Completely off topic, but does anyone have the slightest idea why Georgia’s song disappeared today from Spotify? Am I too hopeless to think that they are reworking the lyrics? Armenia is also finally up on Spotify, and San Marino is the only remaining song to be uploaded (not that I care about the latter).

Ooo, we have a mystery in our midst. How exciting! Reddit has all sorts of theories. Some are saying the song is still available on Spotify in Germany, others are assuming that the lyrics are getting a re-vamp. However, a “source” apparently close to Georgia’s team says that the song will go through no changes whatsoever. But the boring explanation is usually the most accurate, and that is: There was a technical glitch. 🙂

Alright, here’s where I might humiliate myself 🙂 I’m putting a lot of trust in Iru as an artist and songwriter that maybe she doesn’t deserve, but I think the lyrics are actually good. I see enough signposts that I’m willing to go with my gut. I think the imprecision of language is the true subject of the song. “Words getting worthless/love is a wordless [thing]” is the the key here. Iru anticipates the criticism that the song is meaningless, and then she tells you why it’s written the way it is. Love is the thing that is “known… like… Read more »

Hey, no humiliation at all. You’ve found your own interpretation and way to connect to the lyrics and I can appreciate that! And I can see it working this way. The way it could invite us to go beyond words, the fact that the feelings described are hard to put into words and then are meaningless, it makes a lot of sense from your perspective. I’m not a native English speaker so perhaps my perspective would be different, but I really appreciate what you’ve been doing there. I love the song regardless, but thank you for that interpretation, it’s really… Read more »

There are a lot of bands and duos this year, and that’s interesting. My favorites are probably Austria, Latvia, and Czechia. Still, a lot of good songs in this batch. I’d like for Let 3 to qualify too.

Sidenote. The running order will be revealed tomorrow. Care to make a final prediction on who will open the whole show? I still say Ireland should, but if the producers have been listening to the song feedback then it probably won’t be.

I’m predicting Malta to open SF1, if not them, Ireland. And Belgium to open SF2, if not them, Iceland.

Belgium would be good for SF2, I can’t see it being Iceland.

I think it’s definitely gonna be Belgium. But Iceland is a song that starts to grow until the chorus and is mostly upbeat, I could see that structure works very well as an opener. And realistically, I don’t see any other song apart from these two opening SF2.

That was the first year the draw was abolished, with the producers deciding… maybe the thinking was different back then. France opening the final that year was also not what I would have picked.

Malta or maybe Portugal for semi 1. Ireland is too bland to open the show but who knows? Israel to close semi 1. Belgium is almost a certainty to open semi 2 and I predict Slovenia to close – their odds crashed suddenly today and they are up to 22nd from 30th place so someone might know something.

Ireland is bland, I just think the lyrics are perfect for the whole theme they’re going for, especially this year.

Fair point although previous years have shown that they seem to care more about the tempo of the songs and the staging, rather than the actual lyrics.

SEMI 1:

  1. Norway
  2. Ireland

  9. Netherlands
  10. Finland

I know it’s really boring to point this out, but any act that requires more than 60 seconds to set up usually either goes first or after a mid-interval break. In SF1, it is perhaps possible that Sweden will need one of these slots if it’s bringing its giant hamburger. The only other challenging one to set up for SF1 might be Croatia (group, costumes and props). SF2 is a bit staging-heavy and band-heavy all round, so best of luck to the stage crew with that one.

It’s only a week ago there was an article here about Loreen’s staging maybe not going to Liverpool as it is now, so maybe they still don’t know. Exceptions have been made before, where the hosts pop up before a song to fill in while everything is sorted and in place. For example, Sweden 2015, Sweden 2017, Sweden 2018, and others. Maybe that’s just the final, though.

I think Romania is more likely to go second in the second semi than Iceland is. I’d say either Belgium or Iceland is probably going to open. Australia might close it, but I think Slovenia and Australia would be good options for that too. Sweden is obviously going to be getting a favorable spot in the second half of the first semi. It’ll be one of the last 3 to perform. I will be surprised if anyone other than Ireland performs 2nd. Norway is the most likely opener but Malta could do it too. Portugal could be a fun one… Read more »

I think that Germany will do surprisingly well with the televoting this year. Pretty much along the lines of the televoting results of Hatari/AWS/Blind Channel, which means they are in a good place to finally get a Top 10 result after years. I’m definitely rooting for Lord of the Lost and will most likely vote for Germany in the final.
