We now know all the songs that are set to compete at Eurovision 2025. France were the last country to reveal their entry, “maman,” performed by Louane.

The multi-platinum selling artist premiered her song with a live performance on Saturday. This was done as a special half-time event during France’s final match of the Six Nations Rugby Tournament at the Stade de France.

Louane – “maman” (France Eurovision 2025)

Louane was accompanied by a marching band whilst performing from an elevated platform. The overall performance was designed to cater for those in the arena audience as well as people watching from home.

France’s Head of Delegation for Eurovision, Alexandra Redde-Amiel, has confirmed that the staging at Eurovision 2025 will be “very different” from that seen during the premiere performance.

From winning a César Award for Most Promising Actress to topping the French charts to winning fans on The Voice of France, Louane has a storied career already. But she sees Eurovision as a way to honour her mother, who dreamed of seeing Louane in the song contest. Sadly, the French star lost both of her parents while she was still a teenager.

PRESS RELEASE

To represent France at Eurovision 2025, Louane returns with an intimate, powerful and universal song: ‘Maman’. It’s a moving song, full of life, that transcends time, generations and emotions. Louane will carry the hopes of an entire country to the Eurovision 2025 Grand Final on 17 May in Basel, Switzerland.

In simple but deeply moving words, Louane recounts the journey of a lifetime: that of a child who became a woman, of a daughter who became a mother. ‘Maman’ is a timeless declaration of love, a suspended dialogue between past and present, between absence and transmission. The soft, airy melody gives way to raw emotion. Carried by Louane’s unique voice, somewhere between fragility and strength, the song is in the tradition of the great ballads whose sincerity unites the audience.

With ‘Maman’, Louane offers us much more than just a song: a moment of truth, a hymn to love, an echo of everyone’s experience. A declaration to France and Europe.

Louane said:

“‘maman’, my song for l’Eurovision 2025, is finally available everywhere! This track is so special and I hope you love it as much as I do. Thank you for your amazing support… can’t wait for the rest!”

Alexandra Redde-Amiel, Director of Entertainment and Games at France Télévisions and head of the French Eurovision delegation, said:

“Maman! A song that touches the heart! Revealed in a magical place between heaven and earth! The Stade de France. Timeless, it stands the test of time.

With maman, Louane gives us much more than a powerful, inspiring song: she reveals a part of herself, without artifice, without superfluity. It’s a hymn, a declaration of love to life, to the passing of time and to the most universal and powerful figure in the world: a mother! She chose to open her heart without restraint, with authenticity and generosity, to reach out to European families.

How proud we are to bring such a special song to the international stage with such a genuine artist.”

What are your thoughts on Louane’s “maman”? Will France be in the running to win Eurovision 2025? Let us know in the comments.

As a French, I tell myself that “Mom” is an easy word to understand, regardless of the language. We are targeting family audiences, there are already enough countries that have bet on nightclub dance.

Apart from that I have a little crush on Latvia and the song of Tautumeitas. It’s not good news for them, my favorites never win.

Israel is okay good, but for the sake of the contest it really shouldn’t win.

now that all the songs are out, here are my Eurovision semi Running Order predictions. I’m not expecting them to be 100% accurate to the real running orders, and it’s also not set in stone for I could change things around later. How would you organize the semifinals?

Openers are usually light poppy songs, and Ireland is that in spades. I don’t think Armenia or Australia would be good choices as openers because they are too intense/much to the show without scaring people off. What’s your ideal running order?

In interviews Louane sounds like she wants to pay homage to her departed mom by representing France. A worthy goal. However she does not come off as if she is driven to win. The song is decent but not among France’s best this decade. I cannot remember it after 3 listens – I could see this finishing 16th through 22nd. My favorite French language entry is intact, Zoë representing Switzerland, at #1.

Largely overrated by the bookies. Too much hyped by French broadcaster. Sorry, this is a booooooooooring song, felt asleep while listening to it. Juries will maybe impressed, but the public vote will be a real disaster. This song does not reach Barbara Pravis level, neither Slimanes level.

Random viewers on the GF night won’t know/care whether it was hyped by the broadcaster or high up in the odds, they will only react to the 3 minutes delivered by Louane, who is defo a strong performer, she’s been in show-business for more than a decade, she’s by far the most famous singer this year and will probably manage to connect to a wide European audience, she’s achieved it before + France has as much budget as it gets and knows how to stage and elevate power ballads. It’s undeniably stunning and a song with big potential but if ‘Voilà’ and ‘Mon Amour couldn’t win I don’t see why this could. It’s not better than those songs, it lacks the instant impact Barbara and Slimane brought. A top 5 finish will be difficult in my opinion. It’s an open year though, which I love, so everything is still possible. If she has groundbreaking staging it might be top 3.

Definitely not better than Voilà, that’s a fact. But a thousand times better than Mon Amour. Slimane had that “wow” effect : a few steps away from the mic to show his powerful vocals. But the song, compared to his others, is just average. Maman is a strong contender. Beautiful and meaningful lyrics, wonderful voice, a lot of emotions. Louane has a better entry than Slimane. Actually, the fist “Maman” was written when she wasn’t feeling good after her mother’s passing. The seconde one, “maman”, is a cathartic way to telle her mother she’s ok now in her life as a woman and as a mother herself.

I read she and her team delete the first one, as she won’t sing it anymore and that she wanted to focus on more positive feelings. I think it’s a smart way to move forward, considering having a heavy background story with the loss of her two parents when she was a teen.

