She will sing “Drowning” in Croatia’s national selection for Eurovision 2020 this Saturday. And our readers certainly feel the power of waters as they’ve voted Lorena Bućan as the Dora 2020 act they are most excited for…before the official snippets come out later this afternoon.
Lorena Bućan is the Dora 2020 act you’re most excited for
Following the artists reveal in December, we asked our readers to vote for the Dora act they are most excited for. And after amassing 942 votes, Lorena collected 294 votes (or 31.21% of overall votes), thus beating the competition of 15 other singers vying to represent the Mediterranean country in Rotterdam.
The singer came second at the revived selection in 2019. Her oriental-inspired “Tower of Babylon” came a close second with the jury and third with the public. And this year she’s sticking with the Huljić family for another attempt – the songwriter Ivan Huljic is the son of Vjekoslava and Tonci Huljic who – together with her 2019 song – also wrote Croatia’s 1999 entry.
This year she performs 11th in the running order. Last year Roko performed in same position – will it prove a lucky number for her too?
Coming a distant second in our poll is Mia Negovetic with 138 votes or 14.65% in overall. The finalist of Little Big Shots will perform “When It Comes To You”, a song penned by Linnea Debb and Anderz Wrethov. With their recent success at both Sweden’s Melodifestivalen and Eurovision, could they triumph in Croatia as well?
Rounding out the top three is one of the more seasoned acts of this year’s Dora – Indira Levak and “You Will Never Break My Heart” earned 121 votes in our poll. Her songwriters have recently been revealed as Doron Medalie – the man behind Eurovision 2018 winner – and Ambroggio Crotti who had previously written songs for N’Sync, Backstreet Boys and Tom Jones. They teamed up with Croatia’s 2018 songwriter Branimir Mihaljević on the piece.
Poll: Which Dora 2020 act you’re most excited for? results
[polldaddy poll=10488249]As a reminder, HRT has yet to reveal the songs that will compete on Saturday. Therefore this poll is based only on artists’ previous work, reputation and/or Eurovision connection. Snippets are due on the afternoon of Friday 28 February
Dora 2020: Voting, intervals and format
Dora 2020 will have four hosts. Zlata Mück Sušec and Doris Pinčić Rogoznica will present alongside Duško Čurlić and Mirko Fodor. The show will last two hours.
And in case you were wondering if Dora producers would be cutting down on intervals – the answer is no. Croatia’s 2019 singer Roko will perform his song “The Dream” and his most recent single “Krila”.
Despite initial confirmations that Eurovision 2018 winner Netta would perform in Opatija, she was forced to pull out due to flu.
Replacing the star will be this year’s finalist of The Voice Hrvatska. Four is better than one they say.
The voting format will remain the same as in 2019. The results will be determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from a regional jury of industry experts and the public vote.
The viewers at home will be able to vote via text, landlines and mobile phones with the voting lines open for ten minutes.

Do you agree with poll results? Will Lorena do one better and actually win? Let us know in the comments!
And yet this year we expected more from her
croatia needs to reconsider their format, i miss their 90s/00s entries (quality wise)
Well, every country has its bad years, they’ll improve
Speaking of Croatia’s semi: are all these debts the Ukrainian broadcaster has to pay something to be concerned about?
When you have haters, it means you are doing something right.
Aklea sounds promising and possibly different from what we have this year.
I just noticed she did a nice cover of Makeba, so I decided that if I can’t have Jain for Eurovision, then I want Aklea lol
I’m hoping the full songs and staging change my mind but the snippets do not excite me…. and I love Croatia
Just on the snippets…..if go with Indira….Shame I was hoping Lorena would have a bop
Here’s hoping the songs are good. Croatia need a rebound and the semi they’re in is looking increasingly stacked with quality.
Mia is the best and Aklea the worst, in my opinion.
I really dont like Akleas song, hopefully we wont choose it.

Here 🙂
Thank you so much x
Alen came through with that ethno bop though…
Aklea and Kedzo have REALLY good songs!! This might be really good year for Croatia! Half of the songs sounds in their selection already sound better than most whats out there for this years Eurovision.
Mia Negovetic sounds great and could easily enter the ESC top 5. Still, I wouldn’t discard Aklea Neon’s song as it sounds promising. As for the other snippets, they seem to be alright, but didn’t really attract my attention at this time, though they might surprise tomorrow. Let’s wait and see… 😉
Mia, Aklea or Lorena <3
Aklea Neon sounds fun.
I’m torn on whether to listen to the snippets at all. It’s so close to the contest I don’t even know if it makes any difference. I think they should have just let all songs out like a month ago or don’t let them out at all.
I’ll skip the snippets too, it’s just one day away. I just hope the streaming works for me tomorrow. Do you know what’s the direct link, Colin? Wiwi will post it later, but I wanted to save it here anyway.
Dragi ljudi, sutra dajmo glas jednoj od ove dvije divne cure: Mia ili Aklea. Ostali nas samo mogu ili osramotiti ili ce pak biti neprimijetni. Tocka!
Mia Negovetic sounds the best from this snippets , in my opinion.
Mia is the best <3
1. Aklea
2. Kedzo
3. Mia
4. Dino
5. Lorena
6. Indira
7. Zdenka
8. Bojan
…
I’ve just listened to the snippets at HR2 radio – errr, to be honest, two songs stand out and the rest is too mediocre to comment: the winner tomorrow gotta be either Aklea Neon with her catchy song Zovi Ju Mamma, and my second favourite is Mia Negovetic with a wonderful ballad that also seems to have a very dynamic chorus, but the snippets were too short to evaluate it well.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Aklea Neon as she sings in Croatian and her song make me dance straightforwardly…
