After six shows in six cities over six weeks, Melodifestivalen 2018 journeyed to the Friends Arena in Stockholm for its heated conclusion. Twelve acts competed in the contest, vying for the opportunity to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. After the dust has settled, Benjamin Ingrosso has won with “Dance You Off”!
Benjamin won after twelve (or thirteen, after Renaida performed twice) performances featuring everything from Swedish to Spanish. From big dance numbers to heartfelt ballads, glowing pyramids to an ape in a cabana and everything in between. Benjamin wins after topping both the jury and public vote.

I really am melancholy about the times when Sweden was represented by Sanna Nielsen.
Heya, Frau Sanna, please CTRL+Z! [Undo my sad(ness)]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PQJI-3LW-8
Sanna was great, but I would like to see Ace as the winner that year whith Busy, busy.
This is the worst Swedish entry since that guy from Malmö tried to enter me with no lube!
What an incredible dull and boring song; you hear thousands like this on the radio. I taught last year the Swedish song was not great, this is 10 times worse !
Will he reach the final ? Yes off course. Bu I hope with a bad ranking in the end because this is absolutely not what we expect from a Swedish entry. And they didn’t send Loreen with ‘Statements’ last year … my gosh what a waste.
Well we like it. And we send what we like, not what we think other expect us to like. ?
Mmmm if the idea is not to win because it gets too expensive to organise the whole thing that makes sense :). But there are so many greats songs in Sweden it’s hard to understand they send this piece of crap. And for your understanding, yes Eurovision is not only sending something you like as a country, but hoping others will do as well. That’s the concept of a contest.
Well, the audience in sweden hasn’t that focus on esc. That my opinion. The mest I know only wath the melfest and don’t care about esc. Melfest is bigger than esc here and many vote for the song they like most. Not what they think people in Azerbadjan,Norway or Italy like.
”Piesa asta este… Hit,
Michael Jackson n-a murit!”
WTF is THIS?
Shame you, Sweden!
Read more »
. Men då skulle det… Read more »
Tröttsamt med allt hat! ?
A certain winner! great staging, great vocals.
likely winner
Summary of old escoswedophob “criticism” : “It’s about the song, not the staging! Sweden is cheating and destroys the contest.” “It’s an English song, not Swedish. Where is the showcase of Sweden?” “I’m not hating Sweden, I just don’t like them or their songs and I feel a need to tell everything about it. Free speech osv not trolling” “The contest is rigged by Christer Björkman, the almighty evil genius.” “Why do Sweden make such a fuss about their esc selection? All this glam and glitter is soo gay and ridiculous.” Just deal with it and send better songs yourself… Read more »
Yes. There are so much jealousy. as every year with Swedens entry
The 80s want him back.
I agrre, I think that the song comes from an american tradition from the 80s. Bit still corrent for today. Perhaps noting for ESC, but that dose not mean that the song is great. I hopp europe Will like it! ?
Such a great song! Great stage act! Possible winner!
FELIX WILL MABY GO TO LISSABON
Those who hate Benjamin because they love Felix. ….Well they are not like you.
There att no hate between them. Felix said in an interwiew that he would join his friend to Lissabon. Benjamin sad that they both had won and talked about sharing the price, the songbird. Kidding about cut it in two pieces or have i diffrent weeks.
The interwiew was directly after målfest on SVT.
They are close friends and invite eachother for birthdayparties. When Benjamin and Felix works in LA they also meet eacother as friends.
I guess I’m being overly judgmental, but this guy has given me a dbag vibe since I first learned of him years ago.
This is the weakest entry of Sweden in years. Excepting the staging, nothing interesting in it. Well, you can’t be on top every year. If the juries are not helping it, we could have a final without Sweden.
The interesting thing about this final is the fact that Felix and Mendez who finished 2nd and 3rd in the televote, came from the Andra Chansen round. But this is not the first time that this happens : back in 2013, Robin Stjernberg (who won MF 2013) and Anton Ewald finished 2nd and 3rd in the televotes after both of them competed in the Andra Chansen round. But what is more intriguing is that when we take the artists from the 3rd semi-final (Jessica Andersson & Martin Almgren) who managed to qualify directly to the final, they finished respectively 12th… Read more »
Well semi final 3 was the weakest one. It wasn’t surprising Jessica and Martin ended up low. Jessica had the weakest “heart” glowing of all DF winners. The fact the odds had her up so high was surprising
It’s good that Felix is still dominating the charts. He is the real winner! Benjamin is still 7th in the charts lol. It just shows how lacklustre his song is.
chart-toppers aren’t exactly the best songs, Rolandz chart higher than Martin and John
Wow wow wow! This isn’t me… what’s going on?
