Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2021 kicks off its six-week run on Saturday 6 February. As always, Swedish fans can catch the Eurovision selection by switching their televisions to SVT 1. Viewers elsewhere will need to head online.
Here’s when and how you can watch the first semi of Melfest 2021.

The opening heat will see seven acts perform. As always, the semi-final results will be determined solely by the viewing public through a mixture of app and phone votes. There will be a short break in the vote at which point the two lowest acts will be eliminated. Voting will open once more, after which four entries will remain — the top two songs will go direct to the final while the next two will progress to the andra chansen round.
The running order is:
- Kadiatou “One Touch”
- Lillasyster “Pretender”
- Jessica Andersson “Horizon”
- Paul Rey “The Missing Piece”
- Arvingarna “Tänker inte alls gå hem”
- Nathalie Brydolf “Fingerprints”
- Danny Saucedo “Dandi dansa”
Christer Björkman will host all six episodes of Melfest 2021. He will joined by a selection of different co-hosts throughout the series. Eurovision 2004 singer Lena Philipsson will assist him in week one.
So we go from Eric Saade in 2015 singing “Oh STINK it’s gonna STINK so bad, oh yeh yeh”……to Arvingarna in 2021 singing “Take it in the ass, take it in the ass”…
Think i’ll be giving this first semi final of Melodifestivalen a miss as it’s so bad. But its worth tuning in around Arvingarna’s performance just to see them sing those lyrics with a str8 face…so my favorite and “direkt till final”….Arvingarna…absolutely!
I’ve never seen such a weak semi.
After those snippets, I don’t need to know how to watch. Disappointing for Melfest opening week!
