Genealogy — Armenia’s Eurovision 2015 supergroup — has one of the most compelling backstories of this year’s contest. Six artists from five continents all connected by their common Armenian ancestry. Well today it’s artists — Essaï, Inga, Mary-Jean, Stephanie, Tamar and Vahe — share something else: high-fashion photos from photographer Ruben Martirosyan!
The group is building a bridge across time and connecting the Armenia of their parents and grandparents with the Armenia of today — one which is scattered around the world through its Diaspora. So Martirosyan shot the group at the Saint Gevorg Monastery of Mughni the home of the unique photo shoot. The ancient setting makes us want to go sightseeing in Armenia! His photos are shot in a way that cleverly plays on their song title “Face the Shadow.”
Stylist Armen Galyan opted for simple cuts that emphasize the shoulders. All you fashionistas will recognize that trend from the runways of New York, Paris, and Milan. “We combined Armenian and European fashion trends mixing the contemporary and the traditional,” Galyan says. “We have tried to create modern characters that are merged with Armenian roots at the same time. This topic is very popular now.”

I like it. most years I like Azerbaijan’s sons better than Armenia’s. this year is not the same. “Face the shadow” is far better than Hour of the Wolf.
azerbaijan is one of my favorites in eurovision but this year it dissapointed me. Azerbaijanis you can do better than Hour of the Wulf.

Live performance matters only from now.
With the right performance, clothes, great singing, they can get into the top 10 in the final. With a bad live performance they have a chanche to stay in the semi final.

I really like Inga’s voice in the song, but the song is not that catchy. The voices don’t match and it feels like the song was made in the last moment. It will definitely qualify the semi-final as it holds a political message and it will get the immigrant votes from all over Europe. But I’m not sure if it’ll do well in the final. Btw, I’m glad they changed the song title and made it sound less political.

Armenia’s song this year is not a commercial song, but by no means it’s a bad song. It’s actually pretty decent entry and absolutely deserves to be in the final.
@Noah – And what would the PR stunt here be? Taking a picture by an ancient monastery or creating a creative image that parallels their song? The truth is, ever since 2009, I feel like Armenia has been the victim of this contest. If the violations committed by Azerbaijan towards Armenia were done to any other country, Azerbaijan would have been banned for 3-5 years.
If only these PR stunts from Armenia would stop, that would be great!

I think it’s quite ludicrous to say it’s the worst song of the year. It’s definitely not great, but it has some really good parts to it and it’s definitely better than at least 10 or so songs.
Having said that, it’s one of only 3 songs in Semi Final 1 that I don’t particularly like (along with Greece and Finland) and tbh I’d rather see better songs get through than seeing my country through, so I’m a little conflicted on that front but I don’t particularly care if they don’t get through.

These photos are stunning! I think Inga looks specially good, more because of the contrast between her more traditional look in 2009 with the more modern one of this year.
I love the whole concept behind Genealogy, the creation of the group and the background of their members… unfortunately their song, which at the end of the day is the most important part of their participation in ESC is what doesn’t impress me.
