It’s the end of January and we now have six songs chosen for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. In our last poll — conducted when we had just three — France’s Slimane won the day ahead of Albania’s Besa and Czechia’s Aiko.
But since then three more songs have entered the frame — from Slovenia’s Raiven, Ireland’s Bambie Thug, and Luxembourg’s Tali.
So who has your favourite song so far? You can vote in our poll below. We’re including videos of the songs that weren’t in our poll the last time.

🇱🇺 Luxembourg: Tali – “Fighter”
The 23-year-old artist lives in New York, where she works as a vocal coach and music teacher. Since the release of her EP, lose you, in 2021, she has been touring the city with her band. She left her home country to pursue a career as an actress in musicals such as Les Misérables. She won Luxembourg’s national selection on Saturday, making her the first contestant from the Grand Duchy to book at spot at Eurovision in three decades. Her song is a French-language bop about perseverance.
🇮🇪 Ireland: Bambie Thug – “Doomsday Blue”
With this amazing stage name, Bambie Thug has been drawing attention to their music of late. Mixing different types and styles, the Cork-born musician has created their own genre which they call “Ouija Pop” – referring to the ouija, a spirit board used to contact the dead. They stormed to victory in Ireland’s Eurosong 2024 with some epic staging that gave us major Tim Burton vibes. Ahead of the contest, Bambie said the song “transports you from alt witchy verses to killer screams, pop choruses, a jazzy middle-eight, before ending in a metallic roar of electro and heavy guitars. It perfectly showcases the different facets of me as an artist. I can be explosive and hard-hitting, but I can also be sweet and soulful.”
🇸🇮 Slovenia: Raiven – “Veronika”
Raiven, a mezzo-soprano singer, author, songwriter, and harpist, was internally selected to represent Slovenia with her song “Veronika.” The song was inspired by a historical figure who was the first woman in her country to be accused of withcraft. The song comes with a very dramatic music video in which Raiven dances with nearly naked men and women, whose bodies writhe and bend amid water, darkness and fire. Raiven brings it home at the end with some big notes — punctuating all that drama.
🇦🇱 Albania: Besa Kokëdhima – “Zemrën n’dorë”
The grand final of Festivali i Këngës 62 took place on December 22. Besa Kokëdhima didn’t win the festival — the jury chose Mal Retkoceri instead. But she topped the televote for the ticket to Eurovision with her ballad “Zemrën n’dorë”.
Ahead of the final, she told our reporter Erdi that she poured all of her heart into the song — despite initially not wanting to send a ballad.
🇨🇿 Czechia: Aiko with “Pedestal”
Bright-based artist Aiko topped the week-long vote of ESCZ 2024 with her song “Pedestal,” an anthem of empowerment and self-love. Speaking to our reporter Youyou after the show, she said she wrote the song when she was angry — and when stuck in a relationship with someone who wasn’t reciprocating her love.
According to the Czech delegation it “emphasizes the determination to prioritize independence. It highlights the importance of putting oneself first in the face of adversity and any toxic relationships.” Get it, girl!
🇫🇷 France: Slimane with “Mon amour”
When it comes to song reveal, France was the first country out of the gate. In November it revealed its song and artist on the same day. And what a reveal it was! Slimane is among his country’s top pop stars, having sold out massive arenas and racked up billions of streams.
On the day of the reveal he told me that love dictates all he does — and provided the material for his entry “Mon amour.”
“Yes, it’s true. Love is my biggest source of inspiration in music. It drives my life and all my choices. It’s love — love for my daughter, love for my family, love for my friends, love for music. It’s universal love and since I started writing songs, I think I needed to input all this love into my songs.”

All of these are really good! I know it’s only the first six, but this is shaping up to be a really strong year at Eurovision, I’m really excited, especially with Ireland’s comeback!!
All of the six songs are at least a 6/10 for me. I could see myself voting for Aiko, Bambie Thug and possibly Raiven in May.

Such a shame what Iceland is doing this year, after so many years of legitimate effort and great music. If yet another song wins ESC for reasons other than being a good song/act, I see even more people losing interest in the contest. I assume RUV were not doing it to win but to make a statement, but it is harmful (regardless of the side one takes, ESC should not be a vehicle for making global political statements ).
Iceland aren’t doing anything. If the artist in question submits a song and the song is shortlisted (because let’s face it, the rest of the songs are hardly groundbreaking) then it’s well within their rights to put it forward. The issue people are having is that it’s a PALESTINIAN man wanting to share the plight of his people and they’re scared he might win that right to do it on an international stage. The EBU allowed Jamala & Kalush that platform (whether the songs were good or not), so why not allow someone else the same privilege? You can’t pick… Read more »
For me “a PALESTINIAN man wanting to share the plight of his people” wouldn’t be problematic IF he was singing for his country: Palestine. But in this case he will be singing for Iceland. That’s where the problem is. It feels like Iceland ran out of ideas on how the win the contest fair & square and is now resorting to using other people’s suffering for their own profit!
In my opinion Jamala winning was one of those rare occasions where the best singer & the best song actually won. It happens only once in a while at Eurovision. Kalush hadn’t the best song in 2022, but it was still a very good song & it was a nice change of flavour in a braindead contest that always favours i don’t know why swedish schlager. And that wasn’t aimed at you Milan….I totally agree with what you said regarding the ESC shouldn’t be a place for politics. I just wanted to share another view regarding the inconsistency of the EBU and how they pick and choose who can and can’t use politics in their song.
That’s true. But somebody here said that this artist was unduly promoted by RUV before other contestants (I don’t know if that’s true but if it is, then Iceland *is* doing something and it’s not a fair competition. Again, it may not be true, I didn’t fact-check.).
Frankly, I’m sorry, but I’m not vibing with any of the selected songs just yet. At the moment, France is the least bad one to me, personally.

