ESCZ 2020 Participants

It’s the online national final that has given the Czech Republic their two best ever placings at Eurovision. And now, the format is back for a third year, with seven artists competing in ESCZ 2020 for the opportunity to represent their country at Eurovision 2020.

Like last year, fans from across the globe will be able to vote for their favourite songs through the official Eurovision app (an international jury will also have a say in the final outcome). However, voting won’t open until the songs are released next Monday 20 January.

Until then, we want to know which of the seven artists competing in ESCZ 2020 you’re most excited for.

ESCZ 2020 Participants

For those of you who have been following the selection in recent years, two names will pop up — Barbora Mochowa and Pam Rabbit. Both artists participated in ESCZ 2019. Barbora was a strong fan favourite with her Lana-Del-Rey-style ballad “True Colors”. Meanwhile, Pam brought some cool beats with “Easy to Believe”.

Czech Listeners are, however, more familiar with Olga Lounová and Ben Cristovao. Both of them have garnered millions of views for their songs, which are mainly in the Czech language. Olga is know both for singing happy and fun songs as well as touching tunes. Ben Cristovao is one of the most popular rappers in the Czech Republic. Though his genre is not so popular at Eurovision, he definitely has it in him to change that.

Then we have Karelll, who is relatively new to the Czech music scene. Nevertheless, he’s already managed to reach audiences with his modern production and interesting pop songs.

There’s also a duo in the form of Elis Mraz and Cis T. Elis is a Czech pop singer with her own style and she’s teamed up with Cis T, who is a Slovak rapper. This could be a really interesting international cooperation.

Last but not least is a new born band We All Poop. It seems that these four guys have made a band just for ESCZ and with such a name they will get instant attention. I guess we now know whose genre is “planned coincidence punk pop”.

Poll: Which ESCZ 2020 act are you most excited for?

I am soooo bored of our country sending swift songs like last two years, I want to have ballad again, Olga and Barbora should have the highest chances in this.

As a Czech I have to say I’m really glad Ben decided to participate. Quality of his stuff (not just music but overall package) is beyond the other participants. My only worry is his music style. I’m also glad that Barbara came back. I just hope she realized that copying Lana is not the right way.

we know pam in the rabbit hole and Lana del Mochowa from their last year’s attempts, but you can’t not be intrigued, appalled and amazed by the avantgarde miserabilist prospect which is We All Poop, because we indeed all do that and we love it. Paraphrasing Francisco de Quevedo, we could say, even before listening to the song, that our love for We All Poop is greater than the immense pleasure to take a shit.

You guys are judging the book by it’s cover smh, a lot of bands have weird names like “Psychedelic Porn Crumpets” or even the classical “My Chemical Romance”, those bands have weird names but that doesn’t mean they are automatically bad

of course, it might be a hardcore punk band, they might have an important social or existential message to send. I said that I’m quite intrigued.

For me it’s same (I’m Czech too) even though Barbora is from the same town as I am but still I don’t think she has a chance against Ben
