Albert Lake Malawi Poland Eurovision 2020

Poland’s search for a Eurovision star will continue in a few days’ time. But ahead of Sunday’s third semi-final of Szansa na Sukces – Eurowizja 2020we asked our readers to vote for which semi three act they were most excited for. And the results are in — Albert Černý is your pre-show favourite.

But before we take a look at the poll results, let’s quickly preview what to expect in episode three of the new series.

Poland’s Szansa na Sukces – Eurowizja 2020: Semi-final three

As with the opening two episodes, seven acts will compete for one spot in the final. However, whereas acts from the first two semis were challenged with ABBA and Eurovision hits respectively, the third batch will be required to take on some evergreens from The Beatles’ back cataglogue.

They’ll be judged by an expert jury made up of song contest alums Cleo (2014), Michal Szpak (2016) and Gromee (2018). This panel will select one act who will qualify for the final. The chosen performer will join Kasia Dereń and Alicja Szemplińska.

We will only hear their songs for Rotterdam in the final

Semi-final three running order and songs

  1. Marek Kaliszuk “Help!”
  2. Nick Sinckler “Can’t Buy Me Love”
  3. Basia Gąsienica Giewont “Love Me Do”
  4. Albert Černý “Please Please Me”
  5. Norbert Legieć “She Loves You”

Has anyone noticed that the rules have changed? TVP published new rules (which doesn’t really make sense because how can you change the rules when the competition has already started?). The rules used to say that the winner has to live in Poland or have a Polish nationality but this rule is gone. Could it possibly be about Albert? Another interesting thing is the fact that they mention a possible “golden ticket” (it’s not a change though, it was mentioned in the rules before). The person who wins a golden ticket will participate in the grand final. But it’s not… Read more »

Euro to the Voix said some more stuff about it. Sadly, it looks like our boy Albert might be out of the game. It’s really weird that they flipped it around like that, but at the same time I think they stood back for a second and realized just how bizarre this whole set-up was and were like, “We can still fix this, right?”

Wait, how exactly is Albert out of the game when the rule that only ‘allows people who reside in Poland/be of Polish citizenship’ has been removed? If anything, shouldn’t this increase his chances?

Of course Albert won the poll since European audience simply has never heard of any other contestants. Moreover, I’m certain that many Poles haven’t too, including Albert, sadly. 😉

Guys, off-topic, but did you all notice that Italy’s song hasn’t been confirmed yet? Did I miss something?
It’s still Diodato for them, but as I’ve read on the Eurovision website, his song for Rotterdam will be confirmed soon.
They have removed “Fai rumore” on Wikipedia as well.

If so, I really hope he will choose “Che vita meravigliosa”.

I’d love that too. Imho it’s way better than fai rumore. Better lyrics, better vocals.

I wonder if he didn’t wanna cut the song down as it was personal so he’ll just change songs… or maybe it’s just an error or something… kinda weird either way as they had it confirmed at first right?

Really interesting how it’s all early-ish Beatles. For whatever reason, I thought he’d be best served singing All You Need is Love. I think it’d sound good in his voice. At the very least, he should take Please Please Me down an octave or two or he might strain his voice.

It’s madness. Naming this semi “the Beatles episode” and choosing only the rock numbers from the Fab Four’s early days is like calling US California. Of course California is a beautiful region in its own right, but it doesn’t give you the whole picture of what that country is and leaves the vast majority of the iconic landmarks and landscapes behind. I don’t know who was responsible for selecting the covers for this show, but many of their choices are at least questionable.

No, you shouldn’t call the US California. Call the US NEW YORK BABYYYY!!!

100% unbiased opinion 😉
I guess you could say NY is the “Abbey Road” of America.
I’ve always found relations between the US states fascinating, they’re kinda like 50 countries rolled into one.

He hasnt Polish roots. He only grew up in Czech city near the Polish borders, where Czech and Polish people have their own friendly living place. It is Silesia, place of strong people from two nations with their own Czech-Polish language. Their centre is Ostrava (called black jungle thanks to industry and wild life) in Czech Rep and it is really interesting place, where Czechs and Polish are like one nation.

I’m Czech and I’ve never heard that Ostrava is called black jungle (but of course I know about industry) nor that they have their own language, just dialect, I have friends who are from Ostrava but I’ve never really heard about that 😀 I know only about Cesky Tesin (where Ewa Farna comes from) only because it’s at Czech-Polish border
