In the early hours of Sunday morning, we’ll finally know who will be representing Portugal at Eurovision in Liverpool. All 13 acts in the Festival da Canção 2023 grand final are vying for the ticket, but only one will be able to walk away with it.

At the start of this week, we asked you to let us know your favourites from the acts who are left.

We received 3,159 votes in our poll. After counting and verifying, we can now reveal the results.

Mimicat is a favourite to win Portugal’s Festival da Canção 2023

It was a close race between three acts during the early stages of our poll. But in the end, Mimicat managed to pull ahead and emerges as our readers’ favourite. She was already a pre-contest favourite, winning our semi-final 1 poll as well. But Mimicat’s spirited performance at the semi-final has only cemented her place as the act many are rooting for.

Her entry “Ai Coração” secured a strong 35.04% of all the votes cast — that’s 1,107 votes specifically.

Following in second place is Cláudia Pascoal. Portugal’s Eurovision 2018 star is back at Festival da Canção with the aim of reaching Eurovision once again and improving upon her previous last-place finish.

Cláudia will be opening the show on Saturday with “Nasci Maria”. Many of our readers will be kicking things off with one of their favourites, as she picked up 658 votes (20.83% of the total).

The final spot on the podium goes to semi-final 2 favourite Edmundo Inácio. He’s been given a prime running order slot of #12. Four of the last five Festival da Canção winners have performed in the penultimate slot during the grand final, so it could be a good omen.

Regardless, Edmundo also has a lot of support behind him. In our poll he earned 440 votes, which is 13.93% of the total.

Full results: Who should win Portugal’s Festival da Canção 2023?

  1. Mimicat – “Ai Coração” – 35.04%, 1,107 votes
  2. Cláudia Pascoal – “Nasci Maria” – 20.83%, 658 votes
  3. Edmundo Inácio – “A Festa” – 13.93%, 440 votes
  4. Bárbara Tinoco – “Goodnight” – 6.27%, 198 votes
  5. You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown – “Contraste Mudo” – 5.38%, 170 votes
  6. Neon Soho – “Endless World” – 4.02%, 127 votes
  7. Ivandro – “Povo” – 3.83%, 121 votes
  8. INÊS APENAS – “Fim do Mundo” – 2.91%, 92 votes
  9. Voodoo Marmalade – “Tormento” – 2.72%, 86 votes
  10. Churky – “Encruzilhada” – 1.58%, 50 votes
  11. Esse Povo – “Sapatos de Cimento” – 1.39%, 44 votes
  12. Sal – “Viver” – 1.23%, 39 votes
  13. DAPUNKSPORTIF – “World Needs Therapy” – 0.85%, 27 votes

Total Votes: 3,159

Is Mimicat also your pick to win Festival da Canção 2023? Who would give Portugal the best result at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

You can’t win Charlie Brown should be the winner tonight , surprising enough with all these rock, metal, pop , novelty, indie, uptempo, dance songs in Eurovision this one would stand out immensely and there is nothing like it. The audience in the arena and folks voting from home , might just be captivated by this song. You don’t need props and screens and dancers to captivate the attention, with all these songs the power of music tells its story . A repeat of 2017 could be in the cards . The song is beautiful. If I was in Portugal… Read more »

I still can’t believe Effie Trinket is shooting her at Eurovision after Katniss overthrows President Snow and ends the Hunger Games.
With that being said, I actually haven’t keeping tabs with Festival da Cançao and would rather wait who wins, but I’m willing to bet it goes down to her or Claudia Pascoal

Unlike the Swedish one, the Portuguese voting sequence will actually be thrilling to watch. If you ask fans, it’s a three-way race between Mimicat, Claudia, and Edmundo, but I wouldn’t put aside the possibility that someone else might win. In 2021, Portugal had a completely unexpected winner, so it can happen again. My gut feeling tells me it will be Edmundo in the end. Not only that he is positioned to perform penultimate, but his song has the lyrical layers and a mixture of modern and traditional sounds people in Portugal usually like. For the same reasons, if he and… Read more »

I am Portuguese and I am voting for Mimicat! It’s that kind of song that makes me really happy and has the power to switch my mood almost immediately. It’s fun, catchy and very Portuguese. Even though I know it’s not the typical entry you’d expect from Portugal, I think we can prove that our country is not only melancholia and sadness. And believe me, I am huge ballads’ fan ? But, Mimicat has it all. The voice, the charisma, the attitude. Above all, she’s a great performer. For those still in doubt, just watch her tomorrow! Ai ??, you’ve… Read more »

You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown have been my favourites the whole time and I really hope they can pull this off (although I don’t think they are favourites to do so). Maybe there’s a path where they win televote and have strong but not too 3 televote, who knows? Anyway, looking forward to final regardless as such a strong year!

