Mahmood Blanco Elisa

After setting another ratings record — the second live episode collected 11,320,000 viewers and an audience share of 55.8%, the best result since 1995! — Sanremo 2022 moved on to the third night.

Tuesday’s show was hosted by Amadeus with the support of Drusilla Foer, female alter ego en travesti of the talented actor Gianluca Gori.

Tonight the 25 contestants — the names from which Italy’s Eurovision 2022 artist will be chosen — performed their entries to the viewers for the second time. The performances were this time judged by the televote and the demoscopic poll. In the end, their preferences were added to those of the press jury voting from the first two nights to create a provisional top 25.

Sanremo 2022 third night

Provisional top 25 based on the first three nights

  1. Mahmood & Blanco with “Brividi”
  2. Elisa with “O forse sei tu”
  3. Gianni Morandi with “Apri tutte le porte”
  4. Irama with “Ovunque sarai”
  5. Sangiovanni with “Farfalle”
  6. Emma with “Ogni volta è così”
  7. Massimo Ranieri with “Lettera di là dal mare”
  8. Fabrizio Moro with “Sei tu”
  9. La Rappresentante di Lista with “Ciao Ciao”
  10. Dargen D’Amico with “Dove si balla”
  11. Michele Bravi with “Inverno dei fiori”
  12. Ditonellapiaga & Rettore with “Chimica”
  13. Aka7even with “Perfetta così”
  14. Achille Lauro with “Domenica”
  15. Noemi with “Ti amo non lo so dire”
  16. Rkomi with “Insuperabile”
  17. Matteo Romano with “Virale”
  18. Iva Zanicchi with “Voglio amarti”

  21. Giusy Ferreri with “Miele”
  22. Le Vibrazioni with “Tantissimo”
  23. Yuman with “Ora e qui”
  24. Ana Mena with “Duecentomila ore”
  25. Tananai with “Sesso occasionale”

Cesare Cremonini was the main special guest of the third live show. The singer-songwriter, who has NEVER participated in Sanremo, neither as a contestant nor as a guest, debuted at the Ariston to celebrate twenty years of a career full of hits.

He stunned the audience with a medley of his songs “Nessuno vuole essere Robin”, “Marmellata #25”, “Logico #1”, “La nuova stella di Broadway” and “Poetica”. He then returned on stage to perform his latest single “La ragazza del futuro” and “50 special”, the song that made him famous in 1999.

How will the Sanremo winner be picked?

Voting during the five evenings will occur through different combinations of three methods:

  • Public televoting, carried out via landline, mobile phone, the contest’s official mobile app and online voting.
  • Press jury voting, expressed by accredited print, radio and web journalists that followed the competition from the Roof Hall at the Ariston Theatre.
  • demoscopic poll, composed by 1000 music fans who voted from their homes via an electronic voting system managed by global market research and a consulting firm Ipsos.

The four voting systems will have a percentage weight so distributed:

  • First and Second Evening: 100% press jury voting
  • Third Evening: 50% public televoting; 50% demoscopic poll
  • Fourth Evening: 34% public televoting; 33% demoscopic poll; 33% press jury voting
  • Fifth Evening: 100% public televoting

In the final part of the fifth evening, a new rank indicating the first three acts — determined by the percentage of votes obtained in this evening’s vote and those obtained in previous evenings — will be drawn up.

  • Superfinal: 34% public televoting; 33% press jury voting; 33% demoscopic poll

Looks like I am the only one here who sees nothing special about mahmood’s song – it’s a slow modern ballad – a been there done that kind of thing, although it’s true that Mahmood is a magnificent artist and singer. Looks like I’m also the only one who thinks that Michele Bravi’s song is the stand-out song that marries together the great italian song with modern instrumentalisation and should be the runaway winner.

Rkomi’s audience is younger and his fanbase comes mostly from the rap/trap/urban scene where Sanremo is still mostly seen as something old and it’s usually frowned upon to take part (thanks to Amadeus this is changing) so I’m not surprised that he’s getting a lot of streams but not as much televote support

Blanco and Rkomi’s audiences should be similar but in the last year Blanco has become more mainstream and he’s singing with Mahmood who is mainstream. The interesting thing is that Rkomi’s album Taxi Driver was actually the most sold one in 2021 (beating also Blanco’s Blu Celeste) but Blanco’s was more critically acclaimed and was the most talked about one last year so Blanco’s name became more mainstream and his songs got more attention in the radio. For example my mother knew who Blanco was before Sanremo but had no idea who Rkomi was because his songs get very little… Read more »

My personal ranking is constantly changing, in the same way as scoreboard changing every evening haha. That’s why I love San Remo and it’s diversity. My personal top: Brividi/Virale (can’t decide between them) Chimica (up 1 place) Ciao Ciao (down 1 place) Elisa Noemi (after the second performance she suddenly climbed up to my top 5) Overall, results yesterday disappointed me. I liked that Brividi moved to 1st position but other changings were sad for me. Virale to my mind deservse to be at least in top 5. I don’t understand why Matteo is underestimated. I like Mahmood & Blanco’s presence on stage, but I do not like how their voices sound in the falsetto range – not very pleasing to my ears! If Brividi was performed by someone like Duncan Laurence and Gjon’s Tears, who have amazing falsettos, it would be on another level…

I also think yes.
Why wouldn’t Elisa take a chance to represent her country on the home soil, especially when she’s also internatioanlly oriented performer.
If Mahmood performed alone, I would question his decision to participate again but he’s performing with Blanco for whom it would be a very great experience. The guy is very talented and has potential to be successful internationally.

