Are you happy to see MARO win Festival da Canção 2022? How do you think Portugal will do at Eurovision 2022? Let us know down below.
This video reaction to Portugal’s song is so beautiful. They are italians and get all emotional and start crying.
I’m obsessed now with this song. I can’t stop listening to it in repeat.
Stunning harmonies and such a warmth depth voice! I feel like hugging her every time I hear this beautiful song.
My favourite so far. Good luck in May!
This instrumental makes you feel the famous untranslatable portuguese word “saudade” even if you cannot understand it as foreign person. That is what makes this song a masterpiece.
straight to the final and top 5. Tasteful, elegant and moving song. Does not need complex staging.
Portugal will finish last in the semifinal. With 3 points. And I’m being very generous here.
Portugal never finished last in a semifinal and it won’t be this year either (especially with France and Switzerland voting there).
And being generous makes us fell better about ourselves.
Absolutely love this song. So hypnotic… This a masterpiece. No other song this year is as original and breathtaking as this. If it doesn’t get to the final and finishes in the top 5 it will be a big dissapointment. I feel jealous about our neighbours sending Saudade and Spain sending a reggeaton song…
What’s blatant here is that the people commenting an entry, whatever it is, are either originating from that very country or from a direct competing country (in terms of music, geographics, geopolitics etc.). Sterile nationalism is the worst thing ever…
What an embarrassing comment section, moderators should really do something about it ._. This is a great choice, and a lovely song. And, on a side note, two haters from Spain do not represent the rest of us. We love our neighbours, and we have a huge respect for their music. We follow Festival da Cançao every single year, and in fact, in 2022 we finally had the luck to be able to watch it online through RTVE and on television through TEN TV? … it was even trending here because people were so invested on it… stop with the… Read more »
Don’t worry, Mary, there’s a lot of picky people of every nationality online, and, to be fair, everyone is entitled to have their own opinion regarding the songs. People on this side of the border also need to learn how to take criticism. It’s not a big deal. Anyway, there’s no rivalry or desdain between Portugal and Spain (someone asked). I think pride is a better word. We have this imaginary line dividing us but we’re both iberians and share centuries of history in this little corner of the world (for good and bad). I honestly can’t tell the difference… Read more »
Gracias, Mary! We the Portuguese love our Spanish friends too. I personally hope that this year Spain will finally have a well deserved amazing result.
I’m Portuguese, and i know that as almost all Portuguese here, don’t worry!
Btw, Spain is on my top 5 this year, Benidorm fest was great!
We know 🙂
hmmmm yes interesting. I like this song, very hypnotic. I don’t like the voice of the main vocalist though, I find it really irritating, and feel I what to give her a good shake ! but all in all a good entry.
This is quite beautiful. I really like it to be honest.
Calling the moderators of this thread!
What is being written here about neighbour countries is just disrespectful and has nothing to do with singing.
Can’t blame the Portuguese at all for getting so passionate about this entry, this is pure melancholy, the way they know perfectly how to showcase, MARO’s got such a mesmerizing voice and captivating stage presence, the staging also feels like they don’t have to do too much to change it up for Torino (probably a smart move in hindsight to start off with her alone for the SF performance and then generate some more buzz with the improved final version). Maybe it’s just the fact I’ve already got a huge crush on her, but I really think this will all… Read more »
Result: Portugal not qualifying this year.
Portuguese response: saudade, saudade…
Estas en minoria bb, aceptalo
I’m having lucky streak
It’s weird that she is a solo singer yet the whole act feels like a band.
Portugal may surprise this year.. Now this is not my cup of tea, but there is something about this that feels a bit magic, a bit different. It also feels a bit incomplete if that makes sense? Still, I think it will make the final, and go left hand side. It may do a Black Mumba, with the juries giving it over 100 points and the televote much less, but I think about 100 points and left hand side. I don’t really love this, I like it, but it’s got a great vibe. 7/10 for me, based purely on taste.
Love Maro’s song and voice. She’s going to do well in Eurovision, cause there’s something so pure, unique and organic about this performance that I cannot imagine juries not loving it, at least from the juries with some criteria.
By the way, I’m spanish and I don’t get all the supposed hatred we profess to Portugal. Guess some try to generalize behaviours cause they don’t have enough arguments to deffend themselves…
Spanish people hate Portuguese?
Of course not. This is about a few people who feel comfortable speaking on behalf of an entire nation to release their poison.
Such a beautiful song. Well done Portugal. Love from Greece 🙂
Russian state propaganda intends to break relationship between Portugal and the people in Spain.
😀 If you read some of the comments here you would certainly think so. But Russia couldn’t care less, so do both peoples who are friends and neighbors and have a common history together.
With all this hate i’m sure Portugal is safe this year!!
Keep doing you Portugal!!
