She’s the pink haired singer who won over the Portuguese public to win Festvial da Cancao. Now, Cláudia Pascoal knows where she’ll be performing from to try and do the same with Europe.
She’ll perform “O Jardim” from the 8th spot in the Eurovision 2018 Grand Final.
The draw for Portugal was made, as is tradition, during the Head of Delegation Meeting. Portugal is the only country to draw its final position at random, as per the rules for the host country.
This is to stop any unfair advantage, as host broadcaster RTP gets to decide the rest of the running order. All’s fair in love and Eurovision, y’all!
Cláudia Pascoal — “O Jardim” (Interview)
Last year, Joci Pápai was the 8th act on stage in Kyiv. He went on to then finish 8th with “Origo” — though it’s fair to say there’s a fair difference between his entry and Claudia’s!
In fact, 8th is not a bad draw in recent years: both Poli Genova (in 2016) and Bojana Stamenov (in 2015) finished in the top ten as well. It’s been some time since the draw last won, though – Dana International’s “Diva” in 1998.
The Head of Delegation meeting has also revealed details of the Eurovision 2018 press centre. The assorted press from Europe, Australia and beyond will be housed in the Pavilhão de Portugal, a short walk away from the Altice Arena.
Also to be confirmed in the HoD meeting are the submissions of all 43 entries, as well as more details about preparations for the three live shows. Keep your eyes peeled on wiwibloggs for more information as it comes out.
What do you think of Cláudia’s draw? Do you think that Portugal could pull off a back-to-back victory after all? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below.
I think 8th is okay but the Portuguese entry this year most probably won’t win because entries from Israel and Estonia are most probably going to do very well.
Portugal, a possible Eurovision Winner in 2018, again… A modern and contemporary ballad song, complex, great voice, an addictive, emotional and hyped song, more you listen, more you love it… The song will be revamped, and extended to 3 minutes, and in the last minute should raise the tone and accelerate a beat… This song could win Eurovision again.
No, the song won’t be extended to 3 minutes.
Cláudia has already said in an interview to Rui Unas that they had to submit the song right after Festival da Canção and it has the same length as the original.
Portugal’s song will cause impact no matter it’s position
Most portuguese people were not happy about our entry this year, especially the elderly, because it has a contemporary sound and the girls dont have a ‘classy’ look, not sure if the fact that Isaura may be lesbian might have something to do with the prejudice, but…the main audience of festival da cancao is old people, im still surprised it won, but i’m glad it did. Interesting, cause salvador was also hated by many portuguese in the beginning. We are very auto critical unfortunately, and only give value when foreigners do it. It’s hard to say if 8th is good… Read more »
Hmm not that i think of it, saying most portuguese people might be exaggerated, i guess mostlythe elders.
My impression is most people are happy with it. After Diogo’s withdrawal she was the clear favourite. And she won the televote.
She won’t win. She probably won’t even do a top 10 but I am proud of our song. It’s a good song. I hope we can keep the hype and start sending quality to Eurovision, unlike the last 15/20 years.
“We are very auto critical unfortunately” So true! ahahah this is the typical portuguese!
“Most portuguese people were not happy about our entry this year,”.. yeah right, thats why “o jardim” is nº 1 in Portugal…
Lol it’s nº1 in Portugal since when? proof please. If you’re not portuguese, better not talk about things you dont know, mate.
se quiseres fala lá cmg em pt?
I guess you didnt see my second comment too. Most portuguese(elders) were swooning over Catarina and were not happy with the result.
Not a bad place imo
@Aaron Well, there are literally no fans complaining nor fighting, Aaron. At least not in a big scale. But apparently, me disliking your attitude= Portugal’s the new spain
And portuguese entry aint even my fav, lmao
This guy is a parody.
Portugal is the new Greece/Spain
If you happen to not like their song, their fans are coming for you 😀 😛 Never knew people got so worked up over a tv show
Here in the South, we can be very passionate ! 😛
except, where are those fans tho?
I think it’s pretty normal, that a lot of people reading an article about Portuguese entry will be the people that like this one. If you think it’s boring – that’s fine – you don’t have to emphasize your feelings as much.
Here’s the thing with Aaron. I complained about his attitude that he as on every thread, and now, trying to ‘save’ his ass, he’s saying that portuguese fans are coming for everyone who dislikes the song, which aint even true as you can see, i was the only one ‘hating on poor aaron’ lmao.
He’s obsessed with the Portugal and Sobral’s speech on every thread.
Eh, not really aaron, don’t see it in this comment section and from other websites, plus there’s no way of knowing who people are unless they say it, everyone has their favourites this year.
Even if you hate the song (which is fine), the way you said it wasn’t very respectful, nor towards the songwriter or the singer. So don’t act innocent or get surprised to receive an answer of the same level, towards a comment like that. Period.
I think 8th position is pretty good. I don’t usually rely on prejudice as for the place a country will perform. 8th is neither too early nor too late.
It will stand out no matter where it is.
Ohh wasn’t Sobral 12th. Anyways,, It’s a beautiful song, thankfully not in the first 6. One of the best this year. i wish you the best sweet Claudia!!
11th
«being in the first third won’t necessarily help it with televoters»
Lol gotta love these ‘predictions’.
Anyways, congrats claudia, it’s a decent place. The song is one of my faves this year.
