Szansa Szansa Szansa! For Eurovision 2020, Poland is using the long-running Szansa na Sukces franchise to find its act and song for Rotterdam and hoping to change their fortunes at the contest. The same approach landed them a victory at Junior Eurovision 2019. Last week the competition kicked off and crowned Kasia Dereń as its first finalist.
There is a different theme every week and this week’s theme was Eurovision hits. Seven singers performed their interpretations of Eurovision classics. Again it was up to the panel of Eurovision veterans Michal Szpak, Cleo and Gromee to decide which one performer should progress to the final.
Alicja Szemplinska
Alicja Szemplinska won the second semi-final, singing her cover of Poland’s most successful Eurovision song, Edyta Gorniak’s “To Nie Ja” and booked her ticket to the final!
There were two honourable mentions this week. Paulina Czapla sang Salvador Sobral’s Eurovision winner “Amar Pelos Dois” and Weronika Curylo sang the 1979 cult classic “Dschinghis Khan”.

Are you happy that Alicja progressed to the final? What Beatles song do you want the acts to cover in the final semi? Let us know in the comments.
TVP is known for its propaganda. They lie about things that are much more serious, so I would not expect them to be fair when it comes to a contest like Eurovision… Don’t get me wrong, as a Polish person, I am glad that someone is actually trying to care more about Eurovision but this whole selection seems staged. On one hand, it’s normal that they want to promote artists who have some connection to them, but here it seems that there were some favorites from the start and others didn’t stand a chance. Kasia and Alicja are both very… Read more »
what did she do with Edyta’s song??? Maybe she has a good voice, but the girl can’t sing…
She CAN sing, one performance doesn’t take away fact that she’s winner of The Voice of Poland
so what? does it give her a ticket to eurovision? this performance supposed to crucial, she sang it awfully and still made it to the finals…strange
big boobs she had
I think that will good song for Polski done
Kasia Deren or Alicja Szemplinska
Kaasia
kasia
Brawo Alicja
Amazing voice
Unique voice
Good luck Poland
she sang quite awfully
After two episodes I have an impression that this format was better for the Junior Eurovision but maybe it’s a matter of the wrong song selection. A lot of contestants try to impress the jury with something but not every song can show their full potential. Maybe it would be fairer if they made their own choice what they wanted to sing… Anyway, I hope that somebody will get a gold ticket to the final (Weronika or Paulina because they deserved it).
Weronika is the best
Paulina amazing women
I thought Golden Ticket was for someone who isn’t participating in the heats?
Inviting a person who didn’t participate in Szansa na Sukces wouldn’t be fair to other contestants. I think that golden ticket is for someone who was honorably mentioned in one of the episodes, but it’s not entirely clear.
The more I watch Szansa na Suckes, the more I think this is all staged. In both semis the girls STRONGLY connected with TVP get the songs where they can show their skills whereas the others get the songs to sing off or wery weird ones with whom they are not comfortable to show anything but just to make it karaoke-like contest recorded at the bar . I don’t believe it is a coincidence that Kasia Dere? had Mamma mia, Szlachta Sister has Dancing Queen which is a regular part of their concerts and now Szempli?ska has To Nie Ja…… Read more »
ofc this is staged…
No offense to eastern countries now. BUT take Belarus for example and Ukraine. It have been a lot of weird votings there. But i hope Poland play fair:)
To be fair, Kasia Deren was definetly the best choice in semi1 and all these 7 ABBA songs are well known.
Here we had joke entry in german from 70s vs literal classic in Polish which has been chosen even though it looked like she’s not even trying (in a bad way).
The same with Stashka.
Saszan and Hyzy, both NF 2018 entrants with songs written by Lanberry (co-writer of “Anyone I Want to Be” and “Superhero”), really had bad luck with their songs and thus wouldn’t qualify even with 5 out of 7 going through.
Me too
Fa?szowa?a na maksa. Pisze po polsku bo nie chce robi? siary dalej, ale generalnie lipa straszna.
She’s amazing singer and we all have seen this in The Voice of Poland
She is, but this is Szansa na Sukces, not The Voice of Poland. They should’ve vote based on what they’ve seen NOW and now she was just “alright”, not amazing for sure.
are u braindead?
yes but Szansa na sukces is so unfair that I don’t care. Alicja has a big potencial to do well at ESC
Then why bother with preselections if you already decided she should win without looking at other performances? Rules says that person who performs the best out of 7 contestants will win and she won because of her good performances BEFORE preselections what make no sense.
To nie ja isn’t the song for her
Almost noone got “song just for them”. That’s the point
Made in Alicja Szemplinska
Actually… It wasn’t a good performance
Weronika was the Best …. it i think everything is already planed
Weronika Curylo and Paulina Czapla is so good
So, I don’t think it was the best performance. She can be the best choice overal, but this song that day wasn’t the best out of these 7 imo so I don’t think it’s fair. She couldn’t hit high notes where Edyta did (main thing in song like that) and melody was all over the place. Maybe it’s stress, idk but I’m not happy that she won that’s for sure. I know she’s amazing artist but she hasn’t shown that in this performance and it’s what judges should look at. I’d place Alicja on 3rd spot, after 2nd Paulina (“Amar… Read more »
I agree. She might have the biggest potential with the right song but I felt nothing when she performed “To nie ja!”. Weronika Curylo and Paulina Czapla, honourable mentions, did way better with harder material. If Ala would slay either of “Dschinghis khan” or “Amar pelos dois” the way they did, it would be fine to pick her but she didn’t. I’m not mad at her but it feels fishy that she got this particular song – the only one in native language. I’d rather watch all songs in foreign languages (no Polish and English) or current English hits from… Read more »
100% agree. Thing about Sashan is that it’s not like you can do a lot with song she got. It’s the worst one to get imo.
Yes and no, “Congratulations” has a very pleasent section when it builds. It was not included there. I think arrangement was quite fishy. I’d also say that this version of “Heroes” also could have been better in terms of arrangement.
I think that including season Poland will interesting
We Keep our fingers crossed behind polish song
Song should to be style Viki Gabor superhero, rami w rami
Cleo “Dom “
It’s all going in the right way!
Kasia won sf 1
Alicja won sf 2
Next week Albert from sf 3
And the Final of Szansa na Sukces will be amazing!
