Up, down, all around! Now that all countries having rehearsed at least once, the Eurovision 2018 odds have shifted once more. And Estonia’s Elina Nechayeva comes out as the big winner.

Estonia has now climbed to third place, behind only Israel and Norway. On May 1st Bet365 had her odds as high as 12/1, but they’ve now halved her to 6/1.

Following her stunning first rehearsal, fans and critics said yes to Elina’s dress. Our readers ranked “La Forza” as their favorite rehearsal on day one. While other countries suffered both vocal and technical difficulties, Elina stayed strong at her second rehearsal.

France has fallen to fourth position with the bookmakers. Over the past week they climbed like no other act and surged from 12th to second position. However, their odds, which were as high as 7/1 on May 1st, have risen to as high as 10/1 with a few outlets.

Cyprus pushed into the top ten after their hip-shaking, hair-whipping first rehearsal. And Eleni Foureira has continued to rise with the bookies. She’s now sixth favourite to win with odds as low as 10/1 at Betway.

Australia‘s Jessica Mauboy now sits in ninth position. She’s been in the top five for more than a month but fell out following her first rehearsal. And her odds continue to widen, with Bet365 pushing her odds from 12/1 to 33/1. Ouch.

The remaining countries in the top ten haven’t changed that much. Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Sweden and Italy round out the Top 10.

Why Albania its so low in this list ?? He was amazing in both rehearsals

I think potential winners after rehearsals are Estonia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and maybe Sweden. Israel is cool song but only in video version and in Tuesday mat flop dramatically ( shocking non qualifaier maybe)

Sweden is top 10 this year.

The odds also have Finland as 12th to win it all and 12th to qualify in semi final 1. So I’m taking whatever they say with a grain of salt right now.

When Loreen rose to the top with the bookies after melodifestivalen everyone hated on her for the fact she was 1st – she then won easily and deserved to win. Same with Netta and La Forza. I love both Israel and Estonia and would also be happy if France took the victory, but people stop hating on songs because the bookies have made them first! Also, Netta and Estonia have delivered faultless 2nd rehearsals however all the singing experts here don’t seem to think so???… comments about staging and coldness blah blah blah honestly?!?

HoneyBS
Guest

The only thing I need to say today is that the winner will be a surprise. No one has the full package like Salvador, Jamala, Emilie or Loreen. This will be like 2011.

No Estonia, no Israel, no Bulgaria, no Cyprus, no France. So sorry for the last two.

The winner is between 10 and 20 in the odds. That’s my feel. Or Italy, I hope.

Kral
Guest

Loreen and Emilie already performed as conscious winners. You could see the winner smile of Loreen at 0:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfo-8z86x80

The other two won by sheer emotional performances on the big night. They were in the bunch of favorites, but nothing was assured beforehand.

The atmosphere the final gala reaches is unthinkable for us now, so predicting a winner out of the blue is nothing but bold predictions.

Wow – well said – people easily write off other countries simply because if staging – it will be interesting –

Capybara

Elina is the next Lazarev. The quality robotic, flashy staging that bamboozles you for a 3rd position.

Human, authentic feelings always win. It’s a matter of intangibles and that’s why we won’t know till the very last day.

Miklas
Guest

One thing is clear to me. Rybak may finish high. I always thought his experience will make him come back strong again and it’s proving for a possible top 5 position, but…

…no way the big audience chooses him as a repeating winner. No chance executing this violin concept again. He should’ve come with something different but I guess he doesn’t care about winning again.

Europeans have memory. Norway winning would be an insult to the efforts of the rest.

Ireland is ridiculously underrated in the odds, but hey, what’s new there?
Estonia is good but its way overrated I think. Nice to see Australia’s odds drop. 12th place is a much more realistic position for a song of that standard.
Everything else is looking pretty good here.

