Ira Losco might have won the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with “Chameleon (Invincible)” but the song she’ll be taking to Stockholm is the pop-soul track “Walk on Water”, co-written by Melfest star Molly Pettersson Hammar. “Walk on Water” is a bold declaration of love, with Ira shouting out in the song lyrics that the love “feels like I can walk on water”.
Ira starts the song a woman alone, talking about her sorrows, “Always hittin’ walls/Always tryin’ to break the fall”. But she perks up, realising “I’m not perfect/But I’m A-OK “.
Then comes the big chorus, where Ira is joined by an exuberant gospel choir, singing “I can’t get enough of your love/I can’t get you out of my heart”. And how does this big love make Ira feel? “It feels like I can walk on water.”
Malta missed out on qualifying for the national final in Vienna, but they still very much have their eyes on the prize. If Ira Losco can do better than her second place in 2002 and give Malta their very first Eurovision victory, that will give her another reason to feel like she’s walking on water.
