Eurovision performers have a tendency to give us goosebumps, but it doesn’t always happen during their actual performance. Postcards—the 50-second clips that introduce each act, and give stagehands the opportunity to clear the stage—offer some of the most stirring moments of every contest. Back on May 13 we asked all y’all to relive this year’s contest and to vote for your favourite clip. After counting a total of 6,676 votes, we can now reveal that Ukraine’s Mariya Yaremchuk has won the day!
Ukraine’s Eurovision 2014 postcard
Mariya had to consider the tensions at home when filming her postcard. Aware of the deaths and violence in Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, the 21-year-old starlet opted to dress in black. But there’s still plenty of colour here—and it’s dripping with patriotism. She attaches yellow sticky notes to a train platform. When the blue train rolls in, she smiles and snaps. It’s creative. It’s tasteful. It’s pure Mariya!
The UK’s Eurovision 2014 postcard
Molly Smitten-Downes is a woman of many talents. Among those talents is directing oversized red buses into position to film her postcard! When the double deckers put on their brakes, British Eurofans in blue ponchos run into the scene. Molly mounts a crane to snap the lovely Union Jack from high in the sky. British transport meets British weather and Molly captures it all. Lovely!
Israel’s Eurovision 2014 postcard
Israel’s Mei Finegold may not have made the final, but she rose high in our ranking of Eurovision postcards! The Israeli flag isn’t the easiest to recreate, but Mei manages to make it work. She uses blue poles and assorted bendies to create the flag’s stripes and Star of David—all against a white landscape. Gorgeous!

I’m from the uk and I adored our postcard because it was SO BRITISH!! Red buses and rain ponchos, what could be more related to our country?!
Maybe I’m biased! I voted Switzerland in this, since I shouldn’t really vote for my own country’s! I adored Sebalter’s, it must have taken so long! I think Greece’s was the worst.
I would say my favorite post card was by far the United Kingdom. The sheer size was amazing. Albania had extreme dedication. Macedonia probably took a long time, I would imagine the neighbors being annoyed at the constant violin sounds. Romania was creative. I would say Romania and Ukraine had the most risky (one could have blown up and the other was peering her head off the platform). I think France’s postcard might have been faked. I actually liked Denmark’s. To get the angling correct was probably really hard. Azerbaijan used time lapse photography which would have taken a lot… Read more »
Ukraine was #6 in our countdown of the top 10 best postcards…if you wanna see it, have a look here 🙂

Ukraine’s was one of the silliest. Romania, Azerbaijan, Iceland, Portugal and Albania had some of the best ones.
I never knew it took Mariya 600 post its to make the yellow part of the Ukrainian flag. Thanks for telling me Marty Whelan (Irish commentator).
Seriously Ukraine?
You got to be kidding me?
Wiwibloggs, i love your site, it’s my favourite i freakin’ love it.
But when it comes to the polls, almost all of the end results are just a failure.
Macedonia was the most creative and portugal was total
Ukraine’s postcard was soooo boring.
My favorite ones are UK, Finland, Switzerland, FYROM, Albania, Portugal and Belarus.
Nice top 3 😀
Mariya we are praying for Ukraine <3
Mariya Yaremchuk almost looks like Sasha Grey
Macedonia, Romania, Azerbaijan, Albania (talk about dedication), and France all had really interesting post cards and were my favourites. Overall, I think DR did a great job coming up with the post card theme this year. I didn’t think they could beat SVT last year due to how they seemed like the artists were just living their real lives and that was really cool, but somehow DR did 😛
According to YouTube… Poland had the best postcard!
Easpag: Suzy’s been committed ? All that shaking must have gone to her head.
I think the reason Ukraine won was because it came right at the start. We were so excited about what was to come
Macedonia, UK and Portugal had the best Postcards, hands down. Macedonia’s was beautiful and crafty, the sheer size and effort of the UK’s was amazing, and the committal of Suzy was admirable.
I liked Conchita’s the most!!!
ukraine, honestly, had one of the most boring ones
but israels, uks, belarus and switzerland had the most interesting ones
Definitely Armenia had the best one. It was really creative and an original idea to create such a postcard. He also had the flag on his chest if you remember 😉
Yes! Ukraine, Uk and Greece were my favorite postcards so I’m very pleased with this! 😀
sorry but no Ukraine’s postcard wasn’t the best, i think it was Portugal, Switzerland, Israel, Macedonia, UK, France, Romania and Georgia
