Turkey may not be our favorite country at the moment—why did you have to leave Eurovision?!—but we can definitely agree that something keeps us glued to the computer or cell phone screens whenever Turkish music is in the news. This time the news is about Meltem Cumbul, the hostess of Eurovision 2004.

Anyway, Meltem stars in fourth season of Magnificent Century, the wildly popular Turkish TV series (that recently inspired Severina to make  new dance number). Meltem plays Suleiman’s sister Fatma. Her goal, as with every other Suleiman’s sister, is to ruin the life of his wife Hurrem.

Forty-four-year-old Meltem has been keeping busy since Eurovision with appearance after appearance after appearance. Chief among them are the movie “Head-On”, which in 2004 won the Golden Bear for the best movie; the television series “Yilan Hikayesi”; and the musicals  “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” and “Taming Og the Shrew.” In her colorful career she has also won many awards at international festivals including those in Palm Springs, Queens, Ankara and Antalya. Meltem is also an acting teacher at the State University of ‘Mimar Sinan’. That gurl is busy as a bee!

Did you like her as host in 2004? Can she beat Hurrem and have Severina singing about Fatma instead?

OMG this show is huge in Romania. I haven’t watched any episode though, so I missed the Eurovision connection.

Me gusto como anfitriona, lo que no me gusta de la tv turka es el querer separarse de esc y copiar el concepto del concurso, esc solo hay uno, nada mas