It’ll be easier to tell if this is a good or bad slot depending on what is before and after, but being in the first third won’t necessarily help it with televoters
You go girl !!! It will be your lucky number.
Portugal gets so much publicity from you and yesterday my comments about high trending quotations on you tube from Belgium were blocked by you. The promotional favorite of wiwibloggs is known again
I’m from Portugal, I hope they promote more Belgium I want a decent winner. I have no much favs this year but Belgium is one of my favs. I never voted for ESC probably I’ll do it for my 1st time.
Thank you desfolhada ???
You’re welcome!
Your country is always slaying it’s time for victory.
This is probably is most boring song this year. When I listen back in my recap I’ve created, it’s one of a few songs I struggle to match to the country. Now that’s its placed 8th people will forget it.
I will try to forget your terrible grammar.
Is Portgual the new Spain/Greece?
If you don’t like their song the gloves come off and fans get nasty
Someone complained about his grammar = portuguese fan nasty!!!!
Lmao.
good let’s get this one out of the way qs early as possible
but you’ll be first to get out of the way ^^
May I ask why do you hate Portugal so much?
Everyone’s got to have a last place.
It’s just the song I find most boring/least interesting.
Ok fair enough. Everyone has its own different taste, if it’s really only a question of taste. I have my last too, and it might be a struggle between Moldavia, Finland and Israel. Cheers
*taste
No, it’s not about the entry. I always see his comments. This aaron is still butthurt about sobral speech, so he is hating on portugal unfairly. Has nothing to do with the song. He’s a troll.
You’re like the Azeris “everyone who disagrees with me must be Armenian”
I have nothing against Portugal the country, and I liked their songs in 2008 and 2014, but overall its record is very weak, and the past 2 years it has been my least favourite. That’s all
Okay, firstly, i’m not even into the portuguese entry.
Secondly, good on you, friend.
Yeah we just have very different tastes, I like all 3 of the ones you mentioned. Israel is my fave, Finland second, and Moldova is in the Top 10 too.
There is a difference between a song being last in your opinion and leaving multiple hate comments about said song, Iceland is last for me but I don’t go around caring about it enough to hate it.
because it is the favorite of wiwibloggs too much promotion. reference yesterday. Last week Belgium has high trending quotations (2days nr 1 ) on you tube and and my reaction to this was blocked by Wiwibloggs. That is why I am angry because Bernardo is Portuguese
You need to clean your cache ever so often as not all commenrs gets published through the filters.
@Aaron
Nice! Your disappointment in May will be even bigger! Can’t wait to see ur reaction!
In what way will I be dissapointed are you predicting a 2nd Portuguese win?
Never said that
What am I supposed to be disappointed about then?
You’re already a disappointed and toxic person, you need some positivity in your life. Letting go of sobrals cock would be a start.
Thats incredibly rich and ironic coming from you 😀

Maybe 8 is Isaura’s lucky number, O Jardim is also about her and too personal to her.
Nothing is impossible if you vote! Public have 50% of power!
“LET’S DO THIS”
It’s not ideal but it’s ok. Slow songs like this are at disadvantage if they start too early. One example was Engelbert Humperdinck and Love will set you free that started the show in 2012, which entirely killed its chances. Uptempo works better in the beginning.
I think the UK killed its chances in 2012 by choosing Engelbert such a terrible song, not the running order.
We will never know of course. But I think its chances would be better if it performed in the end. Personally I liked Love will set you free.
I did too Pasadena, but then ‘Only The Light’ was one of my favourite songs of 1987
My favorite in 1987 was Gente di mare 🙂
Too early to tell if it’s good or not. Maybe the first half will be packed with uptempo songs and this can makes Portugal stand out. Maybe the heavy hitters will perform on the second half and this gets lost by running too early. I guess when you avoid the first 6 spots, you can already feel relieved.
Actually, it doesn’t really matter that much on which spot the song is performed as Long as it’s good. Except for the 2nd spot…that’s a black hole lol.
When the running order of the semi finals will be announced?
Georgia isn’t even out yet….
Georgia will be out today’s evening.
Usually the beginning of April.
It’s not bad but it would have been better towards the end
The song’s good enough that a spot in the first half shouldn’t dilute it too much (Portugal competed in the first half last year too and look where that got ’em).
8th is not that bad but for O Jardim, I think it might not be so good
So many songs to be performed later on so there’s a chance of forgetting it
I think it’s still memorable and hope for it to do well 🙂
So are Iriao going to release their song or… ?
Tomorrow, together with the videoclip.
Who is the man in the picture holding the paper with 8 in it?
He looks like Czech head of delegation, Jan Bors. That’s odd.
I think he’s Jan Bors, head of delagation from Czech Republic
Yes, Strange. Maybe a sign that EBU wants Czech Republic to be Winner this year?
The Odds also like that idea, Mikolas is 2nd behind Israel again ^^
Congrats for being one of the Interval Act artists
Yeah, It’s definitely Jan Bors, our head of delegation.
First thought when I saw the picture was: why him?
Maybe if Czech Republic wins, we could see Slovakia back? Miss them…
Slovakia have some underrated entries but nothing I’d call incredible (save for maybe all-time fan favorite Horehronie). It would be nice if they came back, though. If 2019 saw the return of Slovakia and B&H and the debut of Liechtenstein, we’d have a solid line-up.
