Six acts performed in the first heat of UMK 2014, but only one could win. And thankfully for fans of pop rock victory went to Softengine! Their song “Something Better” proved to live up to its name. The five-piece band had a polished look, worked their camera angles and showed real presence as they earned a spot in the final. As you can tell from their rather nervous looks in the photo above, they had no idea whether they’d get through or not!

Hukka ja Mama surprised many by finishing second. (They came last in both our fan poll and with our in-house jury). They’ll join Jasmin Michaela, MIAU and Dennis Fagerström in the semi-final.

Sadly for Lili Lambert—who finished first with the Wiwi Jury—tonight marks the end of the road. She came last and will have to pack up her gold lamé and go home.

Not a fan of Softengine’s song, but happy they got in the final anyway. And I’m particularly happy for Jasmin Michaela.

YEAHH Go Softengine go! My fave of the night. Hukka Ja Mama was surprisingly pleasant! I liked it more than when I heard it in its demo version. A bit plain, but nice. Didn’t expect that 2nd place either.

Seems kind of strange to go to all this trouble to whittle an initial pool of 12 entrants down to 8 entrants for the final, what with two heats and a semifinal. There is a positive aspect, though. Perhaps viewers who watch all the shows, as well as the jury members, will be able to make better judgments through seeing the performances multiple times, rather than just voting based on first impressions.

@Sami, I was thinking the same thing since I couldn’t find anything about the televote and since what everyone’s saying the final results are are the same as the jury’s vote.

These results are just points from jury, not the full result.
