The Eurovision 2017 second rehearsals are coming thick and fast. Next to take to the stage are Greece’s Demy, Poland’s Kasia Mos and Moldova’s SunStroke Project. Did their tweaks elevate their stage shows? Read on to find out…

Greece — Demy, “This is Love”

As any stage designer knows, water is a vital ingredient when an upside down waterfall is a centrepiece of your staging. So it’s only natural that Greece’s Demy decided to serve some Ruth Lorenzo wet hair realness during her second rehearsal. Shining and matted down, her hair helped her look like a glorious mermaid come to life. Thankfully she wore peach-coloured dress rather than a fin. The elevating platform is better hidden than in the first rehearsal, so her ascent feels much more magical. Vocally she and her backing vocalists were still struggling with the essential “This is looooove” high note. She’s going to need to hit it to earn the jury’s love.

Poland — Kasia Mos, “Flashlight”

Pull out your flashlight and shine it on Kasia! During her second rehearsal the Polish beauty traded in her first white gown for a slightly more revealing bandage dress, which showed off her ample assets and silky shoulders. It has a deep thigh split that teases her perfect pins and shows off her left stiletto, which features an ankle strap and a vertiginous spike that literally has her on point.

Moldova — SunStroke Project, “Hey Mamma!”

They delivered one of the most eye-catching performances of the first rehearsals, so Moldova kept things largely the same on Thursday. Perhaps the most obvious difference is that they came in full dress, wearing their now iconic tuxedos with decorative white lining which we first saw at O Melodi Pentru Europa. As ever the guys nailed their choreography, thrusting and jumping with abandon. Their backing dancers, who wore casual wear earlier in the week, have resurrected their wedding dresses from Chisinau and carry bouquets as they sing and dance. It’s as delightful as ever.

Greece: I was really impatient to watch my girl Demy at her 2nd rehearsal! We actually had the chance to have an idea of what is happening on stage throughout the song! She was amazing! It’s sweet and beautiful! Demy is stunning! Everything is well made! I like the concept! They made a normal / not WOW pop song even better and interesting to watch! Love you Demy!

Poland: Not many changes here apart from Kasia’s dress! I have to say I prefered the 1st one! Vocally great!

Moldova: They were once again amazing!

Moldova were brillIiant, they bring so much fun and energy and should qualfiy for the final with ease. Greece I am not sure about, don’t like the waterfall and her vocals were not great today. I didn’t like Poland, the stage looked very empty as do a few others and comes across as boring.

Moldova was a really pleasant surprise. I didn’t like the music video at all and that kind of rubbed off on my impression of the song, but the live performance was so well-executed and so much fun that I started to appreciate the song in a new way. A dead cert qualifier for me. Kasia has been solid throughout and I expect Poland to qualify. Out of the many big and generic ballads in this semi I think this is one of the better ones. And Poland does have that diaspora. Greece needs to get a handle on those vocals… Read more »

Remember Poland’s last year entry? Everyone was bitching around about Micha?’s simple backdrop, violinists sitting on chairs, that he looked like Captain Hook from Peter Pan, that he is Polish answer to Conchita etc.? But he had strong voice and good(and yes, maybe better than Flashlight) song, just like Kasia. And he made it straight to finals and got surprisingly 3rd place in televoting. So I’m pretty sure that she will qualify to finals. You will see.

The Polish singer is good but the song goes nowhere. In a year of ballads, it is forgettable. It won’t qualify.

Nothing original about the Greek staging….seen it all before and better! The singer can sing but in the rehearsals did not hit the high notes as good as she should. I think people will like it enough to send it through.

Moldova is a polished performance. The juries will even like the choreography and staging. It will definitely qualify.

