting. I can see him being called by Madonna soon, while Keiino is nice but is a made up act for the Eurovision than won’t have any following after Esc because no one will be interested, not even them. And I’m not Portuguese, I’m from Spain(and I don’t rig polls nor usually like Spanish songs, btw).
Well, I understand not liking the song or the performance, this is personal preference, but I think the clothes that make him look like a bird is intentional, he’s trying to call the sky with his cell phone. I interpret this as some sort of fallen angel allegory, the whole song is metaphorical about death and connection with loved ones. I find it very original, but I agree that the performance is a bit off putting.

i think it’s the first time that Portugal is in my top 3. THANK YOU Portugal for taking a risk and not sending another boring ballad. I never thought that you’d send something like this but im happy. I’m loving the musical and visual diversity and creativity, this is why i love ESC <3 Pop songs and ballads are great, but it's nice to have something else in the contest too.
LOL so true
Amazing interview! Essential to understand the personal background of Conan Osiris
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDEOR9VWrn0
I just “love” the fandom complaining about the lyrics, or saying that “music is ok, but the lyrics…!”… come on!! Last year the winner imitated a chicken on stage! and the lyrics were kind of bad, but apparently they were “empowering”…
If Conan was not a “threat” you will not bother this much
Absolutely, some people are just afraid their favorite might not even qualify, and they should be! 😉
Great acustic version of “Telemóveis” (he sings during the interview)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7P04M6MQy8
I really can’t stand this one. Is he making fun of the audience? Or can anybody explain the whole performance to me? That’s utterly ridiculous in every way. Who would listen to that on the radio or even download it? And don’t say it’s art – because it’s not!
It’s trending in the radio in Portugal and he has a concert in Berlin with kind of songs… Maybe the problem is you.
Bitchy, are we…?! Well, he just won the pre-selection so of course they play it in Portugal and only because he will be attending one concert in Berlin doesn’t make it more likeable to me. Sweety, It’s just my personal taste/opinion but maybe my taste is better than yours… 😉
For each bitch you make three bitches from the way you write. Hey sh@thead, he was being playing in the radio during all summer, you f@ck, and the song even before he won SF1. So don’t open your smelly mouth to throw garbage at people and educate your ears or just plain wash them.
Oh… still bitchy… lol
yes, this is what you need
Guess you need something else… a really hard f…
Classy… that explains a lot, including your taste in music
You want someone to explain the performance to you, so here you go. The song is about someone trying to call a person that is dead. It’s about the uselessness of technology (cell phones) to deal with “saudade” (a word that has no translation in other languages but is a mixture of longing and nostalgia for something that cannot return). The name of the singer, Osiris, is the Egyptian god of rebirth and life beyond death, which again connects with the theme of the song. The mask on his face is a reminiscence of this Egyptian god Osiris, but it… Read more »
Well Maria, thank you for that explanation… very much appreciated. 🙂 Now it makes more sense of course…
Ooooh…..Maria, Great Explanation! Even I’m being Portuguese, I Didn’t Know such thing. Already liked the song, but now even more!!!
You are too generous to explain something beautiful to someone that is empty headed. But thanks, that was nice.
maria, you’re the BEST! <3
This is simply amazing. Obrigado for sharing!
Não interessa explicar…
O Conan é muita areia para o teu camião inteligência.
Não percebeste o que escrevi em português?
Temos pena. Olha vai ao Google translator e aproveita para também te informares melhor sobre o significado de metáfora, a letra da música e o significado da coreografia em palco.
Entendido ou tenho de fazer um desenho?
Peace.
Well, I don’t think you can tell me what art is, so you can’t also what art is not. Whatever…no one is calling this art, people are mostly caught because of its beat and his voice. Some people like and you have to deal with it. How awful would the world be if we all liked yellow. I don’t get how you his performance ridiculousthough, he’s singing while wearing weird stuff and there’s a guy dancing. Pretty clear!
I see the music here – GREAT music- but not the song. Eurovision is a song contest not art performance contest. I just don’t get the whole idea with the cell phones, the weird dance, costumes are ok but in general I don’t get at all the hype around Portugal’s entry. Waiting for Greece and Malta. Greece will slay this year, it is quite promising!