Well, Benjamin and Felix support eachother. Benjamin is happening for Felix for dominating The spotyfychart. Felix is hsppy for Benjamin.
Today is Benjamin in top of Spotify!
I liked it a lot when I first heard it, it’ catchy and likable, but the more you hear it, the more annoying it gets, at least for me. You discover everything that’s not so great about that song with every listening. So the music is too simple, no hook as someone said, the vocals are not that impressive.. I can see it doing great though, because in the Eurovision final most people will see it for the first time, and most people have simple tastes, and the visuals are nice, and this is Sweden, and they will always get… Read more »

Well, it’s time to book accommodation in Stockholm 2019 baby!
MJ would have approved
Really does sound like a Michael Jackson rip off
Sweden’s last year’s entry was so much stronger that this one..
It’s not a bad song, but in his situation a bit overproduced to cover up a weak and average voice..
Peace.. 🙂
Even if I don’t love the song, I find it a FAR superior effort to last year. Robin’s performance last year sounded really strained.
Guys, at this point of ESC and after the controversy between fast food music and personal composer’s music, I think we should all try to agree to vote for a quality song in terms of composition with a European essence. I still dont know who I will vote for, but I would like the winner to be among Greece, Armenia, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, which are NOT singing in English.
No! At this point I still want to vote for a quality modern dance track that makes me happy and that makes me want to stand up and dance and forget all sorrow in this sad world. Dance it off! ?
I get your point! I wouldnt mind either as long as it has quality, has a European essence, it has a personal touch and hasnt got an “I’ve heard it before” effect. To stand up and dance to generic commercial songs we have the clubs, In my opinion, a song contest should value other features.
Last time I checked, English was a European language.
Wow, the amount of comments 😛
Anyway, I have watched performances now, and my impressions:
Felix was amazing, the best his performance so far, powerful vocal, impressive stage presence, just beautiful song, my winner <3
About actual winner- he's really enjoying, playing and having fun on that scene, doesn't he? 😀 Song has retro-disco vibe, as someone said? Staging will be noticed for sure, it's interesting to watch. One can complain because his favorite doesn't win, but as I can see , he won televote as well, so I can only say- congratulations!
I think a lot of people are missing the point of these comments. Yes, this will rank good in the competition. But why? Because it’s Sweden, not because the song is good or original. We are not denying the song’s possibilities to succeed in May, but pointing out that Eurovision isn’t really a fair competition. Sweden could send literally anything and be in top 10, and it’s the same for a few other countries too! Azerbaijan and Australia for example. Please imagine Benjamin’s song for an eastern european country, with a little worse staging, and the odds will go down… Read more »
I absolutely agree with what your saying. Second this..
Azerbaijan wasn’t in the top 10 for the last 5 years (since 2014)
That’s the point. If for example, Belarus would have chosen this, most people would be talking about how awful and cheap his vocals are, and about how difficult it will be for him to qualify. But since it’s Sweden….
The fact is only Sweden can have this kind of modern staging and they can elevate the song with money and creativity. That’s why many people love Sweden’s entry.
You do hate…..
You seem to be missing the point that Sweden has been hated on here since 2012 when Loreen win. Hell Loreen was disliked even when she won. Like how i’ts to generic of a dance track to win, like how it sounds like every song on the radio and isn¨t original. Every year the same story how it always does well because of country. As if the songs have no qualities what so ever. Like is it that hard to understand that people maybe like the songs because they good? Instead people go on and on about how generic Sweden… Read more »
Suck.
petition for Sweden to turn this into a Moment Like This style schlager ballad with the led wall dividing Ben & Felix Sandman
BEST COMMENT!! Love that shipping!
OMG the jealousy from you who are not Swedish are amazing. Half of you are probably British queens who are tired of your own very pathetic selection for ESC
Italian here, and I still agree with the other comments.