Poland is wonderful, wow. Especially since the dress change. This version is much lighter and honestly why didn’t they just go with this dress in the first rehearsal? The first one was pretty out of shape and the choice of mixining this thick material with light Chiffon and slapping it on top… and don’t get me started on that onesided sleeve… anyway… Vocally this entry is mindblowing, you can hate the song but criticizing the vocals is just ignorant. I can’t believe how much better this is compared to Polands’ choice last years. A definite qualifier, because this year she’ll… Read more »

Then you have low knowledge about violin and how it sounds. I hear it all the time.

They don’t really play the instruments on Eurovision. Only the vocals are live. Everyone playing instruments on stage is basically pretending.

Yes, but there is violin, a lot of it in music anyway…

Demy’s vocals don’t sound half as bad as the comments suggest. That 30 second exclusive rehearsal footage looked very impressive.

Frankly, the Polish lady seems to be struggling more. Although, to be fair, her song is considerably more difficult to sing.

The Polish lady’s nasal screams are tragic indeed. Demy sounds okay but her backing vocalists were a bit off.

Sorry, I don’t like Greece and Poland, though Kasia can sing! Moldova is entertaining and I would like to see them in the final, because they are fun and add to the diversity.

Greece:

Again, it’s a little less spectacualar than I expected, but it’s still nice. I’m not sure if this really needs a water theme, but it’s decent to look at.

Poland:

The colours are much better this time! It actually looks very good now.

Moldova:

It’s as good as before, to them it’s probably just practice from now on.

For whatever reason, Poland is just not working. On any level. I was pretty excited when they picked it but it has not come together as a Eurovision entry. It will be probably qualify at the expense of a more deserving song!

I disagree, I don’t think it’ll qualify. Poland qualified once between 2005 and 2011, this means that if they send something underwhelming they won’t get through. They ain’t no Russia/Azerbaijan.

After Day 5:

1. Portugal
2. Sweden
3. Greece
4. Azerbaijan
5. Finland
6. Moldova
7. Poland
8. Cyprus (not as bad the second time around but still borderline for me)
9. Albania
10. Czech Republic (its performed beautifully and a shame it won’t make the final)
11. Australia
12. Iceland
13. Belgium
14. Georgia
15. Montenegro

off topic
I love Croatia, Jacques seems like a person that I like to be friend with, I believe he is a diva, but in the next second he knows if he exaggerated. And if you are asking about the dancer from his video, guess his full name is Endi Schrotter.

Tbh, the only thing that I like in the Greek entry is Demy.
The song, the staging, the vocals, the dancers…No comments.

Poland, amazing vocals. I was hoping for a better staging, and the violinist is kind of disconnect to it. But it’s a crime if Poland doesn’t qualify.

Moldova, great staging and 100% qualifying.

To be even more honest, I prefer Iceland and Czech Rep. to qualify instead of Australia and Greece. Australia’s staging is really boring.

I like the Australian song, but the staging is killing it to me. I’d add Czech R. and Iceland to the final, because at least we would have different sounds. But I know both probably won’t qualify.

There’s nothing funny about it. Austalia is boring as hell and tbh Greece is just another dance song with a trashy lyrics. I’m not a fan of Iceland and Czech R. but they are at least bringing something different to the table. So joke’s on your music taste actually…

In Joe’s defence you are rather rude in saying that. Personally, I prefer Iceland over Greece and Australia because her artistry is miles ahead of everyone else in the competition. It’s a shame you can’t see the full picture, at least have some respect for subjective opinions ?

After 13 (Iceland’s performance is on Wiwi’s YouTube page) 1. Portugal 2. Sweden 3. Greece (the song really grew on me these past few days and the staging is great. Still need to hit that note though) 4. Azerbaijan 5. Finland 6. Moldova (the backup singers dress change reminds me of Finland 2013 change) 7. Poland (love the outfit and the sneak peek but I have 6 favorites ahead of her 8. Albania 9. Australia 10. Iceland (the 3 minutes were good but not enough to make the final when you add Armenia and Latvia into the mix) 11. Belgium… Read more »