Wtf Portugal? This guy can’t sing, this guy can’t dance.. and the mistery, captivating, intense whatsoever atmosphere he’s trying to bring… is just NOT working.. it comes across funny and ridiculous rather than serious. It is dreadful material ..holy cow!!
NOT QUALIFYING
What a disappointing and mediocre year this one is being for sure.. just a few decent entries! I’m sorry for those of you paying thru your nose to get a seat and accomodation in Tel Aviv.. this has to improve ASAP!!
So much bitterness and full of hatred….eat a cake and don´t be nervous. A narrow mind usually comes with a wide mouth.
I’m not nervous at all, i was indeed a bit bitter because i just listened to this disturbing performance and the shocking was so big that’s how i could express myself.. you know that you have to let go your mouth to avoid anxiety , right? You should try too.. i feel much better now 🙂 , and i don’t need to eat a cake, i’m lactose intolerant but thank you 🙂 By the way, this is a public forum.. and i’m judging a performer and a performance, that’s basically what eurovision is made for as we all vote on… Read more »

Well, now it´s about judging!…who would say?!
So much erudition, I may cry.
PS: lactose free are also available and some are hate free too…try them, it will brighten your day.
Totally agree with you. I love the instrumental part sounds a bit Tibetian (a bit “Hare Krishna”) but the rest seems like a joke to me.
It’s an absolutely bewitching and addictive song!
It seems like this gets into your body and your soul and you don’t know why!
That is the magic in this song, first you listen to that like wtf? Then you listen twice and you don’t know anymore and so you start to like it” The mixture of sounds, the madness of this guy whoww…! This is the kind of music that fulfills its purpose that is to say it enters and will never get out of your head!
Please give a chance to this crazy man because this is so good!
I would like to say two things: 1st, although its completly valid for you to don’t like the song, you cannot deny that this is probably one of the best and captivating stage performances this year (pairing with Hatari). And he did that just with his stage presence (clothes and moves) and his dancer and without any fancy LED screen, props or special effects. If anything will be fair, the juries will need to recnognize and value that. 2nd the winning reprise performance its for me one of the best moments of Eurovision pre-season so far.It was amazing seeing all… Read more »
No I can deny that this is one of the best and captivating stage performances. Because I believe it is. Albania captivates you just with a good orchestra and a strong vocal. Spain captivates with fun dance song. This is such a weird entry. It seems original I`ll give you that but not every original thing is a nice thing. Same with Iceland. Being original on the purpose of being original is actually not an original idea and generally fails
I like many kind of music, but i don’t understand this kind of, there’s no anything what grabs me in, can’t find melody. For me it is sort of odd mix of ambient & ethnic. Many ambient music are great, some ethnic music are great too. But this one is not for me.
But i’m happy also this kind of music has supporters. I support you. I hope this wins, althought, it’s not my favorite for win.

Well, at least this song serves me for one purpose: I’m desperate for more songs I can hate this year! So far I only have three! Spain, Iceland and now Portugal. Help!
That’s my exact top 3 right now lol
By your lack of taste I’m gonna guess your top 3 is Montenegro, Croatia and Georgia.
Desperate for hate is not very healthy.
I fell a sleep after 4 seconds. Sorry Portugal
Then you missed the whole song. I am sorry for you…
Are you expecting each song to have 10 seconds? Well, that’s not a good , strong piece of an argument, is it?
Conan Osíris just climb to nº7 on odds!

Here we go again….
It seems the salvador sobral haters are back in town.
Despite the dirty campaign of 2017 we all know how it all ended. I see that there are already a lot of nervous people around here.
Keep calm and eat a banana and enjoy all music, all songs. Peace.
O come on. You just can’t compare it with the stunning retro ballad which brought tears to our eyes with this… male belly dancer tripping on invisible bananas
I seriously disliked Salvadors song. For me his song was slowly meowing. But at least it was a song. I understand some people can enjoy that and respect. For me, worse winner of all times but again Im cool with it. This is just weird. Everything seems out of sync, vocals, dance.
Yes, out of sync, that’s called innovation!!
