On a sunny day in Budapest last week, Freddie found the time to meet up for a chat in Costa Coffee (excuse the espresso machine) about his preparations for Eurovision, The Main Stage and his performance in Tel Aviv.
However he’s more nervous about getting to Israel than performing there! “I have never landed my feet on a plane, and that’s the thing that I’m nervous about”.
In fact, the run-up to Eurovision doesn’t seem to be fazing him at all, yet. “I’m not nervous, I’m excited. Even though sometimes I feel like I’m pretty overburdened, I don’t feel that tension yet. Which is going to change, of course.”
Freddie interview in Budapest
Reflecting on his A Dal victory, “It was a good feeling that it ended. Not because I didn’t like the whole show, but because it was exhausting. Not only for me but for everyone who made it up to the finals.”
But nevertheless, Freddie hasn’t let his focus slip. “I’m pretty much a maximalist. Which means I always find something that I have to do. But that’s what keeps you motivated. It’s what makes me feel like I have to do better and better. It encourages me.”
Freddie Interview at A Dal 2016
“We have a lot to do. Actually, things came in waves. When there’s a lot to do, it’s really a lot to do. After that you feel like you can take a breath and it’s really strange. I always feel like I must have forgotten something. It can’t be that I have some free time.”
He’s not even letting the competition distract him. “I’m much more interested in what they can do live. Because the studio versions aren’t relevant… What can they do live, on stage and under pressure? That’s what I’m really interested in.”
I am looking forward to seeing you tonight. I hope it’ll be a great show.
There is a new video on Hovi Star’s Facebook page…everyone is dancing, including Freddie.
He is so beautiful.
Freddie is fantastic. I thought his staging & performance in A Dal was perfect.
Pioneer has been my number one song from the first time I heard it. It still is my favourite song despite some very tough competition. Hang in there, Freddie.
Hungary made mistake this year. Better song and result they will have with Gerg? Oláh and his song “Gy?z a jó”
Hungary deserves a great placing this year. Modern song defended by a very characteristic voice.
I’m going to support this in the final, because I’m sure it will be there.
@fikri Your perceptions are wrong. He is a down to earth guy. In spite of his look I think he is more introverted and moderate than all of you think. He prefers to play intimate acoustic performances with his three-member band to big shows. But he can do shows also.
After his landing in Israel he posted a photo. He looked so pale and scared. Definitely it was his first flight experience. 🙂
@Christina
I’ve just realized, that it isn’t an Instagram photo but a video (click on it). Wiwi’s don’t hate Freddie.
@fikri
Do you know what the word ‘arrogant’ means? If yes, why did you find him arrogant? He is quite humble guy IMO.
honestly, he comes off kinda arrogant.
@Skandar
well thank you, my favourite Hungarian entry is Kati Wolf What about my dreams, really goosebumps with that song, also love her story from flight attendant to eurovision performer 🙂
OMG! That Instagram photo… really that was the best you managed to take?!
Not to mention the noise during the interview…
After some “dear” posts and comments from the editors of wiwibloggs it’s clear that you don’t like Freddie or Hungary at all. It’s so sad…
@Nicky91 Some others say the song is similar to Aram MP3, 2014. Both of them are great so these are nice compliments for Freddie.
A lot of noise in the background! I only could hear like half of the interview… but from what I could hear he sounds so down to earth. Such a nice and good looking guy, too bad his song is not as good.
I am looking forward to his performance, because I don’t know what to expect.
I hope he’ll be confident, energetic and entertaining on stage, although, this song doesn’t give him too much opportunity to be showman. Has his enunciation improved?? We’ll see.
By the way, ‘excellent’ Instagram photo and background noise (interview)!!!
@Skandar
well i find the music similar to Imagine Dragons, very cool
and i can see this qualifying 🙂
@Nicky91 Gratis just for you. http://4lyrics.eu/esc/2016/freddie-pioneer/
he’s hotter than the song, that’s for sure
the song is quite bland, i don’t know what he’s singing about
The background voice is disturbing..
He is so sexy it physically hurts…
Looks aren’t everything of course… But dang :X not only the most gorgeous guy in this year’s contest, but one of the most handsome in Eurovision history I think. Such an Adonis.
