Armenia in Junior Eurovision 2019: Karina Ignatyan “Colours Of Your Dream”

Armenian broadcaster AMPTV held its national final Depi Mankakan Evraesil on 15 September. After a round of auditions, ten acts were shortlisted to represent Armenia in Poland. The winner was decided through a combination of public and jury votes. One-third of the votes came via text and the other two-thirds were via jury, one being an international adult jury and one an international kids jury.

With 138 points, Karina Ignatyan took the crown with her pop smash “Colours of Your Dream”.

The 13-year-old was born in Kaluga, Russia and has already competed in several international music competitions including the Russian version of The Voice Kids and New Wave Junior. Now she is competing on the greatest stage of them all at Junior Eurovision. This girl is talented!

What do the “Colours of Your Dream” lyrics mean?

Sung in both Armenian and English, “Colours of Your Dream” has a beat that will stay in your head all day and a chorus with vibes similar to an upbeat version of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You”.

The song  is about when things are getting you down and when you “feel like life is black and white”. The solution? Let music, love and your dreams – the colours of your life — beat those blues and make it right!

“Today you are sad / You’re not in the mood and you’re quiet / But I know, I know the secret to happiness / You must, you must hear my song / And finally find it / The colours of your dream
Of joy / When you feel like life is black and white /Add some colour to brighten it up”

The track promotes positivity. We need to celebrate every day because there are so many wonderful things, and colours in our lives. We must remember and cherish these so that we can rise upwards and shine.

“Shine like the stars above / Let your eyes sparkle /And in your life / Paint it with the colours of your dream / Head upwards / Now I will give you wings / The heart of life / They sing with the colours of your dream”

When you feel like life is black and white
Take a brush and mix the colours right

Shine on like stars above,
Never stop believing in love,
Make the magic real
Paint your life with colours of your dream.
Come on don’t be shy,
I’ll be teaching you how to fly,
We’re the greatest team
Paint the world with colours of your dream!
Paint the world with colours…

English translation

World of dreams
Which is for you and me
Starting a new journey
Give me your hand
Let my song play
Non stop

Where are you
Today you are sad
You’re not in the mood and you’re quiet
But I know, I know the secret to happiness
You must, you must hear my song
And finally find it
The colours of your dream
Of joy
When you feel like life is black and white
Add some colour to brighten it up

Shine like the stars above
Let your eyes sparkle
And in your life
Paint it with the colours of your dream
Head upwards
Now I will give you wings
The heart of life
They sing with the colours of your dream
They sing with the colours of your dream

Celebrate, celebrate every day
And the most important thing is
To fill your life
With the colours of happiness
Your heart is heavy
Which feeds the fire
But you must believe
And live with love

When you feel like life is black and white
Take a brush and mix the colours right

Shine on like stars above
Never stop believing in love
Make the magic real
Paint your life with colours of your dream
Come on, don’t be shy
I’ll be teaching you how to fly
With the greatest dream
Paint the world with colours of your dream
Paint the world with colours

Shine like the stars above
Let your eyes sparkle
And in your life
Paint it with the colours of your dream
Now I will give you wings
The heart of life
They sing with the colours of your dream

Ooh, with colours of your dream
Paint the world with colours of your dream!

She could be the daughter of Anne Hatheway and Nicholas Cage 🙂 Best song this year!

The chorus has a great rhythmic drive. I feel like this song needs a lot of activity on stage, but if it gets that it could be Top 5.

Online, people really seem to like this. I think it’s pretty good but not amongst the frontrunners this year. I find that it tries to do a lot of the things that good Armenian things do but it doesn’t do any of them well enough to be truly memorable. I think it’ll get a result similar to last year’s.

Based on their best entries in the adult competition, this is exactly what I would expect from a junior Armenian entry.

I find her to be a bit of a young(er) Artsvik, quite nice actually. Certainly compared to the others I’ve heard in this competition whose colors are somewhere between beige and grey. Armenia seems to be a better JESC player than an ESC player these days. I approve whatever this color is. It’s also a good example of a bilingual song that works.

I vaguely remember Armenia being my favorite last year as well. Gotta love a good trumpet. Frankly, it’s the only act I can remember.

This is absolutely amazing and easily my favorite song this year. She is a great singer and this song is everything JESC needs: it’s uptempo but it still has a great message whilst being child-friendly. This is a big dark horse, trust me.

It is in my top five and undoubtedly will get my vote. This was my winner from the beginning right until Malta and north Macedonia’s songs came out

She’s amazing! If it was any other year, she would probably be running for a top 3 finish, but this year will probably end up in the top 5…assuming the Armenian broadcaster makes input on the staging (unlike 2017 and 2018).
