markus riva supernova 2017 dynamite

Light the fuse and get back, it’s dynamite! Latvia’s Supernova 2017 continues tonight with its second heat. We asked you earlier in the week who you wanted to see qualify from tonight’s show. The result was overwhelming, and with over 25% of the 1,310 votes cast, you said you wanted Markus Riva to top the vote with “Dynamite”!

You can livestream the show via the LTV website from 20:25 CET.

Markus returns tonight for his fourth attempt in a row at representing Latvia. He came closest in 2015 with “Take Me Down”, where he finished second behind Aminata. It seems like this might be his year though: he’s riding high in the iTunes charts and streaming well on Spotify, which of course is part of this year’s voting system.

Markus also easily won our poll, taking 350 votes — over a quarter of the total cast. The Wiwi Jury also thinks he has a good chance, where he finished fifth overall. Wiwiblogger Kristin says:

“Dynamite” is a solid tune and the kind of song that should definitely win, but probably won’t. But damn it, I like this, and I wouldn’t mind if Markus finally takes the trophy and represents Latvia. It’s his time — give Markus a chance!

Second place in the poll goes to another returning act, Triana Park. The band have not attempted to represent Latvia since 2012, when they placed 9th in the Eirodziesma final with “Stars Are My Family”. It seems y’all are happy to see them back too, as they took 200 votes, roughly 15% of the overall total.

Yet another returning act took third place. Duo My Radiant You won over many fans last year at Supernova with “We Will Be Stars”, but they return with a gentle rock sound this year. Clearly that works for some of you, who gave them 165 votes, just under 13% of the total.

Poll Results: Who should qualify from the second heat of Supernova 2017?

  1. Markus Riva — “Dynamite”: 26.72% (350 votes)
  2. Triana Park — “Line”: 15.27% (200 votes)
  3. My Radiant You — “All I Know”: 12.6% (165 votes)
  4. Toms Kalderauskis — “We Won’t Back Down”: 10.23% (134 votes)
  5. UP — “One by One”: 8.93% (117 votes)
  6. The Ludvig — “I’m In Love With You”: 6.56% (86 votes)
  7. Laura Lo & Chris Oak — “Little Weird”: 5.95% (78 votes)
  8. Katrine Lukins — “Silhouette”: 5.11% (67 votes)
  9. The HiQ — “Taju ot lyubvi”: 4.73% (62 votes)
  10. Santa Danelevica — “Your Breath”: 3.28% (43 votes)
  11. Miks Galvanovskis — “Runaway”: 0.61% (8 votes)

Total Votes Cast: 1,310

Supernova continues live at 20.25 CET this evening. You can stream the show via the LTV website, where there’ll also be plenty of Riga Beaver on offer. Two songs will qualify from the public vote/streaming results, before the jury saves two more songs.

Do you think Markus Riva will make it through tonight as the poll suggests? Or do you think another act can surprise us? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, and make sure to check back for all the results later this evening.

UP One by one, absolutely. Eurovision Song Contest is a SONG contest and I really get delighted when there is a folk song among the entries.

My personal top 3 are

My Radiant You
Triana Park
Laura Lo & Chris Oak
The HiQ

Any or all of these to get to the final.

* Not Markus Riva please, his voice and song is way too generic and bland, not original to say the very least. Heard this type of song time and time again.

Triana Park with this amazing song and an outstanding performance playing with the ligths, the neon and the camera angles could place Latvia in the Top 10. I can imagine their staging, could be awesome, they have a lot of potential!