I think Mimicats song is really boring and predictable.. I LOVE Contraste Mudo by You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown! One of the most beautiful songs this year from any of the National finals! I wish it could win, but I don’t think the majority agrees with me. That being said, Maro won last year with the beautiful Saudade, Saudade (my big favorite last year, and now one of my all time favorites), and she wasn’t a poll-favorite at Wiwibloggs either. Fim du Mundo by Inês Alena’s is also really good, although I didn’t really like the styling and performance at… Read more »

I confess I’m not sure what is going to happen tomorrow night in Portugal. I think Cláudia is out of the race. Never saw her doing well with the jury, and since she is perfoming first, maybe will not be that high on televote as well. I’m kinda scared with Ivandro. He can surprise with the juries and televote, even though I think the act is kinda boring and the song not strong at all. I bet the final race will be between Mimicat and Edmundo. A tie, like in 2021?? I’m rooting for Mimicat 🙂 May the best win… Read more »

I completely agree with you. Mimicat and Edmundo are ok, but these songs are all easy NQ from semi 1. I don’t know is there any hype or a small coherent group of fans is making like there is something there.

Maro and The Black Mamba were also NQs, according to the same prophets of disgrace. Even Salvador Sobral was seen as a clear NQ by fans clueless fans.

I said only Black Mamba should be an NQ. Portugal was favored by a jury every time and countries that traditionally vote for them. Now you don’t have a jury, don’t have Spain and you have the strongest competition in the last 10 years, with six countries (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Serbia, Czechia, Israel) almost 100% going through, with Moldova which is often a fan favorite, Netherlands, Switzerland and Azerbaijan which almost always go through and that’s already 10. Croatia is completely unpredictable, and they have a fan base outside of Eurovision all across Europe, and a big fanbase in Serbia,… Read more »

The Black Mamba were 5th with the televote in their semifinal and Maro was 6th in her semifinal so both qualified comfortably and without the help from the juries.Even Suzy would have qualified comfortably in 2014 if it weren’t for the juries so your argument makes no sense. Besides, what is “nothing special” for you doesn’t mean others feel or think the same.

They would have qualified, but I don’t remember the last time Portugal got more points from televote compared to jury. This year there is no jury and the competition is harder. In the end, we will see relatively soon.

By the way, Portugal doesn’t have Spain but has France and Switzerland voting in Semi 1, those are actually the countries that award Portugal with the most televote points, historically.

The opening of Mimicat sounds as though she is about to start singing i will survive. Not a criticism but in grabs your attention instantly. Good choreo as well as remaining traditionally Portugal. If she does win she will grab the attention of other Eurovision nations. Good luck.

I don’t think Mimicat will win as she has been overhyped. The Portuguese will go for something more soother that represents them…or Cláudia. Bad that she has been given slot one in the final!

I don’t think that I am especially intrigued by Mimicat’s or Edmundo’s songs and performances but they are by no means bad. Nasci Maria has been playing on repeat in my brain for some time now, but overall I also can’t say that I like this song as a whole (and especially the performance). My winner as of now is You can’t win Charlie Brown and I also quite enjoy Ines Apenas’ song. Fingers crossed for them even if a win by them would be a surprise.

It looks like it’s going to be Mimicat vs Edmundo at this point. I would be fine with either of those, plus the Charlie Brown band and Voodoo Marmalade, any of these entries would be top 5 in the Liverpool lineup for me. Portugal is always improving the overall level of the contest while too many other countries are disrespecting it and doing the bare minimum.

Many interesting songs! Edmundo, YCWCB, and INES APENAS are for me best songs/performances.
