Serving dinner

Malta will be represented by Miriana Conte at Eurovision 2025. The entry “SERVING” has undergone a rebrand, following plenty of controversy, but Miriana still has her eyes set on taking Malta to their first final since 2021.

Miriana Conte’s original lyrics were about “serving kant”, with ‘kant’ meaning ‘singing’ in Maltese. However, due to it’s similarity to an offensive word in English, the title was changed to “SERVING”, with the word ‘kant’ removed from the lyrics altogether.

When news of the controversy first broke, our girl revealed that she was working hard to overcome the obstacles thrown her way. The three words “diva not down” summed up her attitude, as well as the general vibe of the song, perfectly.

Malta at Eurovision 2025: Miriana Conte with “SERVING”

Miriana Conte won the Maltese national selection with the song “Kant”. Coming out on top of a highly competitive line-up, Miriana had more challenges thrown her way, with a last minute lyrical change required to meet the EBU’s rules.

“SERVING” tells the story of the trials and tribulations — both EBU-enforced and otherwise — that Miriana Conte has overcome to be where she is now, on the verge of representing her country on a global stage. She puts her critics to shame in the new music video. They said she was “dead” when the EBU said she couldn’t serve “Kant”, so our girl comes in with an oxygen mask. They said she was “trashy”, so our girl wears a trash bag and puts empty drink cans in her hair.

This is all part of the phenomenon that is “SERVING”.

What do the “SERVING” lyrics mean?

“SERVING” explores the various challenges Miriana Conte has faced. People told her, “don’t be so loud”. Our girl responds, “shut up, shut up, I’mma be real loud”. They told her, “don’t dare stand out, follow the crowd”. Miriana responds, “pull up, pull up, make ’em all bow down”.

In the pre-chorus, Miriana finds her “queen energy”. She finds her “power, a higher me”. This shows the journey she has been on and where it has led her.

In the chorus, Miriana asks, “Why should we let other people decide, when we could be having the time of our lives?” Our girl is breaking free of the stereotypes and the expectations that society has placed on her, and it is her time to shine.

While the original version packs an unexpected punch with the line “serving kant”, the removal of the word “kant”, replaced only with an “ahh” sound, allows the viewer to fill in the blanks. Yes, we are sure that many in the audience in Basel will fill that blank in with the word “kant” — and our girl is most definitely still serving kant. However, she is also serving so much more, and we’re not talking about the food items on the table she is wearing. Miriana serves attitude, energy, personality, nerve, determination and pride, in addition to serving kant.

While the EBU may have stripped the “kant” away, nothing can take the rest of it from Miriana Conte.

“SERVING” lyrics — Miriana Conte (Malta Eurovision 2025)

Songwriters: Benjamin Schmid, Miriana Conte, Matthew Mercieca, Sarah Evelyn Fullerton

I’ve got a secret you should know
Come a little close, I’ll whisper slow
I’ve got a secret you should know
Shhh shhh shhh shhh

People say, “don’t be so loud”
Watch the words coming out your mouth
Hands crossed, don’t dare stand out
Follow the crowd, follow the crowd

Pull up, pull up, make ’em all bow down
Shut up, shut up, I’mma be real loud
Get up, get up, I don’t back down
Follow me now, follow me now

Only lovers, no enemies
Feel around me, queen energy
In my power, a higher me
Here’s the secret remedy

Why should we let other people decide?
When we could be having the time of our lives
Let down your walls, come and dance to my vibe
I do it all the time
I do it all the time

Serving ahh
Do-re-mi-fa-s-s-serving ahh
Do-re-mi-fa-s-s-serving

They say no, do the opposite
That’s it
Give up, give up, this girl don’t quit
Follow me now

Only lovers, no enemies
Feel around me, queen energy
Here’s our secret remedy

Why should we let other people decide?
When we could be having the time of our lives
Let down your walls, come and dance to my vibe
I do it all the time
I do it all the time
I do it all the time

Serving ahh
Do-re-mi-fa-s-s-serving ahh
Do-re-mi-fa-s-s-serving

I’ve got a secret you should know
Do-re-mi-fa-so
I’ve got a secret you should know
Do-re-mi-fa-so

Why should we let other people decide?
When we could be having the time of our lives
Let down your walls, come and dance to my vibe
I do it all the time
I do it all the time

Serving ahh
(I’m serving)
Do-re-mi-fa-s-s-serving ahh
(I’m serving)
Do-re-mi-fa-s-s-serving

I’ve got а secret you ѕhould know

The London Eurovision Party performance was outstanding, it was amazing that 4 other artists came on, if she gets the option to do this in Basel, I think she should get the hosts on the stage, amazing performance, Miriana, you have done us proud, douze point from the UK

Many ESC songs have a simple formula this year: The lyrics make a single impactful statement, but don’t develop further. Malta’s lyrics are better than most this year, but still end up repeating over the final minute anyhow. At least add a “La Ti Do”, haha.
The lyrics are fine enough; the enjoyment of this song is more in the music itself and in its powerful performance (in my opinion).

It’s sad that such a great voice is trying to make a name for itself through cheap controversy.

The cheap controversy (which is repeated in Miriana’s every performance) was a perfect strategy to sell.

I can easily see this song nq. Latvia 2022 was also very popular on TikTok but did very badly in the contest and only got 16 points in the televote.

It’s just a trash song that sad gays love, because their standards are super low.
She is not even close to being any queen. Queens have class. This is nowhere near class. This is a polar opposite.

Don’t put everyone in one bag. I’m gay and I don’t like this song or the performance at the National Final.

This song is nothing but queerbait. Of COURSE the fandom loves it for how gay it is, but look beneath it and all you see is a three-minute long poop joke that ended up poorly censored. This is my last place by a huge gap

And you feel the need to come here to say that…you have such a boring and sad life …I feel pity.

Miriana seems like a perfectly nice girl, too bad her whole ESC experience is reduced to the use of the C-word.
To me, the song itself feels calculated and reductive.

Repeating the Maltese meaning of the word (in an English song) nonsense id so insulting.

Long story short, they ruined a nice song and performance with the use of what they knew sounded like like a swear word. I get that a lot of you out there like it even more for just that.

I don’t even think it’s a nice song, it would not have won in Malta without the word. I am in Amsterdam and fully expect the audience to shout it out, unless she says it herself of course.

Ofc some people in this blog can’t stand if we say something positive on somebody, it’s too hard to handle for them…too sensitive I guess…
