Spain currently has a list of singers willing to sing at Euroision 2017 that’s longer than a king size roll of toilet paper.
And now fans are going bananas on Twitter over the latest RTVE gossip, which is causing that wad of paper to unravel further still.
The Sunday before last, RTVE debuted a successful broadcast reunion and documentary of Operación Triunfo contestants to mark the 15th anniversary of the wildly popular show.
Following high ratings and plenty of social media buzz, rumour has it that RTVE wants to ride the OT wave all the way to ESC.
Fans are besides themselves over the potential that the broadcaster will select — or indeed has selected — a group of ‘triunfitos’ to sing at Eurovision 2017. Is there anything to this OT rumour? And where did it emerge? Let’s take a look…
OT, El reencuentro – Chapter 2
On Sunday, the second episode of ‘OT, El Reencuentro’ put RTVE back on top of the day’s ratings with more than four million viewers.
The broadcaster is certainly using the momentum that the show has generated, and so are the artists.
In recent days, RTVE has been promoting the show hardcore, sharing video encounters with the former OT contestants.
And on Monday it was the turn of Natalia and Mireia. Fifteen years after the show first aired, Natalia remains one of the most remembered acts, while Mireia was a part of Fórmula Abierta, a quite popular group in the early 2000s. The meeting was promoted with the hashtag #chicasOT (OT girls).
Natalia – “Vas a volverme loca”
Fórmula Abierta – “Te quiero más”

“Whatever, nothing to do with Eurovision 2017,” you say?
Well, around the same time that the encounter aired, RTVE’s Eurovision Twitter account suddenly came back to life after a month of silence. They said something akin to, “Long time no see. How are you?”
Cuanto tiempo sin pasar por aquí, ¿qué tal?

And after that, @nacho_merinob asked the big question: How are your negotiations with Ruth Lorenzo going?
, ¿qué tal vosotros? ¿cómo van las negociaciones con @RuthLorenzo1? ¿tendrá gala para elegir su canción como en 2012/2013? 🙂

RTVE answered with this enigmatic tweet:
Atentos al sonido de la bocina…. #chicasOT pic.twitter.com/SW3vtwIIWz
— eurovision_rtve (@eurovision_tve) October 24, 2016
“Pay attention to the alarm sound #ChicasOT”
You don’t understand? Neither do we. But fans went crazy and the speculation started.
¿Está @eurovision_tve queriendo decir que este año irá a Eurovisión una de las #ChicasOT? Let the #Eurodrama begin! pic.twitter.com/TThdmswhZM

But this is not the only thing that points to the OT girls. Another one of them, Verónica Romero gave an interview some days ago at Vivaeurovision.com in which she confirmed that she was interested in Eurovision. Either for Spain or for another country.
Verónica Romero – Tu Sonrisa
During the interview, Verónica explained that it’s not the first time she has tried to go to Eurovision. The singer tried last year, and she says she has a song prepared which she would love to sing in the contest. We haven’t heard it yet… but based on her past performances could Verónica be a good choice?
Do you think TVE should choose any of the contestants from Operación Triunfo? Who do you prefer, Natalia, Verónica or Mireia? Share your feelings below!
RTVE has revealed details about Objetivo Eurovision 2017. I hope it won’t be as crappy as last year… that sound and stage… Talking about these girls you should listen to Natalia’s ‘Solo tu’, very spanish with international vibes.
Veronica has a great voice, she’s rocking LA, also stunning song like Defuse This Bomb or Take me Home Tonight.
So, Veronica Eurovision 2017! ????????
I think Veronica is a good option!
That Natalia song you posted, was a cover of a Perrelli single from 2001 even lol
Natalia should enter to Eurovision!!
Natalia should enter to the Eurovision Song Contest!!!
I want Ruth Lorenzo back. Dancing in the rain is the most beautiful song of Eurovision
@Colin
But Ukraine are a bit more successful 😛
Spain is slowly becoming the new Ukraine. Their last male contestant was competing in 2010.
“Chenoa” she is the best.
Natalia
Their female was unsuccesfull. Barei, Edurne, Lucia Perez. They will try something different.
Verónica!!