If that awful 2016 entry finishes in the top 5, this should have no problem doing the same.
I don’t buy the notion that “it will get a good result because it’s Sweden”. No country will get a good result based on old merits. However the fact that the international jury gave Benjamin very good scores (6 twelves out of 11) indicates that the jury will rank Sweden high in ESC too.
One concern that I have about this entry is that it’s easy to like what we are watching but it’s very difficult to connect with it. It bothers me that there isn’t that moment in “Heroes” for example, where Mans had some interaction with the audience. This one has just one brief long shot. I hope they change that to Lisbon, but I don’t think it will happen.
Sabrina, I reckon’ what you’re saying- anthemic ”Heroes”- Mans’ interaction with audience was impressive and uplifting. Robin- he was ”seducing” the audience, it was flirty song. Benjamin- he is self-centered, enjoying himself, but maybe because the song is like that? (looking at the lyrics). He wants to forget his toxic relationship? ”Treating you good we were gold I dug you like you were treasure So don’t act like I’m the cruel one When I know you know better..” ”Just wanna dance you off So don’t you dare wait up ‘Cause I just wanna feel the mood Girl with anyone but… Read more »
It makes sense, Eve. But wouldn’t it be nice if he finishes his performance by leaving the neon lights and moving to the audience? I think that would be a great image. The way it is right now, it’s more like he’s performing on a studio and not on a arena.
It’s so cool actually, it looks like he’s in music video, not on real stage! But, I have same feeling as you – no interaction with audience. I like your idea, it could be nice turn over, but I doubt it will happen too 🙂
Delusional fans thinking this could stay in the semis…LOL
It’s Sweden, people. They made Top 5 in the past two year with worse songs and in higher level competitions. Benjamin will be Top 3 at least, don’t be naive
Of course Benjamin won. What else could be expected? The song is competent, the staging like a life video, performance like a Swiss clock. Bravo for displaying so much savoire-faire (and money)!… And of course it will be in the top positions. But if Sweden wants to win, it has to do a whole lot more and bring something that it cannot be produced, even with a lot of money – and that thing is called: soul!
the song is cool, it certainly isn´t my style of music but I like it.
Sweden is sticking on what it does best: commercial well produced pop songs with great staging, good for them!
Yes, imagine scenario if Felix won, everybody will say it is Sobral copy..
Sooo everyone always talk about Italian, Spanish and Greek fans but no one talks about Swedish fans? Because some of them really need to come down to earth a little bit….
Its because of our results in the last couple of years, people have become cocky about the contest here.. I think we have the worst fans right now after the spanish fans.
they’re all talking in swedish, so..
Goooo Sweden! Heja Sverige!!
One thing is for sure. Italy will love this song. Benjamin is of Italian descent and sings a song and does a atage act that willgive him almost certainly 12 points from Italy.
Gooooooo Sweden!
12 points from Italy will likely go to Estonia. Italy hardly votes for Sweden, his surname won’t make the difference.
Plus Estonia has a better song.
Damn, I really wanted Felix to win but he came in a respectable second and should be proud of himself. He at least has the number one song in the country, Benjamin doesn’t right now. I don’t like this song and think it to be a soulless, soul song but it is going to do well in Eurovision. There is one reason for that: the staging. It is one of the best I’ve ever seen. This staging elevates a rather weak song sung by a guy trying hard to be a sexy man but comes off as a young dude… Read more »
Your birth was a bad choice
How mature of you, Maria.
I think Sweden will be leading the betting within a day or two! Dance You Off is a great pop track. His stage performance is unique and will stand out!.
Remember the fuzz when Loreen won, when Måns won.
People from other countries are super jealous of Sweden and our success.
I’m sorry, but WFT #$**^^$###@ . I thought eurovision and this site, was supposed to celebrate all sorts of music, people and spred love. Like the song… love love peace peace. Not a freaking hate fest of jelousy and dissapointment. Just stop , benig hateful . It’s a good song. And I, unlike, man of you trolls out there on the net , appreciate the song. And i’m sure that Mariette or who ever you like will probably make a returns to melfest next year or a few later. Don’t worry. Just be happy that we didn’t sen something bad… Read more »
Couldn’t have said it any better.
