They are the closest country geographically to the Eurovision city of Malmö, and they won the contest the last time Malmö hosted in 2013. On Saturday we will find out who Denmark will send over the Öresund Bridge to defend the red and white colours, so we asked you readers who your favourite was among the 8 entries.

Now the results are in and it was a convincing victory in our poll for the bookmakers’ favourite Saba and her entry “Sand”, who got 589 votes or 43.15% of the total votes. In second place came Aura Dione with “Mirrorball of Hope” getting 273 votes or 20.00% and in third we find Eurovision alum Basim and “Johnny” with 139 votes or 10.18%.

Results of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 poll

  1. Saba – “Sand” – 589 votes – 43.15%
  2. Aura Dione – “Mirrorball Of Hope” – 273 votes – 20.00%
  3. Basim – “Johnny” – 139 votes – 10.18%
  4. RoseeLu – “Real Love” – 114 votes – 8.35%
  5. CHU CHU – “The Chase (Zoom Zoom)” – 86 votes – 6.30%
  6. UBLU – “Planetary Hearts” – 83 votes – 6.03%
  7. Janus Wiberg – “I Need Your Love” – 44 votes – 3.22%
  8. Stella – “Sign Here” – 37 votes – 2.71%

Total votes: 1,365

So Saba won DMGP…I’m afraid we have the same problem as last year (Reily)…good song in studio but a singer incapable of singing it live on stage…listen carefully and 75% of all the singing you hear in the live performance are backing vocals drowning out her (not great) vocal. She cannot seem to sing in the lower register at all that’s why the beginning sounds so underwhelming. All the blinding lights (and there were many) in the world cannot disguise this cover-up. Poor vetting by Denmark again.

And as with every other year, their best song will not advance to the super final.

Denmark has given up in the contest after 2020
, “Say Yes!” was their last good entry in Eurovision. And that year was cancelled as well, lol.

All of these songs are so bland (including Sand). I don’t know what’s happened to Denmark since they last hosted, but it’s been very underwhelming with them

Love Is Forever, Cliché Love Song, Higher Ground and (if it counts) Yes were good.

Really average line-up. This is what we can expect from DMGP after all these years of questionable bland poppy songs. “The Show” by REDDI is the only song that was actually interesting in recent years.

It’s like none of them are very bad but they fall too in the middle. All of them sound like Melo fillers at best. I get this has to be the music industry in the Scandinavian countries. Norway is miles above its neighbours, even though Sweden always manages to get one very strong song.

Really poor selection from Denmark. Hard to see any of these songs making it to the final

I didn’t like it at first but now it’s a grower on Spotify. With a big sand hourglass or castle structure with Tatoo like staging, this could win and go to Eurovision.

It would be quite funny if Denmark somehow manage to win given they won last time Sweden hosted in Malmo! If so this would be the funniest winning song name!
