Conchita Wurst is your favourite to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna. Last August we named our Top 10 potential Eurovision hosts for the 60th annual Eurovision Song Contest next year in Austria, and asked you guys to vote for who has the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to do the best job. We received more than 3,000 votes, and you guys have decided decisively in favour of Miss Conchita Wurst, awarding her more than 50% of all votes. We totally approve.
The best of the rest:
Conchita won by a significant margin with almost 1,200 votes between her and runner up runner-up is Andi Knoll.
The 42-year old ORF commentator earned 378 votes in our poll.
Besides being the Austrian commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest since the 1999 edition in Jerusalem, he is also a presenter and hosted the 2002 Austrian national final!
In 3rd place, and only 33 votes behind Andi, is Kati Bellowitsch.
The official Austrian spokesperson since 2011, Bellowitsch has built up a strong following among Eurovision fans and this year sported a beard during the voting in support of winner Conchita Wurst.
The only other candidate of significant note is experienced TV host Mirjam Weichselbraun with 309 votes.
Though she trailed the Top 3 by 36 votes, she’s significantly ahead of the other members of the Top 10, none of whom could muster even 100 votes.
Weichselbraun is one of the most experienced potential hosts in the field, with previous credits including Life Ball, Romy Awards, Wiener Opernball and Dancing Stars. We bet she won’t be wooden on stage though: homegirl has appeared on stage and screen. We’ve got Petra Mede feels, y’all.
Doris Golpashin, Alfons Haider, Robert Kratky, Andreas Gabalier, Alice Tumler and Arabella Kiesbauer may have fans but they aren’t in the same league as the Top 4. They earned between 1% to 3% of the vote.
Full Poll Results:
Conchita Wurst 1559 52%
Andi Knoll 378 13%
Kati Bellowitsch 345 12%
Mirjam Weichselbraun 309 10%
Arabella Kiesbauer 91 3%
Alice Tumler 60 2%
Andreas Gabalier 55 2%
Robert Kratky 55 2%
Alfons Haider 45 2%
Doris Golpashin 35 1%
Does Austria have some more talent?
When you look closely at the results you’ll see that they don’t add up to 100%. That’s because our readerss suggested a huge range of ideas for hosts and co-hosts in addition to those we listed in our poll. Christoph Waltz, Natalia Kelly, Stermann & Grissemann, Nadine Beiler and Arnold Schwarzenegger were all frequently named as Austrians our readers would like to see host Europe’s favourite TV show.
Besides Natalia Kelly and Nadine Beiler, Eurovision stars Aram MP3, Helena Paparizou, Lukas Plochl of Trackshittaz, Udo Jurgens and Verka Serduchka all got mentions.
Also some of you think it would be great to go big and ask worldwide stars like Lana del Rey, Mariah Carey and Paris Hilton to host. We can only dream y’all!.
One of you wished for Falco, an Austrian singer from the previous century. Sadly we have to tell this person Falco died back in 1998.
Would y’all love Conchita to host or do you want some professional TV-hosting talent on stage in Vienna? Comment below!
I want Andi Knoll and Christoph Waltz to host ESC 2015. How cool would it be to have the next James Bond host Eurovision with ORF’s commentator for ESC? It would be unforgettable.
Imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger hosting ESC 2015?
Lanti – I’ve seen the interview and hope that she gets her wish.
She already said she doesn’t want to be the main host in an interview on the German Eurovision site, and that she would prefer to host the green room instead.
I love Conchita, but she’s too nice; they need someone like Petra Mede who feels comfortable letting nothing be safe. CW’s talents would be best served in the green room where that’s not as necessary.
After a whole year of focus on me/nothing matters but me-post-Eurovision-win path … hosting Eurovision comes next .. then what? Keeping Up With The Wurst? For how many seasons? Spin off included? Wurst takes Berlin? Wurst takes Paris? Etc …
I still see no music focusing moments happening … and I remind you all … Conchita won a music competition … but at this stage who cares, right?
I think many of the voters voted for Conchita because she’s a familiar face, which is understandable, people will unlikely vote for someone they don’t know… and I personally don’t know any of the other options 😛 I really wouldn’t mind either way, I love Conchita, but if she doesn’t host I wouldn’t be upset either, all I want is a host that can do a proper job, be funny without trying, act natural and be likeable. In the latest years just a handful of hosts have achieved that…. the rest just made me want to mute the TV while… Read more »
Really, why EBU does not ask for a international start for host the 60th edition? Maybe Celine Dion or a young one like Lana del Rey?
I wouldn’t mind Conchita at all :3
no hard feelings but NO to Conchita presenting the show, actual professional presenters are far better choice.
I don’t think it should be Conchita, because there is no great experience of presentation. You need experience to do a job like that.
I hate Conchita to DEATH!
I came here for three (3) reasons:
A) I’m very upset that Natália Kelly (2013) won’t be in Austria’s national selection again. At least she could try hosting the actual Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna 🙂
2) If I had a beard like Conchita, I would KILL myself.
D) As long as Conchita doesn’t host Eurovision in Vienna, and that Natália Kelly will be able to host, all Natálians (including me) will have their fingers crossed for surprises 😀
Conchita will be a worse choice! Because Austria have better presenters! I like Conchita but don’t like her as a presenter! Hope she don’t present the show!
I think if the poll was today the poll results should be another!
As long as it’s NOT Conchita Wurst, whatever they choose is fine by me!