Definitely yes in both cases:
Elisa has always had a very international approach with her music, and I really struggle to believe she would miss this opportunity to showcase her abilities on an European scale.
About Mahmood, I don’t think that going to Eurovision once would represent a good reason for him not to go again, especially considering that Blanco hasn’t had this chance yet.
Final note: I believe also that the Maneskin effect will play a role in the interest of artists, after the impact of their victory, not to mention the possibility to represent Italy on home soil.

People forget an important thing: Sanremo choose the artist, not automatically the song. For example if Elisa wins and accept to go to esc, I doubt she’ll bring this song. She wrote more than half of her songs in english and it comes easier for her to write in english, she’ll probably bring an english song with a message (like “no hero” or “toghether” for example). Mahmood & Blanco probably will bring this one (or write another one, but they’ll bring one that’s surely in italian). Irama can do bangers and if he’ll win I’m sure he’ll bring something different… Read more »

I’m not sure if they’re still allowed to change their song, they can translate it but I don’t think they can change it all together. When Nina Zilli made her choice Rai was still trying different things, now there are rules in Sanremo that are tied to Eurovision. Also, why anybody would change their song? If they thought they had a stronger song they would have competed in Sanremo with that

Gippa

I think the rule still stand since at the after victory conference the press always ask the winner if they’re going to partecipate to esc and if they’ll bring that song (and artists will always reply “we’ll see” to the second question). Even last year Maneskin thought about bringing a song in english but decided to bring zitti e buoni instead. And it’s not a matter of better songs. Sanremo is not a selection for esc like the others, it’s for the italian market. These songs will be airplayed and will be in the top charts for months. Artists go… Read more »

This reminds me of Benidorm fest when so many people liked Rigo Van titty and I couldn’t understand why. Same goes with Brividi. An awful song sang by a popular singer. Definitely they won’t be winning ESC again with such a song but I guess to the Italian ears sounds melodic.

Personally, I loved to see the show pick up the pace now that all the songs have to perform on the same night. Many songs grew on me last night, including the two obvious favorites to win. If I had to predict, I’d bet on Mahmood and Blanco winning this year’s contest and I do think that they have better chances of doing well at Eurovision than Elisa. That said, I personally prefer Elisa’s ballad. Really sad to see “Ciao ciao” slip all the way to 9th. In general, many of the more uptempo entries that I liked unfortunately suffered… Read more »

Sanremo is (as per usual) great. I fell asleep at midnight, so I can only praise the first half, but I believe that everyone did their best afterwards too. I would be leaning towards Irama being my winner at this point, though, but I cannot forget Michele Bravi, Noemi, LRDL, or Sangiovanni either. Sanremo is amazing this year! Every night it gets better and better. I think Irama is my personal winner at this point but I like more than half of the songs a lot. after the third night, I still believe the one who should represents Italy in ESC 2022 is someone who never win the Sanremo before or at least never be in ESC before.. we have Irama, Michele, La Rappresentante di Lista who also did a good job last night.. Brividi is too perfect, it will better as an interval act in Grand Final ESC, rather than as a contestant.. but anyways Good luck to everyone

Elisa has to win imo, her song deeply affected me the most and she’s absolutely beautiful.

Brividi is nice but I feel it’s only getting hype due to Mahmood and hype of Italy winning on home soil, I’d rather have a first time represent Italy and not let ESC turn into some cinematic universe with all the same names and predictable outcomes through fan service over fresh new talent.

I also really like Gianni, Irama, Sangiovanni, Michele and D&R.

The results were great for one of my favorites (Mahmood & Blanco leaving Elisa behind) but devastating for the other (I assume La Rappresentante di Lista’s chances to get to the top 3 were crushed tonight). I was also expecting some public push to Noemi, but it seems she’ll be ignored this year. At this point, I guess everybody agrees that Mahmood & Blanco and Elisa are locks in the superfinal. Given Sangiovanni’s jump on the scoreboard from yesterday to today, I suppose he’ll benefit from the televote on the final night like Francesca & Fedez last year. I would… Read more »

At least Sangiovanni is in the top 5, I’m still hopeful but unfortunately for me because not being a fan of their song, it’s pretty safe to say that Mahmood and Bianco will win this festival so now the question is not who will win San Remo but who will go in Eurovision, will Mahmood want to go twice in Eurovision, will we have a refusal? And if not him who? For me Sangiovanni Irama or Emma could do the job in well representing the host country. Brividi has its success because of the San Remo effect and thanks Mahmood… Read more »

Ok at least I prefered Fai rumore, more impactful and in the context of the pandemic it was perfect, while Brividi as a non italian I don’t feel it.
But look at the millions of followers of Mahmood add to this the San Remo effect and you have forcefully streams records it’s not surprising, it’s mathematical, and imho even if the song is good or not it would be the same, something is biased for me because of that.
Ok their falsettos and harmonies are good but it’s not only that making a song, I need something more.

Don’t think it will win sanremo, but ciao ciao would be just a perfect esc entry for Italy. It’s fun and charming without losing quality, it has that catchy element we’ve seen in most recent Italian entries, and strong enough to safely get into the top 10. Could even open the grand final…

I feel it’s the other way around. Brividi would be the safe top 10. Emotional ballad sung by a stellar duo. Don’t underestimate Ciao ciao’s chances for more than that at ESC. It’s super uplifting, ultra addictive and still classy as an Italian. Plus LRDL look very eurofan friendly