Why is everyone avoiding the fact that Catalonian is a seperate country while France and Italy can sing a song with political message.
Spain’s song is representing Spain NOT Catalonia. We would never send a cheesy song like Tu Cancion.

Anitta

Italy’s song its not a song with a political message ..It’s a song against terrorism

Actually Eurovision is for music and ideally it will be good to avoid different political topics. This is song contest party not arena for political fights.

To be honest this whole Estonian fandom vs Israel fandom should stop. I know most people defend their favourites because they want to be right about the final results but I think there are many talented acts this year to just limit it to two. I personally would like Estonia to win and Israel to not win but its just because I really dont like Toy as much. But I wouldn’t be upset if Cyprus or Sweden were to win.

To be honest i preffet Israel or Greece to win and not the boring flat song from Estonia

Yaaf

Relax, they cannot win! I don’t think they will qualify. It’s just a bubble! Save your money if you bet. Juries will not go with this , it’s a scam, as for the televoting you can never know, but is this the most endearing entry that makes you pick the phone and vote?! We will found out, I’m curious but hoping she will not succed, sorry!

Estonia’s entry is one of the most divisive ones this year. It will get high points but likewise it will have nil from some countries. Wish you well, brothers in Estonia. But I am afraid of the “Estonia effect”, known from 2011, 2014 and 2017. Getter Jaani, Tanja, Koit and Laura – all too good to be DQ’d. Love from the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland <3

Andi

I don’t think La Forza will go down like 2011,2014(which wasn’t even a big fave) and 2017.

You mean the wolf in a dress clothing? She’ll finish just like that emperor who was walking naked in the streets until a boy with courage shouted at him – “you’re wearing no clothes”, pulling the rug underneath his vanity. The odds are nonsense this year. Netta’s lackluster rehearsals should make the odds more evened out, ot have her remain as the clear favourite. Norway and France are way overrated and live on pure hype from ESC die hard fans. Outside of ESg blogs and news sites and ESC fans, almost no one’s talking about Rybak or “Mercy”. The common viewer and likely voter won’t care that Rybak won Eurovision 9 years ago or the story behind “Mercy” in a language the vast majority of them won’t understand and the juries have likely been instructed to look past the things… Read more »

Outside of ESC blogs and news sites – no one is talking about Eurovision at all. The common viewer is not interested in any of this until the day when he maybe tunes in and then watches maybe half of the performances, settles on a favorite based on the quality of the performance on the day and the amounts of beers he had that evening – and if we’re really lucky picks up the phone and votes. Thats the common voter – and we have zero ability to predict what they will do this year. As for juries – they’re… Read more »

You couldn’t be more right! Maybe the time when betting odds can’t predict the winner have come. I don’t think the common mortal is checking ESC websites, betting or being attentive to what’s goimg on right now in Lisbon. The last word will depend on the common viewer: the granny knitting, the Gen-Z stuck on their phone, the husband who’s been back from the toilet, the non-Eurofan who wants to laugh at any oddity, etc. All of them are true votes… for whom? We’ll find out about that soon.

Malin

A beutyfull song. But do you think the viewer will vote for a female opera singer?

Those who listen to opera don’t look at ESC and the rest usaly like when men are singing opera. They think the feemales are screaming. NOT MY OPINION, but afraid many think so. I like the song a lot, althogt it’s not my favorit. Like the remix more and think you would get a better result whit that version.

Good Luck Estona, you have always good songs so you deserve a good result.

Malin, dear, I only now realize it is you, that put the question! I am big fan of opera! It is my favourite genre and I know everything about it! Let me tell you that from opera fans Estonia is just the worst thing possible! I don’t have your knowledge but I have honestly had some of your thoughts myself. Beside that, I would prefer if the produktion was more playful and not that prestigious. But I think the operasceen benfits of this kind of acts participate in esc, After that Marlene Ernman participated whith La Voix, the intrest for opera incresed and children became intreste in Sweden.