Well done! Top 10 material… 🙂
This for me is a quality entry! I am portuguese and i was thrilled when i knew that Maro won, because for me was the most interesting choice! And Maro is a really good artist, she work with some really awesome musicians in the industry! The work that she has with Jacob Collier is so good! For me this a really good song, the lyrics, the music is very nice! If it suits Eurovision, it´s a bit hard to say! A one week show it ´s not enough to see the potential! A phenomenal competition, with so much history, but… Read more »
LMAO wth with all of the Spanish hate towards the Portuguese?
Frustration and envy for not winning since 1969 and for finishing in the bottom 10 every year since 2015. So they turn their hatred to their smaller neighbour Portugal (an easy target), especially when they see that their neighbour is getting some love from the community.
Your comment can’t be more ignorant. Spain is MUCH more beloved than Portugal. Just wait until May and you will see the “love” Portugal will get…
Let’s not be delusional for once. Hasn’t 2019 taught us anything?
Honey, the only delusional fans are the hysterical, hateful and rude fans from Spain, like every year. Leave Portugal alone!
Well, even though I understand the Spanish are delighted about finally having a decent entry that seems like it could actually turn their very poor form around, I have to admit I’m not that excited about Chanel’s hypnotic booty and will be voting for insanely cute MARO instead…
I must admit I’m biased as I have never once in all these years liked any Portuguese entry – and their appalling track record shows I’m not the only one – but this really is so forgettable and poor, even in a weak year I can’t see this, IMO, qualify.
If you cannot find a least 1 single song you like from 1964 until 2022 (that’s 53 entries) then you’re quite right: the problem is you.
Catherine would you please stop commenting on every person that doesn’t like your entry? You are extremely impolite.
Not anybody loves the same songs. And I know for sure I don’t like the Portuguese entry.
Lol. Based on a lot of the hate comments i have seen from you i dont think you should be calling anybody impolite.
Se nota que eres fabulosa
Many said that about Black Mamba or Salvador who btw won… in case you forgot, which is more than still many countries can say about themselves
This sure is a weak year, but even this year Protugal won’t qualify with this atrocity.
Downvote me honeys if you want. I will come here after the SF to rub it in your face. Can’t wait for this moment.
Honey, if it doesn’t qualify no harm done. Quality remains quality, which is more than can be said about your existence
Bye bye Lusophobe.
You’re rude . Even ir you don’t like the song, and that”s fine because it’s your opinion, you do have to respect other ‘s…..
I stongly recomend the chat moderator to block this person
Why so much hate?…
Maybe his hate is only a sort of reaction to the aggressivness shown by Portuguese fans here. Portugal used to be one of my favourite ESC-countries a long time ago but, unfortunately, has become one of the most boring ESC-countries, sending the same type of song year after year. You can downvote me as much as you want, but for me “Saudade, saudade” is not a masterpiece, it’s just another boring song from Portugal.
Fair enough. Not everybody has the same taste. I for once find the Spanish entries much more boring. No one has attracted my attention since Pastora Soler. What I find astonishing is that you were a fan of the Portuguese entries in a time when they were much more boring and without any quality…
Beautiful. My new no 1. Thank you Portugal for bringing some soul to this event once again
Great top 5. I think my will be similar
I loved The Black Mamba instantly last year, but this feels kinda… there for me, not my taste and a little boring. Maybe with some impactful staging like last year this could make the finals.
Don’t feel sad about the downvotes EProduc. Everyone who believes it can score well is delusional.
I feel like whenever you critique something in this comment section you will get those downvotes even if you mean no harm and just state your opinion without insulting anybody… that is quite sad…
Even though I disagree with you, I still upvoted your comment because you were respectful. And because it’s your taste! Sending love your way, from a Portuguese bean 🙂
My two cents: I am happy and surprised that this song was picked up, in spite of not being my fav. I think it is very telling that the public picked it over other much well established artists and more mainstream songs. I do thing that with the right concept on stage it can be a very nice ESC moment. Will be it enough for qualification? I don’t think so. 🙁 It’s not competitive enough. I am fearing it will be Iceland and Finland 2017 or Portugal/Austria 2019 again. Great songs, but that don’t have enough pulling factor to make… Read more »
I love this song! This is quality and authenticity! Portugal is always so underrated!
Portugal is just Portugal… So hispter, so sad, so poor, so “poetry” (no offense)
“No offense”. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
You’re ridiculous! (no offense).
Thank you! I take the opinion of who comes from 😉
Typical Spanish xenophobe, this Sebastian dude.
That absurd generalization does not put you in a better place. Perhaps it is that you resemble a little what you criticize.
If you want to say to Sebastian how silly he is ( because it’s true, he is ), don’t put all of us in the same bag.
I will continue to think that Portuguese are wonderful people and that we have many things in common as Iberians, despite your unfortunate comments.
Can you explain what do have against Portugal? So “poor”? This is sounding really racist now…
if he is from Spain he should know Spain has the poorest regions in Iberian Peninsula
what a poor and hatefull comment….best wishes for you honey 🙂
Sometimes I look at this staging and think “this needs major help”, sometimes I feel “this is giving me ByeAlex-Kedvesem lowkey cool vibes that just needs to come as it is”.