Oh trust me, anyone could. Just accept the fact that having a different opinion isn’t hate. People are allowed to dislike this song.
It doesn’t deserve a top 10 position in the final. It will qualify for sure, as this year is very weak in general terms, but if this ends higher than 15th or so, it is going to be just because it’s the Swedish entry. Period
I feelsad for you
No it will probably be due to the quality staging and live vocals
Just because someone says something negative about a Swedish song doesn’t make them “anti-Swedish”. Criticizing a song is not the same as criticizing the country. Also, Sweden isn’t the only country that gets hated on at Eurovision. Other countries, especially Russia and Australia, also receive similar levels of hate as well. BTW, I personally am really happy that Benjamin won Melfest.
Oops I accidentally duplicated my comment so just disregard this one and look at my comment below.
Well, I don’t agree. Look och read. Wiwibloggs is a plattform for hade agaist everything that is conected to sweden. If we ever say somthing good about our artists, our tradition whith melfest, Christer Björkman. Look at the respons.
We try to hard to win, we arr idiots that choose other songs than escfans here appriciate, like Frans insted of Wiktoria etc. And on and on.
ÄR SÅ LESS!! Kan någon bara förklara.
I think people need to understand that every song will always have haters and the people who like a song that gets hated on need to just let it go and forget about the hate.
Has Benjamin ever been a good singer? 😮
No 🙂
Great song, great performance. Certain top3 in ESC! Congrats Sweden!
Pure crap… It sucks…
Sweden deserves to bomb this year…
But sadly that wishful scenario is unrealistic to occur…
Typically another qualification to the Final
& top10 placing for Sweden…
Only because it’s Sweden of course…
At least thankfully it won’t be Sweden 2019.
I don’t see Swedes winning the contest!
And thank god!
This guy Benjamin Ingrosso used to be such charming & likable back in his “Good Lovin” Melo fest participation…
Now unfortunately he has transformed to an annoying wannabe loser… Really unfortunate…
#ByeFelicia!
Sverige ska bombas för vårt val! Va fan wiwibloggs!
Wow, you just know that Sweden is Top 3 material when the hate is so massive on Wiwibloggs as this year. 😉
Agreed. The same every year. The better song, the more hate..
Benjamin will likely be a top contender and it bugs some fans on this site.
It’s not the same every year. but i guess that makes you feel better about your mediocre entry, somehow.
Go cry to mama…
oops davve, you forgot to change your email lol maybe your mama can help you out.
I hear ya & sympathise with Swedes. There are a lot of people hating on Australia in this forum as well. I like the Swedish song, I have been watching and listening to his video over the last week. Good luck Sweden in Lisbon!
Isnt he italian? lol Ingrosso? Woah italy can win 2 times this year.
Any relation to superstar DJ and member of Swedish House Mafia, Sebastian Ingrosso? Also Swedish of Italian heritage
Yes, they’re cousins! Their fathers are brothers
They do kind of look similar. Cheers!
Interesting. I knew it wasn’t just a coincidence that him and Axel shared the same surname. I thought Ingrosso was Swedish though lol
*I meant Sebastian sorry
His mother, father and uncle all performing on melodifestivalen and in this video some years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AQAGIGwNsg
Hahah, well spotted! I believe Sebastian and Benjamin are first cousins (i.e. their dads are brothers). If you are really curious about the family, they have a reality TV show in Sweden called Wahlgrens Värld (and I’m embarrassed to say that I regularly watch it :P).
We all have our guilty pleasures Dan! Embrace it haha
His dad is called Emilio and was born in Sweden. Maybe his grandfather was Italian…
He is Italian from his dad. Dad now lives in Italy with new wife. He was in audience last night. Former ESC winner Charlotte Perrelli used to be his aunt. She was married to younger brother. They took their mothers maiden name and her children are cousins to Benji. And yes, that Ingrosso is his first cousin too.
Emilio Ingrisso, Benjamins father was a background dancer behind Pernilla Wahlgren, the mother at the melfest 1984 when she sang Picadeli Circus.
Czech Republic is dominating this genre of dance offs this year. It will be difficult to beat the horny camel show.
