Eurovision artists are multi-talented. Not only can they sing, but many are also charismatic dancers. Two of Latvia’s Eurovision alum are demonstrating just this on the new season of Dejo ar zvaigzni (Dancing with the Stars), where celebrities compete in the art of ballroom and Latin dancing.

Aminata and Jānis Pētersons, lead singer of Citi Zēni, have safely progressed past the first elimination of the season.

Aminata and Jānis Pētersons compete on Dejo ar zvaigzni 2022

Dejo ar zvaigzni returns to TV screens in 2022 after seven years, having last aired in 2015. The line-up features Eurovision 2015 star Aminata as well as Jānis Pētersons, who fronts Eurovision 2022 group Citi Zēni.

Both singers have now taken to the dancefloor on two occasions. The judges scores from both weeks were combined together and the public were able to have their say after the second episode, when the first elimination of the season took place.

Thankfully, both Aminata and Jānis were declared safe and will be able to progress to the next show.

Aminata has had two contrasting dances so far, performing the cha-cha-cha and waltz with her professional partner Makss Kravčenko. During episode one, the jury — composed of Iļju Vlasenko, Martu Kalēju-Irbi and Jāni Purviņu — reminded the “Love Injected” singer that dancing is not just steps, but also emotions and soul.

Aminata put their notes to work in her second go around, with the jury glad to see the Eurovision star dancing with more confidence for her waltz. For the second show, Inga Krasovska replaced Jāni Purviņu on the judges panel.

Meanwhile, alongside professional dancer Olena Čerekova, Jānis Pētersons has kept up the lively persona that Eurovision fans grew to love in Turin. The “Eat Your Salad” singer has delivered fast and energetic performances of the jive and cha-cha-cha, both of which have placed him towards the top of the leaderboard.

Jānis has a background in traditional Latvian folk dancing, something that the jury noted he needed to shake off when performing the different styles of ballroom and Latin. But the Citi Zēni member has still proven to be one to watch in the competition, with his cha-cha-cha earning him the season’s first individual jury score of nine (out of ten).