Yaaf
Guest

Some screaming lady does not put you in the mood for opera, I would say good voices screaming with passion like Albania, Romania, why not AWS , even Bugaria can make you interested in the richness of human voice. Also in opera right now the trend is to perform the same classical operas in modern clothes, to make the characters realistic, normal people that are living the same drama right now. So no pedestal needed for a good voice with a good song.

Kirby
Guest

Yes, she sounds and looks too cold! But I guess juries will adore her

Malin
Guest

I agree that some of the juries will. Forexample ltaly, France, Spain, Greece, Russia and some more, But I can see some other juries that won’t be as impressed. No names mentioned. But I think the song deserv a good result. Maby not top 5 but top 10.

Yaa
Guest

Estonia should not count on Italy, they may be flattered at first that it’s in italian and that it’s opera( for italians opera is pretty much an italian thing) but they will also be the first to notice that it’s incomprehensible and secondly because many many italians ( and I expect even more the juries) know a lot about opera. Great opera singers get boo in La Scala for a single bad note, they are simply fierce!

Anthony de France

this is nonsense to say that opera CAN NOT win at eurovision !

don’t invent musical genres please. Netta is trashy pop, and trashy pop has won Eurovision consistently over the years.

Anthony de France
Guest

I think people and juries are fed up with trashy pop songs and do no longer want this kind of song to win
2016 / JAMALA
2017/SALAVADOR
2018/Elina ?
It’s uncertain whether this recent evolution towards musical authenticity at eurovision will last

Miklas
Guest

What authenticity you see in Elina’s performance? This “come and go” redundant light effect on her dress is one of the most gimmicky things I ever seen in Eurovision, trying to fool the viewer.

What’s the human meaning of this effect? Pure circus show.

LawStudent
Guest

Why is it “nonsense” if it never won before? Every other musical genre has – opera has always failed consistently despite dozens of entries over the years. Its the opposite of nonsense – its statistically sound.

Anthony de France
Guest

I think that before 2006 everyone thought hard rock will never win at eurovision
Victory is not ALWAYS a question of statistics

LawStudent
Guest

I disagree with you. Rock has always done extremely well in Eurovision over the years. From punk rock to folk rock to glam rock to ethnic rock. The same cannot be said about opera.

Anthony de France
Guest

it is true that rock has sometimes done well but there is a difference between doing well and winning
besides all this i think that people watching on TV are not always wondering ” which musical genre is it ?”
victory at eurovision is a matter of instant emotion related to a song regardless the musical genre it is

Yaaf

Go Albania, Romania and awesome AWS! Much better than Estonia by all standards!

Lidija Horvath

Because Lordi was first, so we did not have anything to compare it with. Opera is an old story. And If Il Volo couldnt win, this will have a harder time. To many people it sounds boring, pretencious, fake and kitsch, sorry. I would bet for a top 5 placement, but no more.

Guys, calm down. Haven’t you realised that Estonia is rallying these days just like Norway did last week, France the previous one and Bulgaria right before? These songs get some momentum and they replace each other at the 2nd spot, always at a considerable distance from Israel. Many could win as quality and likeability is high this year. I think Israel keeps its chances intact, but should not Toy win i bet it is France. fugu

I don’t think Estonia should win but I can live with it. There are a couple of songs that are getting extreme hype that I put in my bottom five for blatant, non-stop gimmickry and nonsense. If you are going to do gimmickry and nonsense – don’t pretend it is something other than gimmickry and nonsense, and the world will play along and love you. Think Verka Seduchka. Think Russian Grannies.

Yaaf

Keep calm thry will not win , it’s too shallow! My bet is NQ.

Trocatroc

I put money on Estonia early on so I am hoping they can pull it out of the bag! It will surely stand out on the night. I also was convinced Portugal would win last year after their first rehearsal because it was so different. I was so annoyed that I didn’t put money on it. I don’t want to make the same mistake twice!