Maman was indeed one of her first songs.
It was about her mother who sadly passed away.
This song is also called Maman, but is actually an answer or a sequel to the first one, now that Louane herself is a mother.

“I feel better I know where I’m heading
I’ve stopped counting years
And if I’ve wanted to freeze time
Now I’m the one that’s called “Maman”

Definitely strong.
Enough for the Victory ?
Probably not.

It’s quite frustrating: the voice, the melody and the lyrics are beautiful… But why are you trying so hard at the end of the song? It’s just overdramatic, and not as touching as it should be.
The emotion would be so much stronger if there were more subtlety and restraint in certain passages, a whispered voice over piano rather than a full orchestra and Louane’s voice at full power.
I appreciate the efforts of the French delegation, but sometimes less is more.

The song itself is not too badeven if not winner material by any stretch of immagination. The biggest issue, however, is the presentation of it which is so awkward it verges on being a meme. How did they come to the conclusion that a marching band, bizarrely timed pyro that makes her look like she is burning alive and aimlessly dangling on the tiniest platform ever against a backdrop of rope wearing the most shapeless outfit ever in any way supports the actual meaning of the song? I’m really happy for Louane and I hope she can enjoy ESC. I’ve been a fan of Louane’s for many years, so it’s a bit difficult for me to be objective in reviewing “Maman”. I love this entry. I hope they give it a staging that is both intimate and impactful, as France did with Barbara Pravi and Slimane. The anticipation was high but as usual it didn’t transform to excitement.

It’s a typical French ballad, a bit repetitive (I can’t count the number of times she says “maman”). She can sing well (if that was live) but for me, that’s about it.

Unless we see a superb staging and very powerful performance (which we didn’t see much today), it’s probably a Top-10 or Top-15.

Good luck, France!

You knew this reply was coming… I have an answer to the lyric counts. 🙂

“Maman” is in the song 17 times. 16 times the lyric is sung by Louane herself, and one time at the end of the song, the lyric is sung by her daughter Esmee.
Evidently Esmee won’t be allowed on the ESC stage for real, so Louane will probably have to sing it anyhow. So, it’s 17 times.

And I’d argue that’s it’s already a powerful performance because the song is deeply personal (yes, you knew this was coming) 😀
I’m too sentimental, that’s my issue

You are sentimental and thats nice but i feel more touched by JJ or Yuphal Rafael. Not this one. Its amazing how different people feel differently about the same things. Thats the power of music and art.

I´m absolutely not touched by JJ. I can´t stand this voice. Zoe from Switzerland is my favourite ans Klavdia from Greece

I doubt this will beat Slimane’s result; it’s more like Patricia Kaas territory. For me, the winner is either Austria or the Czech Republic.

No Sweden. They failed in their national final.

Nice song but I don’t think it’s gonna win. Not when even Barbara Pravi couldn’t.

2025 is definitely not a ‘grand cru’ and this one just confirms it …

And with that, our Eurovision 2025 lineup is complete. Funny how France was the first country to drop their song in 2024, and now this year they’re the last. Now I can do the hard work of making my running order predictions, my qualifying predictions, and my overall ranking of all 37 songs.

I believe this is probably the most linguistically diverse edition since the language rule was lifted in 1999. 21 songs completely in national languages, 10 in English where it’s not the national language, five bilingual, and one trilingual.

You’re welcome. I plan to do a study on tracking the number of languages per Eurovision since 1999. The rule was to see if 25 is the most logically diverse in the 21st-century, or if something else beats it.

Louane was one of my top 10 played artists on 2024 on Spotify, and I’m British, so I’ve been excited for this and she’s not disappointed me.

Simple, mais magnifique. Bonne chance, France !

This has been a really disappointing year in terms of music. The worst since 2017. ‘Asteromata’ and ‘Zjerm’ have held steady in my Top 5 for weeks and weeks now; that never happens during unveiling season when new songs constantly replace the old. ‘Lighter’ has been my only real “grower”. In terms of winner I really don’t know what will happen but I’d like to see Erika take the trophy back to Helsinki. I wouldn’t mind the Swiss holding onto it either. The rest…

Wasted Love, Zjerm, Espresso Macchiato, Ich Komme, Baller, C’est La Vie, Bara Bada Bastu, Maman, Kiss Kiss Goodbye, Tutta l’Italia, Tavo Akys, Voyage, Strobe Lights, Volevo Essere Un Duro and Gaja sounds like a good year to me. Far more bangers than all 2000s except 2009, better than 2010, 2011, 2012 (carried by Loreen), 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Well, 2025 was one thing going for it and that it is probably the most linguistically diverse Eurovision in a long time since the language rule was lifted in 1999. You can’t say that about 2017, which only had four songs that didn’t contain any English lyrics at all and one of them ended up winning the whole damn thing.

After the third listen, I loved the song. I did not like the concept of the performance; Louane looked scared, and there were no emotions, but she nailed it live. I have 100% trust in the Swedish stage director. The song needs a big emotional staging to elevate it and convey its meaning to the European audience. This year doesn’t have many competitive ballads so it’s a plus. Remember how Slimane’s song had not received a big reaction when it was first released. Some fans said it will flop hard. Then, he had this acapella moment and the ESC staging… Read more »

Nice, Sweden win to show their Eurovision supremacy is inevitable now. Ever since Cha Cha Cha people craved for a fun song to win the contest and Sweden will do what Finland & Croatia weren’t able to do, or what Netherlands wasn’t allowed to do

I think this song has strong potential to do well 🙂 I wish best of luck to her.
I respect to the countries who sends meaningful songs; rather than sending weird or childish like the one from Finland or from Sweden.
