While Eurovision 2021 has come to a close, one thing that’s just beginning is Måneskin’s takeover of the current cultural zeitgeist. And when the paths of the stylish Eurovision champions crossed with beauty guru and Eurovision co-host NikkieTutorials, it was natural something could have been in the works.

And now, after much teasing by the makeup artist, the collaboration between both is on! Nikkie had the opportunity to interview the band, delving into their insights and personal style. She then makes over frontman Damiano David, giving him a glam rock, stage-ready look.

NikkieTutorials & Måneskin: Interview and makeover

Nikkie was previously able to speak with Måneskin as part of her LookLab series for Eurovision 2021. But now she gets the opportunity to delve a little deeper, including learning more about the writing process behind the Italian band’s new album Teatro D’Ira.

“Most of it, we wrote it in London. We gained a lot of inspiration from the London music scene because we had the opportunity to go to a lot of gigs”, Damiano recalls. While some of this music for the album was recorded in English, Damiano also notes that the Italian music industry pushed them to include songs in their native language. “Everybody told us that you have to write in Italian, because in Italy English speaking is not really a huge thing.”

The band also talked about their trajectory post-Eurovision and their impact on young fans, who have received them in droves, from Germany to the UK, their home country of Italy and beyond.

“We think being an example is a big thing,” Victoria comments. “We’re just ourselves, and that’s the message we want to present to others. No one should stop you from being who you feel like you are.”

And if Damiano has any advice for those people who receive hate online it’s “Keep on going in what you believe in and what makes you comfortable”. He adds, “If you make mistakes, it’s OK because we’re all human beings and everyone makes mistakes. The most important thing is how you react to your mistake.”

Nikkie spoke with Damiano further whilst giving him the makeover. The singer’s journey of self-expression with makeup wasn’t always this straight forward. “I didn’t know make-up was a thing until 2016. When Victoria gave me an eyeliner, I was like ‘Oh my god, that’s fantastic’ and fell in love immediately.”

Nikkie and Damiano discussed a variety of topics to do with his experience and personal life. From his cats, to the craziest experiences on the stage, highlighting his thoughts as she highlighted his eyelids. And the big question on his favourite city to host Eurovision 2022? “My heart says Rome because it’s my home city. But Milan is the city of music in Italy, and it would be really clever to host it there.”

I kind of agree with you, I’m not saying he shouldn’t wear makeup because in all fairness he sports some makeup extremely well. However, in this case I’m with you, it’s a little to over the top and actually detracts from his look whereas just a little around the eyes like he often sported at Eurovision actually really enhanced his look.

fun fact: Kateryna and Go_A are only ones of all Eurovision artists who Damiano follows on Insta, Kateryna follows him back 😉

Seriously, Nikkie’s tutorials are not make-up, they are renovation of a building with a trowel and plaster. Less is more, like the add says.

It’s hard to reconcile their image with their adorable, humble, almost shy personality. One day we’re gonna miss the 22 years old Måneskin so much.

If I were a rock fan of Eurovision, I would love be a hairstylist or makeup artist for any rock bands that competed Eurovision!

Nikkie gives me the same emotion as Petra did 5 years ago… Gratefulness for the fact that we got to see her presenting the show and hosting such amazing campaigns like LookLab, yet I can speak for everyone when I say I feel melancholic for not having her EVERY year as a host…

Were I waaay wordier than I should? Probably yes