LawStudent
Guest

Thats a waste of your hard earned cash. Opera singers don’t win Eurovision. Just a well-established fact. Its an acquired taste and most Eurovision watchers don’t relate to it. Plus what she did at Eurovision Village yesterday was abysmal. Who sings with a playback? This song can’t be turned into a club banger. Just really bad and proved that she’s nothing without her gimmick dress.

Pedro
Guest

Oh you are so jellous :):)

LawStudent
Guest

Jealousy has nothing to do with this. I’m being rational – can you give me a rational argument of how she will win Eurovision when no other opera entry has ever done so? It can’t be just about this damn dress. If you can buy ESC with a dress and some flashy lights then we’re all doomed.

susan
Guest

other opera entry has ever done that…??? So what about, it’s always the first time. The rational argument is that you ‘re really afraid that the opera could win acctually this time and you can’t hide your jealousy, that’s why you write here bad things abot her like she is nothing.

Philip Wester

The reason why a popera entry will be unlikely to win ESC anytime soon is not due to the televoters jut the juries. Every single popera entry we’ve had has been rated higher by the televoters than the juries. Heck, in 2015, Italy WON the televote.

Estonia’s biggest hurdle will be the juries, not the televoters.

Trocatroc
Guest

Well we will see! I don’t mind if they don’t win, I only bet £10 but I bet very early so got a good price. May the best song win!

LawStudent

Theres no real comparing between Estonia this year and Italy in 2015. They were three hot guys giving a dynamic performance. The words they sang were clearly pronounced and it was more of a rock-ballad song than just an opera melody. Its far more accessible and relatable to a mass audience than what Estonia is offering this year. That is why they won the Televote and it tells you nothing about how opera is perceived by the general public voting form home.

Yaa
Guest

I voted for them back then. Three good looking guys, with nice tenor voices singing passionatelly a powerful balad, not popera, more like a quality musical, a catchy tune also, no resemblance with Estonia this year!

Estonia is like Portugal last year. Climbing the odds, day by day, until the final where it will likely get to be the #1 favorite. Israel is an over-hyped mess, just like Italy last year (which, by the way, was a much better song than Netta’s). It will not win, not even close. Rebecca Black also got millions of views with her song “Friday” on YouTube… because of shock value, just like Netta and her chicken noises. It doesn’t mean anything. You forgot that Estonia was #1 in the odds back in February and March. And for a long time it was 2nd. The reason was the strong impactful initial reaction, thus it can happen again since majority will see it for the first time. You simply can’t rule them out as a candidate for the win.

Kyna – I don’t take the betting odds seriously until after all songs are revealed. Before then its a mixed bag of visceral reactions which cannot be properly appreciated. Azerbaijan was 4th for three weeks at some point this year – so what?

Kyna

My point was that your statement that “Estonia will never make it to #1 with the bookie” is false, proven with facts. Estonia was high with a reason, the song was revealed during that time. Yes that the odds shouldn’t be taken that seriously, but in some sense it gives some perspective, especially when the competition is getting closer. We just don’t know which are the fake favorites and which are actually going to do well. We’ll eventually find that out next week.

Tuvddtgccj57g

I wouldn’t say it’s the best song, there are A LOT of great songs and performers this year. Israel managed to create a lot of hype, it had a catchy video, which backfired, because it’s hard to replicate it on stage. And what about the people who will hear the song for the first time on stage? They likely won’t like it as much. So yeah, a lot of question marks here.

LawStudent

Wait for the actual performance and tell me if you didn’t get the video replicated on stage okay? You watched some 45 seconds of a rehearsal that didn’t give you any of the camera angles (which is what the video is all about) and you’ve already decided that the magic won’t get replicated? Thats foolish.

Yea I notice that too. Before it was a battle between Estonia and Bulgaria for the 5th spot in the past week. Now it’s for the 2nd place, next week it should be more clear.