Oh dear lord Portugal…I understand that some may find this terrible boring. But just like last year i really love thé portuguese entry. Yess Portugal….well done !!!
Yes you will need some accreditation pass in order to enter press centre as security checks that upon arrival to the centre
My current top 10
It’s such a poor year that you could have swapped your top six with the bottom six … And wouldn’t even notice the difference!!! Really hard to see who could win this year…
Mr X: I have almost the same top 5 and bottom 5 (except for Sweden which I’ve included in my top 5 and Slovenia that I’ve included in my bottom 5) 🙂 As to my very personal tastes, I really prefer Portugal over Spain this year. Note that I’m neither Spanish nor Portuguese… and I love both countries!
What a boring year…
I don’t forget the song of 2018. It was so emotional and it spoke right into your heart but the second singer wasn’t necessary and it kinda destroyed it. Claudia was very good and didn’t need the other girl.
Btw both songs are about losing someone u love but jardim was better and more emotional.
Absolutely disagree. Jardim was going nowhere, yes Claudia is good and did her best but song was weak. Maro’s is another thing completely, well composed and a mood of its own. It was not my favourite from this selection, but I need to admit the best won.
Read more »
(commentary in spanish) A ver, Miguel. Read more »
HAHAHAHAHAH! Is there any academic institution out there who can give Sebastian a Honoris Causa PhD in Cultural Stereotypes? Sebastian deserves it and more! Let’s give Sebastian the whole Portuguese territory for him to fix it. Sebastian is the only one who can rescue this decaying nation from the filthy hands of the hipster brigade. Sebastian is our saviour! Sebastian is our king! Long live Sebastian!
(it’s funny ‘cos it’s true: we’re waiting for you, man! ahahahah)
Que tonterias!!! Portugal fracassado??…
? Excuse me, Portugal won in 2017, they were 12th in the final last year… I would say they have done much better than Spain at Eurovision with their old Festival da Canção! …
Read more »
Read more »
I ADORE THIS!
Portugal is always classy when it comes to picking their ESC entries, but very often comes out as too pretentious. I honestly hated their 2021 entry because of that. This song is something in between, very classy, a little bit pretentious, but lovely overall ‘cause of Maro and that great recording.
Love it love it love it! Top 5 for me!
Maro che due palle!
Maros voice and her style of singing are very warm and soothing. I am a sucker for great harmonies which Maro and her backings are delivering perfectly. Unfortunatley the song itself doesnt do anything for me… I think its a bit boring… sorry.
I am sorry, I dont speak your language so I had to “Google translate” it to get a glimpse of what you are saying. From what I understood I get your point but a show like Eurovision and its participating songs have to be entertaining in some kind of way. Otherwise people stop listening. Every song causes an emotion. If it makes me sad, happy, wanna dance, melancholic, nostalgic or whatever you can feel than its a good song and in the end keeps me entertained. One of the exceptions is boredom. If a song bores me I wont listen… Read more »
Read more »
They did it again!! Portugal send quality one more time! Don´t care about the results but I think Portugal could qualify…even without Spain, France and Uk voting in 1st semi final
Good luck! 🙂
France and Switzerland are allowed to vote in the first semi final. Both countries have a huge portuguese community.
I am sorry but this song doesn’t go anywhere.. very bland voice backed up with layers of backing vocals.. nothing special at all.. sorry
A bit like you
This is Low Key!! But…high impact on your soul if u r ready to listen what she is singing!
The song is about the feeling of losing someone…death, a relationship…doesn’t matter! For Maro was about losing her grandfather, but we all can make the song our own…
Amazing, i think we will see a lot of covers! The song is special
sorry but serbia and norway in top 5 is very bad the songs are horrible
those last three are questionable sorry
It’s a portuguese entry, what else?
Classy, classy, classy.
Becoming in love.
A Portuguese entry, of course. Boring as usual.
Benji is the perfect example of a boring ESC fan. The brainless type of fan.
After having read your superintelligent comment, I have completely changed my mind: Now I believe that the Portuguese entry is the sure winner of ESC.
Good voice, but the song has no structure, nothing to grip me in. A sure NQ.
The Black Mamba were also a sure NQ, let’s not forget that.
What a beautiful song, one of my favourites in this year’s contest
Finally this year have a really good level!
When I booked those plane tickets to Lisbon for may 2023 looks like I was just throwing my money away…
Can you actually book plane tickets that early though?
Don’t worry there’s World Youth Day in May 2023 lol
I really like his song and his softness in his grain of voice, Portugal is one of my favorites this year. It’s calm and with a captivating voice!
There is something for everyone, and I find that it is not boring because for me it is as bewitching and moving to listen to it as Salvador Sobral!!
FORCA PORTUGAL !!
