Many of you out there tend to agree with us at wiwibloggs that this year’s Melodifestivalen field is atrocious. Watching Sean Banan qualify directly for the final last Saturday with his amateur song was pure torture.

Well apparently the Swedes are masochistic because SVT has revealed that Saturday’s second semi-final enjoyed the highest number of viewers for a semi-final in the competition’s history. A full 3.66 million Swedes watched the programme, a slight increase from the previous week’s 3.56 million. To put things into perspective, this means that a full 39% of the Swedish population stayed at home on Saturday to watch. That includes babies, children, and people who don’t own TVs. So if we got rid of them this would represent a huge share of the population actually watching the telly.

We just hope the quality of this year’s entries will improve in the second half of the competition. William and Vebooboo will not travel to Stockholm for second-rate performances, oh no we will not!

Honestly 3 out of the 4 songs that have gotten through so far are fine. I think maybe we’re comparing to last years winner too much here hoping for excellence. David Lingreen is a good song, just needs to work on vocals a bit more. Heartbreak Hotel is really growing on me, and is an interesting and different song. Only the dead fish is a good song, not really Eurovision but its nice to hear different once again. I dont know what on earth that 4th one was, or how it made it higher than 8th place, but my god… Read more »

I’m all about Amanda Fondell, Robin Stjënberg & Ulrik Munther… they’re my only hope for Sverige

Perhaps all those extra viewers just need more practice ;p

Still preferring “Burning Flags” so far, even though they have to get through 2nd chance first. It has a lot of potential given some professional direction and refinement.

Personally, I’m waiting for Ulrik Munther to win. So far the only finalist I really like is Louise Hoffsten.

But my god- isn’t that Anton guy hot or what?? And his song is cool as well. Cannot understand why he didn’t make the final. (And don’t give me “he doesn’t sing” crap – with those looks and moves he can mime as much as he wants!
