Część Polska! Luna will represent Poland this year in Malmö with her song “The Tower”. The 24-year-old artist and yoga teacher — real name Aleksandra Katarzyna Wielgomas — is all about cosmic feels and unlocking the power of the universe to grow, learn and heal. In fact, she adopted the stage name Luna to honour her cosmic alter ego, who is full of secrets and magic.

She’s a mystery wrapped in an enigma. But “The Tower” lyrics are a bit more straightforward. As she told our Cinan in Stockholm in March, her words are a reminder that we can all tap into our inner hero. “The song is about your inner power, your inner strength,” she says. “And also, it’s about bravery. Bravery to live in your own way, just to live as yourself, as you want to be.”

Poland at Eurovision 2024: Luna with “The Tower”

First things first: Luna takes her stage persona very seriously. She channels a spirituality and other-worldliness you’d expect from a bohemian artist, whose stage name derives from the Latin word for moon.

“I am coming straight from the moon, and I want to give you a lot of light and a lot of power and a lot of magical moments. I am a creature that comes straight from the moon to give you some beautiful melodies.”

A talented musician from a young age, Luna can play the violin and the piano. She was previously a singer and dancer in a folk band, and has performed is musical theatre. Our girl is stage ready.

A rising star on the alternative music scene, Luna is also a proud ally of the LGBT community. During the opening ceremony of the PrePartyES in Madrid last week, she marched out with both the Polish flag and the Pride flag dangling from her arms.

What do the lyrics of “The Tower” mean?

No, Luna isn’t singing about grout, brick supplies or leaning constructions in Pisa. She’s singing about spiritual architecture — the ways in which we can all build our own lives.

As she told us: “Just create your own rules in the world, your own terms and build your own tower – the one that leads to your destiny, something that is great for your life and for your happiness. I hope that the song has this positive, uplifting meaning that can inspire all of us.”

She recognises that we all encounter moments of despair, where hope seems scant. She lays that out in the opening verse.

Looking for a miracle
Waiting for a sun to catch me
I’ve gotta find a way back home
Alone alone alone
Hoping for a star to fall
Something I can make a wish on
Could it be that I’m the fool
But aren’t we all we all we all

But the answer lies within you. In the music video we see her using her mind to advance in a chess game. And you better believe she can call checkmate.

“I really wanted to create a music video that has a story, that tells a story about discovering your inner power, that your capable of everything, that you are the leader of your life,” she says. “That’s why in the music video I play chess. This game shows metaphorically how every relationship in our life is like a game. I don’t know how to play but I create my own rules in my life.”

The different stages of the music video relate to different stages of her life. Take careful note of the aging woman — we remain masters of our own destiny no matter our age.

“I was able to play this part with different actors that represented a different theme of my life. I play with guy who looks similar to me, so this could be my brother or my soul mate. I play with my friend, I play with a lover, somebody I used to love or still love. And in the end, I play with future me, she represented me in the future. It was the most amazing moment in this video because I had the chance to sit in front of myself from the future, it was so moving and I will remember it for the rest of my life. The audience can realise that, if you want to live your own way, you have to win with yourself, you need to take this battle with yourself and fight for that. It’s a blessing and a curse.”

By the time she reaches the chorus, Luna can celebrate her achievement. She’s built The Tower — her lookout point, her summit — and can reflect on the struggle with pride rather than fear.

Broken bodies
Scattered through my history
Lonely hours
Leading to my destiny
I’m the one who built the tower

The song was made in the UK in collaboration with Fyfe and Max Cooke, specifically for the Eurovision Song Contest. Fyfe has previously written for Belgian singer Alice On The Roof.

“The Tower” lyrics — Luna (Poland Eurovision 2024)

Looking for a miracle
Waiting for a sun to catch me

Alone alone alone
Hoping for a star to fall

But aren’t we all we all we all

Broken bodies
Scattered through my history
Lonely hours
Leading to my destiny
I’m the one who built the tower
I’m the one who holds the power
So come on
Rise up shout it louder
I’m the one who built the tower

Shining in a tiger’s eyes
Only I can find my future
Reading in between the lines
I draw my own my own my own
Running down the waterfall
Always tried to chase the rainbow
Never found a pot of gold
Below below below

Broken bodies
Scattered through my history
Lonely hours
Leading to my destiny
I’m the one who built the tower
I’m the one who holds the power
So come on
Rise up shout it louder
I’m the one who built the tower
I’m the one who built the…
I’m the one who built the…
I’m the one who built the tower
I’m the one who built the…
I’m the one who built the…
I’m the one who built the tower

Broken bodies

One vocal approach that rarely works for me in any sort of song is the one Ellie Goulding-esque tone that Luna uses, where she offers slightly drawn out babyspeak delivered in the sickly, honeyed tones that could be found in a successful cult leader. Her pronunciation makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly what the lyrics are but, luckily, most of the time, Luna is simply building towers and holding power. She’ll be happy to repeat it over and over for you. Live performances have not been convincing, never really graduating from mumbling to unreceptive and disinterested audiences. The actual production… Read more »

I really like Poland’s song this year, I’m not sure why it’s placed so low for many people. I guess it does come across as a bit generic and is downstaged by other songs that stand out. but Luna has exceptional vocal abilities and uses them over the other options of using auto tuning and looping. I think she is a dark horse and depending on her staging she could end up doing very well for Poland. I would love to see a more established artist represent Poland that is well known in Europe and the uk and Australia like… Read more »

Luna has very nice tracks in her discography, that would’ve worked great for Eurovision. Unfortunately Tower is not one of them.

I’m grateful to the songwriters for writing an uplifting message of self-empowerment, allowing us to break free from the chains of history. I really like how uplifting this song is, even if the presentation of it might come across as OTT (but obviously it’s not on Ireland’s level of OTT this year).

Alternatively, another way these lyrics can be interpreted is as a subtle hint that perhaps building a great tower in Poland might be a good idea right now.

Well it sure ain’t memorable but I still enjoy this song and I find Luna very sweet. I don’t think she will survive the bloodbath of the first half of SF1 but I wouldn’t complain if she does.

And at the moment I write these words, I realize that Wiwibloggs is now very well known and maybe the artists themselves come and read the comments. I feel bad for saying bad things 😐 It’s decided, I will try to stop and write comments only if I have something nice to say about the artists. I will try…

i personally like this song, it is very catchy, easy listening good that Blanka stays true to what she had said, and that she wished Luna the very best of luck and given her some advice how to handle criticism the right way i don’t think it is another scenario like last year for them, also i think going internal this time around helped too, should’ve also gone internal last year for Blanka tbh i think family wealth once again played a role here, wouldn’t be too surprised either if Luna’s family is richer than Blanka’s (tbh her family owns… Read more »