(Except that live animals aren’t allowed on stage at Eurovision.)
Hun, did he say they were?
Yes. “It will be difficult to beat the horny camel show”.
“Camel show” = show with a camel.
We may see the toes of camels lol…
Dance You Off is a million miles better than Lie to Me, which is a song that just stinks of douchebaggery.
Lie To Me has the spunk that Dance You Off doesn’t. If Sweden does better it will be because of visual effects. Either way, they both will have to compete with Israel now. Live animals may not be allowed on stage, but I doubt we won’t be seeing fake camel and chicken costumes in the choreography.
Given how fabulously ridiculous the Israeli lyrics are (NOT the message which is a great one – the words used to convey it) I wouldn’t be surprised if Netta had both fake camels and chickens.
Haha! Awesome!
“Lie to me” might be slightly better as a song. But haven’t seen their staging yet.. Could get a bit silly instead in my opinion. If I imagine it. “Dance you off” is more slick.
This is 100% show and 0% music, but oh well.
I hope he brings Felix to support him.
Felix is so cute!
We seem to send an entry that screams SWEDEN according to fans. Good, because then I know we are on the right track. This is what we do best, and we shouldn’t stop sending it. How boring it would be if we did! And.. sending an entry which reminds of last years winner is not good at all. So that leaves Felix out.
“Lie to me” might be a better song, but could actually flop with the staging.. This is packaged nicely from the start and ready to go. Good luck Benjamin!
It doesn’t matter what we send, this is what it would sound in the wiwibloggs comments:
Benjamin wins:
“Omg so bad song, its only staging, he can’t sing or dance, I’m so disappointed!”
Felix wins:
“Omg it’s copy and paste from 2016 and Frans’ song, why can’t Sweden bring something new?? I’m so disappointed!”
Margaret wins:
“Omg why do Sweden send a polish artist? It should be someone from Sweden, guys! I’m so disappointed!”
Jessica wins:
“Omg schlager is so yesterday! Why won’t Sweden send something modern like they always do? I’m so disappointed”
Dont be delusional.
Please inform me how I should be then 🙂
However, I’m just fed up with the comments. It was the same comments when Robin, Frans and Måns won (and look how poorly they did, jeez). So in my ‘delusional’ mind, I think it doesn’t matter who wins, it will always be the wrong song according to this fansite.
‘i It was the same comments when Robin, Frans and Måns won ‘
Jeez hun, no it wasnt. use a different argument to feel better about yourself, okay?
People are criticizing it for a reason, and if you cant see why or try to understand it , then yes, you’re delusional.
My sweet honey-bun, If I’ve got a penny for every hate comment on a Swedish winning entry on this site, I’d be a millionaire, okay?
So you’re saying that whom ever won tonight wouldn’t get any sort of comment of those examples I gave? That all other entries were better than Benjamin? All I’m saying is that people is getting butt-hurt no matter what.
Benjamin wasn’t even my favorite entry, but that is not what my point is. Me, my voices and my delusion cheered for Samir and Victor if that makes you happy?
Dom hatade Loreen, Sanna, Måns, Frans, Robin. Patetiskt.
What’s pathetic is to write in swedish, because you’re scared people might fight you in the comments.
I’ll repeat myself: Stay cocky, sweden. The fall will be even bigger. If not this year, next year. And no, queen loreen did not receive this amount of hate.
P.S- people dont watch melfest for the quality of music, but for the ‘show’ and troll acts.
Actually…
Im a Swede and I find Benjamins song quite boring. I think its a song without any passion nor spirit to it…Not my favourite at all, but I wish him the best anyway.:)
And either you like a song or you dont, the great thing about this is that its ok with different taste in music?
Loreen on the other hand, was outstanding in my believes.May the best song win, no matter what country it is.?
Ja, tröttsamt.
So you’re basically saying that no one should say anything negative about a Swedish entry and that anyone who does that is just jealous and bitter?
I’m not Swedish and I agree with you. They just hate you guys sending pop songs with a really good staging. They are the guys who always look for unique and different sounds. However, they just don’t know there are a lot of people like me who love this type of songs. I want to a song I can listen to after the contest but not the one-time artsy thing!
S&V wins:
”YASSS KINGSSS, SLAY US!”
Heja!