I noticed same thing and thought that my computer makes some joke with me 🙂

Estonia seems to be the SF1 winner, but I don’t think she will win the contest. I expect Bulgaria and Italy to fall out of the Top 10, as well as Israel and Norway to go down a bit.

In your dreams dude…. Israel is number 1 winner on Sf1 and in the all contest.Envy is not good for your skin lol

Even eurovison journalists, who saw all of the acts, say that Netta’s performance isn’t a winner material

Love netta

I saw that journalist said Netta is a sure winner.are you envy again?

Tuvddtgccj57g

How is Israel still first after that disappointing rehersal?’
Last year Gabbani started to drop after his first rehersal.

It means there are lots of other people who think opposite to you.

Dont worry- Israel flop even more than last test Italy because live perfomance of Netta is quite weak

Love netta

Keep envy on Netta patethic!!! NETTA IS PERFECT LIVE!!!!

Pal

I m not envy at all – just to be correct live perfomance is not good enough ( video is much better)

Love netta

As i said Netta is amazing live. I guess the odds agree with me becouse she never leave number 1.Gabani last yeat did noymt stay on number 1 odds like Netta. So you do envy becouse Israel will win big time.

Tuvddtgccj57g

Odds are not an indicator of how good a performance is. Reviews of experienced eurovision journalists are. And they agree that Netta’s performance won’t win as it is now. The odds might indicate how much hype there is around something, or that someone spent a lot of money betting on certain country. The odds won’t perform instead of Netta.

Not the journalist votes..the pepole at home get to choose the winner ..so its Netta for sure.and her secend rehursel was great i saw how many rooting for her there.so shut up.Only william from wiwi said its not winning metirial becouse he love Estonia boring song and the old song from Cyprus.but who cares what mr william think.i saw other opinions all are love Netta preformance so far.Tel Aviv 19 easy

Tuvddtgccj57g

William says what he thinks, and he’s been right about a lot of things. Other people might be more careful with their opinions because they don’t want to sound rude or xenophobic and attract hate. They play it safe. People voting at homes won’t have this problem. They judt won’t vote if they don’t like something.

First of all, who are these “journalists” you speak of? I didn’t hear them making any such predictions in definitive terms. Correctly so because no one can know exactly what will happen on the day and ESC is super arbitrary. In any event to decide that Netta’s staging is weak without seeing the camera angles which are at the core of what made the music video the success it is – is silly. Wait till SF1 watch the actual performance and then lets talk.

Tuvddtgccj57g

A lot of journalists pick the best acts of the rehearsals, and netta wasn’t one of them most of the time, so…

Denis

Envy of what exaclty?
The live performance wasn’t good enough. Even those who were there said it wasn’t a winning performance. Your precious Netta isn’t good enough!

Netta is the best keep envy..and dont cry when she will win lol

@Denis
What is there to be jealous of? Chicken noises? Cheap, lazy lyrics? “I’m not your toy, stupid boy!” – even a 5 year old child could’ve written this… LOL And the dancers making silly faces… It’s like a bad circus act. No class.

Netta iz top favorit to win.what is there to be envy on Estonia..of a flat song with awful screaming…..and a singer who is nothing speical and original likd Netta.so go back to your cave you chicken

Yaa
Guest

I am not team Netta, nor I will vote for her and I don’t think she will win but the song is clever and Israel’s entry this year does good for Eurovision, adds novelty, fun, the Wtf moment we all enjoy so, thank you, Israel, you did your best, good luck!

In the top 3 between Israel, Norway and Estonia I prefer Estonia ! Wonderful voice, great staging, good charisma, beautiful person inside and outside (and very funny !)

I wouldn’t mind if she won, I actually like her act better than Norway or Israel. She’s got full package: great song, great voice, great staging, charisma, looks.

Love netta

No … Netta has the all package and Netta will win.

No for sure and you will see it by yourself next week 🙂
