Scroll down for 10 Facts about Silvester Belt

1. Where it all began

Silvester Belt (Silvestras Beltė) is 26 years old, having been born in Kaunas, Lithuania on November 26 1997.

2. Silvester tried to go to Junior Eurovision before

Eurovision 2024 isn’t Silvester’s first Eurovision encounter. At 12 years old he first got experience taking part in Nacionalinė Vaikų Eurovizijos atranka 2010, where he successfully qualified from the semi final. Young Silvester was the final contestant to grace the stage with his song ‘Pi-Pa-Po’ which placed 8th!

3. He studied music in The U.K.

As a trend including icons such as Monika Liu and Monika Linkytė, Silvester has lived and studied in London, UK. He attended Westminster University and graduated in music performance back in 2017, right before he was about to enter Lithuanian TV.

4. A king of reality TV

He’s experienced in talent shows. In 2017 he auditioned for and then won the Lithuanian reality competition show ‘I Am a Superhit’ (Aš – superhitas). The following year he took part in Lithuanian version of X Factor. He qualified through to the live shows where he was eliminated in week four few shows before the final.

5. He’s got amazing friends.

He has explained to an interview to Eurodiena.lt how he met Lithuanian singer Jessica Shy. The songstress has recently collected ground-breaking 6 M.A.M.A (Music Association Awards) circle statues – only now Silvester’s ‘Luktelk’ has offered some competition to Jessica’s most recent releases. Another amazing long time friend of Silvester is Nombeko Augustė, who’s been successfully releasing music in Lithuania and has most recently hosted 6 Eurovizija.LT 2024 shows! Nombeko has been featured in ‘Tyliai Paluždėk’, which became one of the most successful 2023 song releases in Lithuania.

6. Silvester was inspired by U.K. entrant Olly Alexander

Silvester has been quite open about his musical influences and as to any other aspiring artist meeting performing on the same stage means a great deal! This year he says he is super excited to meet this year’s UK entry Olly Alexander, as he was influenced by his music.

7. Dream collaborations

As Silvester is a huge fan of techno, and that’s quite visible with ‘Luktelk’. However, speaking of Silvester’s all time music inspirations, besides Olly he’d love to collaborate with Elderbrook, Joji or Daniel Caesar, while the biggest musical inspiration is certainly Troye Sivan.

8. Proud to bring Lithuanian to Eurovision

He’s proudly singing in Lithuanian. He’s expressed that he’s excited to show a different side of Lithuania, which is not so grey or cold by simply singing in Lithuanian. ‘Luktelk’ was written so it could be easily memorized by listeners not speaking Lithuanian. According to Silvester: ‘’it was to have as many sounds resembling other words in different languages.”

9. Silvester is a history maker for Lithuania at Eurovision

He’s the first openly LGBTQ+ artist to represent Lithuania. Silvester hasn’t been afraid to be outspoken about people’s curiosity towards his bisexuality, about which he’s firstly spoke to publications back in 2017, when he took part in ‘I Am a Superhit’ TV show. He’s never been afraid to express himself and as a firm advocate against bullying, especially experiencing it first-hand after Junior Eurovision entry, he’s one of the new generation Lithuanian artists who’s not been afraid speaking out about his sexuality and stating that it’s one of the least important features about him.

10. Silvester has to go gluten free

Silvester can’t eat gluten sadly, so no Kibinai for him (a famous Lithuanian pastry filled with meat, mushrooms, vegetables or other ingredients)! And no Šakotis (tree cake) at Christmas either!

How is it possible that he graduated in 2017 if he’s 26-years-old? So he graduated when he was 19? So he went to uni when he was 16? Makes no sense.

lithuania is one of my soft spot underdog countries and I really hope they do really well this year, considering lithuania usually struggles in a competing ending in four. I think a victory for Lithuania is on the horizon, maybe not this year, but wouldn’t be cool if they actually scrape into the top five? But whatever happens in the end, has nothing to be ashamed about. good luck, Silvester and make your country proud.

Well, his body literally can’t digest gluten so he has no choice but to have a gluten-free diet.
