It’s the process for selecting the Georgian representative for Eurovision 2020. And now things are getting very real on Georgian Idol, as the eliminations are coming thick and fast.
During the first three live shows the final ten became the final seven. The latest act to fall? Nika Kalandadze. She was in the bottom two alongside Mariam Gogiberidze, while Tornike Kipiani led the game for the third show in a row. Tornike topped the results with 21.17% of the 105,351 votes.
The public is able to vote for their favourite via both telephone voting as well as through the Facebook Messenger app. The remaining nine face more performances and more eliminations before the grand final on 31 December. Take a look at the performances from third live show below.

Unlike the last season of Georgian Idol, which selected both the artist and the song for Eurovision, this year’s series will only select the artist. The future winner of Georgian Idol will then have their Eurovision song internally selected.

I wish Archil Gvasalia were still in. He got eliminated at the Top 10. If you watch his video, it has gotten over 752,000 views. I wish they were choosing based on raw talent… that boy has it!!!
Well. He did sing the only song in English.. Mariam coule be a very good choice too…
I was a little unsure about Tornike until I listened to his “Artificial Love” here. Now I wouldn’t undersell his chances at potentially being excellent with a low-key guitar ballad, something very ’90s grunge-esque (like “Nothing Else Matters” or “Glycerine”). This song in particular reminded me of a famous Israeli song called “Ilana” by Aviv Geffen, which I recommend giving a listen. Georgia just have to do something original but accessible, and taking it down a notch could be the way to go. Long as they don’t go all screamy again. Screamy doesn’t work for them.

Shame, tbh I don’t think they will find the right song for Tornike – it will be something like last year, like it’s just a waste of participation. And I don’t like the format of their idol, they just sing some jazzy songs all the time. Nika was the best as was Liza last year… another NQ for Georgia I think (a prediction)

I don’t even know what to say.. feels like the Georgian audience didn’t really like Nika from the very beginning, otherwise she wouldn’t have placed in the bottom since 3 weeks.
I say that she is a wanted opportunity for a very good result. Let’s see…
But all I can say is that Georgia ain’t the same Georgia as in Junior Eurovision!!