“Fighter” is really a nice song and I like the french flair in it, but the staging and the outfit don´t fit.

My Top 3, as of now, Slovenia, Luxembourg and France. Which is funny, because I come from two years of having a full non-English Top 3 and an almost full non-English Top 5 and we might go that route yet again.
Also, my Spotify did a funny thing and played Fighter and immediately after played both Waterloo and Euphoria back to back. Is Spotify prophetising something?

I don’t think any of these 6 songs can win, but they’re all quite nice.
From what we’ve heard so far in the NFs, I think the countries that could win Eurovision are Ukraine with « Teresa & Maria », and Norway with « Ulveham ». Germany could also get a top5 résultat with Ryk’s « Oh boy ». Hope these countries choose well.
Can’t wait to hear the songs from UK, Italy and the Netherlands!

Ukraine is strong contender for win (my favourite so far , and for me much better then song from Ukraine 2022,2023). In case of their win, more deserve than 2022 ,2016. For me Ulveham is not song for TOP 5 even TOP 10. I think best result for Norway can bring them country ballad duo.
Ireland is like a piece of artwork the performance of i just keep going back to rewatch. Can’t wait to see how this transfers to the big stage

My favourites for now are Luxembourg and Slovenia!
I am happy with this season’s start. Apart from Czechia, I like all of the entries. I am yet to find *my top 5 song* (I think so), but there are some really good choices here. Slovenia is very mystical and the lyrics are great. Luxembourg has a great performance and a punchy girlbop chanson. France has a wonderful ballad sung by a great vocalist. Ireland has a creative and fun song which takes a risk. Albania has a memorable chorus sung by a good singer.

The annual vicious job has started, let’s go every single year the same comedy, so predictable now it’s pitiful, but don’t you see that every year this austrian have issues and hates and ignores always the same countries without real reasons only to express his disrespect towards these countries so let this hateful guy alone in his sad world, it’s better.

Outside mainstream radio there is a lot going on: country is huge – Garth Brooks is a good to rural folk. Mod fusion trad, folk and classic rock are the standards. Meanwhile the internet is exposing a younger generation to different music and finding new waves to express them. Ireland did so bad because most professional songwriter won’t touch with a bargepole! My favourite is by far Slimane and then Tali. But since I think I know esc , I think Ireland stands out more. Staging can be very good and I think Bambie is totally invested in her work and has a vision. Let’s see. Seems Sweden’s 7th victory triggered them

I was brought up a Catholic Christian and am half Irish and would like to put Bambie Thug up for Sainthood!
Luxembourg, Ireland and Czechia are best for me so far, don’t know why people are thinking it’s a weak year I think it’s pretty open so far and all strong in my opinion.
Bambie*, Concerning how one of the largest Eurovision fan pages have misspelled our entrant on an official article and when giving the Irish Eurosong international results pronounced both go tobann and Ailsha incorrectly?? Surely a dedicated Eurovision fan page can get these basics correct??

Probably Ireland since they have chosen their best song and staging for two decades and their song is a real revolutionary tale! It also overshadows Raiven quite a bit. Being a fan of the Slovenian singer, I was disappointed that her song didn’t sound as magical as i wanted it to be. Bambie Thug ticks a lot of the boxes Raiven failed to do with her actual entry as opposed to some of her NF songs, particularly ‘Kaos’ which should have been the entry that went to Eurovision for her. If only Loreen had scaled back her stageshow last year she still would have won. It was easily one of the strongest songs that year. I hated Euphoria though. It was a steaming pile of crap that should never have been won. Made me think the girl couldn’t sing for years after. If Eurovision is to survive it has to go back to basics and focus more on song composition, arrangement and delivery. Less wokery, pyrotechnics and focus on fostering new music, stylistically experiment music is the only way to go.
All weak expect of Albania so far. If thing don’t change fast, we are in for another 2018 slog.

Slovenia is the one I voted for. The song is great. Comparing it to Raiven’s previous efforts in EMA, I liked “Zažarim” a lot more, but still this is very well done. I see the potential, the visuals are strong and distinct and that gives me the impression that there’s a clear vision of what they could do with this in Malmo. Eh, I don’t really know. I don’t really have strong feelings towards any of them so far but ultimately, I chose Luxembourg of what we’ve been given so far. It’s the only one I’d consider downloading onto my phone so far anyway. So far they all seem pretty mid to me? I can imagine the better stuff is yet to come.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but… I think Ireland? I’m usually more of a fan of entries like Slovenia, but there’s something about Ireland I can’t look away from. It reminds me a little bit of Emilie Autumn. Feels like Bambie Thug has a big vision I can imagine on the Eurovision stage.

Also Raiven normally sends ‘witch’ type songs but Doosmday Blue is a lot better attempt at this than Raiven’s.
For me it’s Slovenia Raiven. She has stage presence, a great artistic package, opera vocals and mystery. It’s a good all round formula for a great deal of success
