Nicole Cherry, the teen sensation who took Romanian pop charts by storm last year with her smash hit “Memories”, said that she would not turn down the idea of representing her country at Eurovision. As she turns 16 in December, she would become eligible and we’re glad to hear that she’s also willing!
Nicole Cherry (pronounced like the French “cherie”), whose actual name is Nicoleta Ghinea, exploded on the Romanian music scene last year, when her smash hit “Memories” dominated the radio waves all summer. The then 14-year old bewildered everyone, from music critics to the general public, with her voice and amazing technique, reminiscent of Amy Winehouse’s. Perhaps not surprisingly, the late British singer is one of her idols.
After the triumph of “Memories”, Nicole became a staple at pop concerts all around the country. This year, she released a second single, this time in Romanian, “Vara mea” (My summer), which enjoyed similar chart success. Nicole also displayed great rapping skills this time:
Yesterday, Nicole Cherry was asked, on the TVR talkshow “Se zice ca…” (They say…), whether she ever considered doing Eurovision, now that she will turn 16 and will become eligible to represent the country at the song contest.
The singer replied:
Why not? I am not the type to turn down stuff. If there is the case, yes. […] Eurovision is a platform for international recognition and I don’t know, we’ll see. Maybe I will do it.
Even though it’s just a “maybe”, the news has Romanian Eurovivision fans excited. Nonetheless, there are also some voices who say that Nicole Cherry is too young and unexperienced for the contest. What do you think? Would you like Romania to send the 16-year old sensation to Vienna?

I ADORE this sweetheart girl … saw her showcasing her vocal talents in the previous edition of Te Cunosc De Undeva and she has a killer voice amazing for such a young age .. I totally support if she gets the chance ever to be in Eurovision and I would finally have my very first ever Romanian favourite entry …No more male operatic draculas, stubborn duos with overconfidence but no miracle, no more tries, no more torneros .. This is the real deal, this girl 🙂
Wow she’s really good, definitely can get a great placing for Bucharest with a good song.
