Kurt Calleja may have sung “This is the Night” at Eurovision 2012—but he’s had plenty of good nights since then. In fact, Kurt is now busy shooting the music video for “Vertigo”, the second single from his album “Love on Mars”. A team at WE Media — the same folks behind the music videos for “Coming Home” and “Tomorrow” — will help bring Kurt’s vision to life.
“Vertigo” was also the name of Malta’s entry in 2007, but we can assure you that this single is not a cover version. In fact, the videos go in totally opposite directions. In the 2007 video for “Vertigo” we saw rain and storms. This time you can expect sunshine and bronzer, as the locations include famous Maltese beaches and a typical Maltese summer boat party.
As Kurt himself said on his Facebook Page: “We wanted to showcase the beauty of a Maltese Summer.” There is also a hint of Maltese beauty, as Miss Malta 2014 co-stars in the video. It looks like they get along:
Strength to strength
Let’s take you back a few years to Azerbaijan. There you were introduced to the budding Maltese singer, who, together with his band, managed to secure a place for Malta in the Final for the first time since Chiara in 2009.
“This is the Night” managed to seal seventh place in Semi Final 2 at the Baku Crystal Hall, turning Kurt into a hero in Malta. Eurovision is a big deal on our tiny Mediterranean Island.
Fresh from his success in Baku, Kurt and his team started working on his debut album ‘Love on Mars’, which was released during a charity concert.
After that, Kurt made the rounds on local TV stations and in concerts both locally and abroad. He recently attended the Lithuanian Independence Reformation Day as a special guest, whilst on a three-week tour in the same country.