You’re wellcome!
Hypnotising ! Authentic and original!
Check the remixes of “telemoveis”.
I want to burn those hipster shoes
Nike * joins conversation*
imo the song itself is not that bad but the performance is dead awful.i turned it off to search for the lyrics video
just my opinion but all this attempt to be as weird as possible kills the message and turns this song into a joke
I’m not portugese nor do i speak the language, but i have heard from a handful of portugese people that the lyrics of this song are very difficult to translate well into english because he uses a lot of words that have no english equivalent (like “saudade”, for example)
No, the problem with the translation is not the words but the meaning of the lyrics. It’s not entirely obvious the meaning of the song therefore a literal translation could be off. Still I feel it is indeed about saudade / longing for someone who died and maybe about getting to live after that.
There are layers to the lyrics, as in poetry, a verse can be about a thing and the next verse about something else!
This one is about a longing that can’t be bared and so he says: he’s breaking his phone to call heaven. Then it’s about a way to build yourself again, “breaking your phone” as a way to reconnect with your self again and trusting your self-estimat: “If I break my phone, it’s only mine to break!”
So it’s a journey of feelings, not just a concept.
Like someone else already said: The strength of Telemoveis is in the soundscape it creates. The ridiculous costumes and frenetic movement from Conan and the dancer only distract from the audio experience and as a consequence seriously weaken the piece.
Every year I’m supporting the class quality Portugal is sending. Before Salvador’s victory I always stood up for the Portuguese entries even when they were horribly underrated… but apparently they lost their charm. I’m sorry Portugal, you’re in my bottom 3. This is just not good at all and I’m really sorry for that, because I always enjoy your entries… just not this time.
The music is great but the singing part is awful. Can’t watch this performance without cringing and making wtf face all the time.
Omg what is this
Dear Portugal
You know you’re stuffed when I like you less than I do Spain. And everyone knows how critic I am with Spain.
I like weird, I loved Lordi and Do-Re-Dos, but I liked weird when it looks like something Larry Rickard would write. This looks like a weird acid trip.
If you need me, I’m camping with Italy Hungary and Norway.
Xoxo
Nikki
If you loved Do Re Dos I am actually glad you dont like Conan. Nuff said.
No… Do Re Dos was so fun. Creative fun. I liked it. 🙂
Conan is also very good, although my opinion is certainly biased. There’s no reason to put someone down to put someone else up.
I loved DoReDos traditional sounds and comedy act.
And the name reminds me of Doritos. I like Doritos. ?
I don’t value staging over the song. The song is terrible imo, so there is no amount of creative staging that can save it.
Someone that liked Do-Re-Dos doesn’t have much credibility. So, you little ridiculuos letter can go directly to the bin
Oh, it’s just another “very special, daring and exploring artist” which became a synonym for “I don’t know to sing, dance or play anything but people on internet told me that I should be musician”…. Can we please go back in era when having a decent song was good enough and not everyone was trying desperately to be shocking?
It’s not the case here, he was always like this like it or not.
Eurovision should be all about the music, quality of song and vocal interpretation, not a personality contest, parade of semi-talented, attention wanting “artists” who are putting god knows what on themselves just to be noticed.
Except the SONG and his SINGING was what pulled people to like and even hype it before he even showed his act at the national final.
Oh please, what song and what singing? It’s just a sound of cat having birth with some uh’s and oh’s every once in a while. Fans love it because of his appearance. It’s plain and simple.
In a real music, you can be eccentric for all you want, but you must have a quality to support it (like Lady Gaga or Prince). This is just very weird guy with a male pole dancer who throws himself around.
Fans were already behind it when it was only the audio file. Many people were even disappointed with the stage performance when it came time for it. Juries included. (I’d say that’s why they gave him a low score in the semis – they wanted more from him.)
Disliking an entry is completely valid, for whatever reason it may be… But fact is, the fans started liking it when it was just the sound, no visuals. At least none besides the dude’s still face as the video’s background.
Eurovision should be… And then 2018 happened., with those top two. Never the less, our song has much more feeling than those and is more artistic.
your comments is full of hate…and came from 2017!!!!
Sobral effect???
