Unlike some of my colleagues, who don’t seem to think that MILKI’s song “Accent” is decent, I beg to differ. A lot.
First of all, I’m the first to admit that that it’s clearly a re-hash of other more or less successful Eurovision songs. Nevertheless, the song is instantly catchy and memorable, just as “Fairytale” was five years ago. Whether we like it or not, I’m afraid we’ll all be humming “my la, la, la, la, my accent is the same” quite a few times between now and May. That is, if “Accent” wins the NF, which I hope it does. By the way, I also love the Belarussian parts, which I think would go down well with Eurovision audiences, who ate the “Slavic Girls” right up.
I was curious to see a hit-or-miss live performance. Judging solely on the live audition on Thursday, I’m willing to bet on a hit. Here’s that performance, complete with cheesy dance moves but also pretty decent vocals, and I’m sure that everything will sound and look a lot better by the National Final on Boxing Day, December 26:
Last but not least, the English lyrics are not only easy to remember (the “la, la, la” parts will certainly help), but they also promote a positive message. Despite today’s globalizing and migratory trends, one must not shed their national identity. Call it nationalistic or patriotic, but if we support Ukraine, why shouldn’t we support Belarus as well? As for the Belarussian lyrics, they’re hilar! Enjoy!
Accent lyrics — MILKI (Belarus EuroFest 2015)
My accent is the same!
You are the love of my life,
you know I’m always by your side
(By your side)
You have a choice, baby;
I can be yours ‘til the end of time
(End of time).
But if you wanna be with me,
there’s one thing you need to know
(You need to know)
I will do anything you want,
but you will never change my soul.
Because my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
La-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
My accent is the same!
[Belarussian lyrics] My darling, tell me,But tell me the truth,
What were you doing yesterday?
With whom were you walking all night long?
I began to follow him
To catch him with his mistress,
It turned out – he is working
To feed my relatives.
Because my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
La-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
Girls were washing towels,
Discussing who is thinner,
And whose boyfriend is the cutest,
I’ll tell you this, girls,
That our men are fine fellows,
The best ones in this world
Belarusian guys.
Come sing my song
because my
Come sing my song
because my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
La-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
My la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
La-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my la-la-la-la
my accent is the same!
My accent is the same!
My accent is the same!
The song was written by Alexander Rybak and produced by Amir Aly at YLA Studios. The 5 members of MILKI (“The Cuties” in Belarussian) are: Tatsiana Stakhouskaya, Marina Putnikova, Taya Serikova, Victoria Nazarko, and Anna Rai.
What do you think? Should MILKI take the (cheese)cake at Belarus’ National Final or are you lactose-intolerant?
@eurovision-berlin, I’m sorry, but it’s not Russian language and it has nothing to do with Russian. Belarusians have their own language, by the way.
I tend to agree with those who say that “Cheesecake” was better. I wouldn’t vote for this “Accent”.
Song ist ok. I like that they finally sing in their Russian language.
Quite a good song. Catchy and simple means easy to remember….and easy on the eye!
People who don’t like ESC will point to trashy songs like this & say “See, the songs are crap!” In this case there is no defence, Accent is crap.
Seeing five dizzy bimbos singing light weight rubbish like this is not what I want to see on the ESC stage.
Brrrr, crap, let them bake cookies or cheescake, please, anything but singing!
And I donlt like the Belarussian propaganda in the lyrics.
I either REALLY hate it or REALLY like it and I have no idea which. People who are saying younger Babushkis, you are spot on.
Not that amused about this one so far. It is fun and catchy, yes, so I wouldn’t mind if it wins… but at this point I’m hoping the rest of the belarusian entries to be better, stronger and more of my liking.
I was hoping for a Sokal-like entry from Belarus. But if this ends up winning its fun and catchy.
They have to win
I like it actually. It isn’t Fairytale-material but it’s a nice song nevertheless. And very catchy xD
The sad truth is that “Cheesecake” was better.
I knew I wasn’t the only one who thought that this is basically Party For Everybody sung by a younger generation. Belarus, send this to the Eurovision next year! 😀
this is like the younger belarusian answer to Russia’s Party for Everybody from 2012.
I’ll wait until they select the finalists to figure this one out…
