When Israel’s Moran Mazor was eliminated during the semi-finals, Team Wiwi wept. We cried for Israel—land of Dana International and Gali Atari & Milk and Honey. But most of all we shed tears for dear Moran—an amazing singer and one of the nicest women at ESC 2013. After putting our heads together and debating the merits of each of this year’s contestants, the Wiwi Jury is proud to award the 2013 Daria Kinzer Prize for Miss Congeniality to Moran!

The Eurovision Song Contest was founded to bring Europe together following the carnage of World War II. This award honours the contestant whose press conferences and off-stage appearances did the most to honour the Eurovision tradition of peace and camraderie. Daria Kinzer flopped out in ESC 2011, but she stayed throughout the week and partied her claw-nail toes off until the wee hours of the morning with her hardcore fans. She truly embodied the spirit of her song “Celebrate”.

In much the same way, Moran brought peace and love and a whole lot of personality to ESC. Perhaps this is best exemplified by the killer party she threw at Eurovision. In the video we filmed below, the “Rak Bishvilo” singer tells the crowd that she wants to hear them singing. Our cameraman Deban can’t help but chime in. Moran has the power to inspire us to sing, y’all! She’s also very generous: The Israelis gave us plenty of drink tokens.

The following day the diva—who knows how to work a mermaid dress—told us that singing her song always makes her think of her ex-boyfriend. “We’ve all been there. We’ve all been broken-hearted,” she says.  “But I’m through it and I wish him all the best.” That’s right people: He did her wrong, but she doesn’t want to cause him bodily harm. Miss Congeniality embodies kindness!

And here she is covering Loreen’s “Euphoria” Moran-style!

We sincerely hope to see Moran on the Eurovision stage again in the coming years. And we will totally be buying any albums she releases. She doesn’t just sing for Israel. She sings for the world.

This award is just one of a dozen awards we have launched as part of the inaugural Valentina Monetta Awards. Our 12 categories—from best dressed to most most wronged at ESC—identify the contestants who left the biggest impression on Eurovision fans, regardless of whether they won the contest or not. Nine of the awards were decided by the public. But three of the awards, including this one, were decided by members of Team Wiwi who were on the ground in Malmö.

Moran appeared to be very lovely in all appearances in interviews and it is such a shame she didn’t make the final.

Her version of Euphoria was also quite sweet.
